African American walking in the neighborhood
Posted by: Michael Z ()
Date: May 05, 2013 05:48PM

The subject taught your attention? Well I am African American and I was walking in my neighborhood. I am dress nicely I have Jeans, and a Polo Shirt. This white guy in his mid 30s comes over and asked me he could help me with something? Why is he asking me, if he could help me with something? I am just taking a walk. I am 16 years old and I lived here since I was 5. My mom works as a Biology High School Teacher and my dad works for Pentagon. They have a combine income of $160,000 or so. Why did the guy think I was going to steal something asking me if I needed help with something? This happen in Burke neighborhood next to walmart.

There's a black man with a black cat
Livin' in a black neighborhood
He's got an interstate
Runnin' through his front yard
You know he thinks that he's got it so good

I dont think someone can determine what your parent's combined income as just by watching you walk down the street.

Why did you think it was important to point that out in this post?

Yeah, lol. If he was wearing a hoodie, he'd have a Kel Tec PF9 pressed against his temple.

Because it's one those nosy ass retired neighborhood watch type people that have nothing better to do.

It had nothing to do with you being dressed in nice jeans, and a Polo shirt. I'm sure a person wearing messy jeans and a ragged t-shirt would of been questioned also.

Just some annoying retired person with nothing better to do.

OP, get over yourself and tear up your race card. When I first moved into my neighborhood (primarily white, small amount of asian) I was driving around just looking at stuff. I stopped my car in the circle to check out a nice classic truck someone had parked out front of their house and a middle aged white woman doing some gardening in another yard yelled out to me "can I help you?" in an authoritative tone. She assumed I was up to no good because I was a stranger on the quiet street. That's all. I explained myself and she switched to welcome mode. You were approached because you weren't recognized, not because you're black.

Someone in Northern Virginia actually volunteered to be helpful? And your bitching about it? Um if someone in Northern Virginia actually volunteered to be helpful I would say that's a good thing and we are going in the right direction. Why try to turn into some negative thing about race?

Call the police! That's how it starts. One, two, etc.

Any nigger in the neighborhood is trouble. God forbid a nigger lives in your neighborhood. Move, leave your stuff, get as far away as you can.

The police should have a "nigger number" not 911. A number to call if you spot one.

You are absolutely right to be suspicious of that guy.

That said, you are 16, but demonstrate a 1st grader's grasp of grammar. This is utterly shameful.

The only correct and serious reply here.

I'm sure this won't be taken into consideration from the OP, since his type always plays the race card.

Maybe the problem is that you consider yourself African American opposed to just a regular ol' American.

I have been stopped twice for DWB = Driving While Black...no other apparent reason. Now they are stopping people for WWB = Walking While Black. The 13th and 14th Amendment are in effect and I intend to use them. That's why I carry my pockey U.S. Constitution everywhere I go...mandatory possession for black people in America today. The Civil War is over folks. Move on.

Negores are very violent and committ crime way out of proportion to other races. Stopping a negro to check him out is sensible and safe.

Typically when a nigger is seen walking down the street one can only assume they are up to no good.

Really? The kid wasn't checking out a stranger's car, he was just walking around the neighborhood. Which he has a right to do. My guess is that 'Can I help you?' In this case was equivalent to 'What are you doing in my neighborhood'?

On the other hand, a property that I own in a peaceful residential area has been broken into three separate times by three different black guys. I don't want to stereotype, but I can't help but be more vigilant. Unfortunately, kids like this suffer as a result of the actions of people who look like him. I don't know the answer.

You didn't say what happened next. Did you say "No, thank you," and he said "Oh, okay"? Or did you say "What business is it of yours?" and he said "I'm watching you"? Unless he was overtly hostile, why not just assume he spoke to you because he didn't recognize you as a neighbor? And when you say it's next to Walmart, I'll bet there have been some problems with strangers in the area. Race can matter, but it's not the only thing that matters.
