Washington Gas Pisses Me Off

They did this a couple of years back and it was really annoying and they are doing it to me again this year.

During the summer when demand is low, they find time to do an "Actual" meter reading every month. Now that demand is supposedly higher, they have, two months in a row now, done "estimated" readings. We all know that so far the winter has been VERY warm, but their estimated readings are showing consumption typical of a cold winter. Of course they are billing me based on these inflated estimates.

When they did this a couple of years ago, when they finally did an actual reading after a few months of estimated readings my account was so far credited that I didn't pay a gas bill all summer and fall. I know you can call them to get reading cards so you can mark meter readings down and mail it in but that's bullshit. It seems to be a short-term money grab, and the name on my account on their bill isn't subtitled "washington gas savings and loan." If they go estimated again this month I guess I'll do the card thing but this pisses me off.

must be what they did to me because my bill was absolutely outrageous for the past 2 months. I assumed it to be a result of bush's war on everyone who doesn't pray like him.

No. It's the fact that Bush doesn't care if gas companies make record profits by raping consumers. That's basically what he said. So much for the free market. Where's this price competition I've been hearing about? Can I switch from once gas provider to another for a cheaper price? No? Why not?

Actually you can switch to a competitor for natural gas service in Virginia.

But sheck your outrageous bill and see if the past two months have been "actual" readings or "estimated" readings.

I didn't check whether my reading was actual or estimated, but I did notice that although the consumption compared to the same period last year was down 40%, the total $$ are almost identical.

But if they overestimate your consumption, isn't it the case when you sort of "save by buying more" since the rates drop gradually with the higher rate, so in summer you pay a higher rate with smaller consumption?

I think what you are saying is what happened last time... I didn't need to pay a bill for six months sue to the overcharging. But just because they credit the amount doesn't make it right. I want to pay based on my real consumption, and don't want to get overcharged, in effect loaning them money interest-free for six months. Energy prices are high enough as it is... we don't need this kind of free loan money grab from our utility companies.

You can beat the math at the end of the day.
your only going to pay for the gas you use.
Is you cash flow that tight that you can't handel their poor estimates?

Automatically draws from my bank account. It's easier that way and I also get the paper bill in the mail and look it over.

As for the original topic, they always overestimate and then credit you if necessary. But if they undercharge and you stop paying your bill for whatever reason, they don't always get their money.
