Cuccinelli to McDonnell, "Your Transportation Bill Unconstitutional."
Posted by: Gerrymanderer ()
Date: March 23, 2013 10:39AM

Uh oh, looks like the Attorney General decided to give his legal opinion while the Governor still has the oppurtunity to amend or veto his own bill. Damn, Cuccinelli is one cut throat oppurtunist back stabbing politician lmao.

The ball is in your court Bob McDonnell. Your own Republican Attorney General says you sir are in violation of our Constitution.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/va-politics/cuccinelli-vas-medicaid-road-funding-bills-violate-constitution/2013/03/22/3c07b95a-9331-11e2-8ea1-956c94b6b5b9_story.html?hpid=z4

LoL quote from McDonnell's office: “Every bill passed by the General Assembly is reviewed by the attorney general, and we will consider that advice as we make a final determination on necessary amendments to the legislation,”

You can't make this stuff up. Oh don't mind the crazy wackadoodle Attorney General's comments on infringement of our Constitution lol. We'll consider what he says which basically means he can go fuck himself.

WTF, you don't want to comment on Republicans back stabbing each other for immediate political gain? Ken Cuccinelli just wants to steal away Bob McDonnell's shine for his own Gubernatorial election gains.

Let me tell you something. If Mr. Cuccinelli keeps this up I'm voting for him. I'm voting for him for the sheer entertainment factor. This guy is gonna be Mr. Headline everyday. I love it.

We are talking about the Republican Party and Ken Cuccinelli who carried out a coup against Bolling amongst party insiders right? Cuccinelli prefers the truth over party allegience? Political expediency has nothing to do with it right? Sure, an honest Republican.

Another reason to vote for him.

Cucinelli is a interesting creature for sure. As Virginia goes left even further :(, its going to be ass hats like him on the ticket. Bolling's bowing out guarantees McAuliffe an easy landslide. I'm thinking 68-32%.

Doubtful. Obama barely won VA and that was with a lot of the conservative base still sitting it out and another large turnout in the president's base. The Cooch may or may not win, but it would take a complete Cucinelli meltdown for him to lose that badly. He won by almost 20 points 4 years ago against a decent candidate from Fairfax County. It'll be close, 5 points or less either way. You may not like Cucinelli, but you're letting that get in the way of common sense. Get a testosterone shot and man up.

Weren't you the same dope who was whining about the Republicans passing this terrible bill until you got schooled that it was overwhelmingly supported by Democrats and opposed by Republicans?

Then you tried to turn it around to being McDonnell's fault for pushing this "unconstitutional" bill.

Now you want to whine when Cuccinelli comes out against it.

lol!

Idiot

Well now the Governor is protecting his unconstitutional bill even though his own Attorney General says it's outside the law.

Nobody ever claimed that McDonnell didn't support the bill. But that was never the issue. YOU were the one who posed it as matter of Republicans raising taxes on the poor. And then you got your dumb ass handed to you yet again as you always do because you didn't know the facts and you're a mindless slug who just parrots the same old crap that they're fed.

Republicans Raise VA Sales Taxes on Poor

Republicans have increased sales taxes on consumers and primarily the middle and poor classes. Looks as though Republicans do raise taxes. Primarily on the poor.

Help with new lines?

How exactly would you do that when all you do is regurgitate democratic talking points almost word for word?

First of all, I don't know which God damn Republican you were. I was debating a hornets nest of you fucktards on a variety of nonsensical points you like to make.

First of all a sales tax is a regressive tax the disproportionately in relation to percentage of income affects the poor to a greater extent.

I hope you understand that, if you don't go read or something. This bill whether you like to credit Bob McDonnell with or not, he refers to as his signature legislative achievement as governor.

He may run for president some day flaunting this bill which not a single Republican has been able to defend and have for the most part tried to distance themselves and Bob McDonnell himself from.

Now that that record is straight once again through the thickness of Republican obfuscation.

I don't parrot anyone nor do I mimic talking points. I talk about issues that aren't discussed in any form of media other than print. And when I do I am responded to with talk radio and fox news nonsense not relevant to the issue. So please, enough with the projecting.

The key is to stop abortions by making zoning regulations that make it impossible for abortion clinics to exist. That way you can circumvent a womans right to choose AND be a hypocrite about big government. State mandated zoning regulations are what republicans believe in, when it means that your vagina is controlled by us.

You weren't debating with anyone. You were getting pwned because you had no clue what the fuck you were talking about.

The terrible bill in question was overwhelmingly supported by DEMOCRATS and opposed by state Republicans. It was introduced and passed because of DEMOCRATS. Because McDonnell supported it doesn't change those fact that DEMOCRATS introduced, supported, passed, and continue to support this regressive tax bill. You can't even follow a consistent rational line in your own argument given that you're now aligned with Cuccinelli and the Republicans in your opposition to the bill, as terrifying as that may be for you. lmao

ALL you do is parrot talking point BS idiot. That's one disadvantage of being a dumbshit like you... you think everyone is as dumb as you are. lol

I agree. Theres some republicans I cant stand that need to go from Washington, but the problem is with the current agenda of the leaders of the left it forces people like me to support republicans I dont like to prevent giving more power to an agenda I absolutely cant stand/watching the constitution get used as an outline of suggestions.

The irony is that the agenda of leaders of the right forces me to support Democrats I don't like for pretty much the same reason.

The right today is overall more moderate than its been historically, conversely the left has gone so far left the right looks extreme. The few extreme right members would have nothing to do with any vote being cast in Northern VA

You can try to distance yourself from your Governors travesty of a bill but he seems to be the only one that is insisting on keeping it. Democrats and Republicans have joined up in bipartisan opposition to the bill urging the governor to veto the bill. Supposedly the reason he wasn't invited to CPAC was because McDonnell is credited for the bill.

Now he is saving it, it sits in his office ready to veto with bipartisan opposition. He is betting his legacy on the bill yet Republicans on Fairfax Underground say it was the Democrats.

Well I tell you what. His Republican Attorney General told him it was unconstitutional, nationwide CPAC attending Republicans denied him an invitation over it. Democrats are calling it unconstitutional. People oppose it.

It's sitting on his fucking desk, it isn't law yet. If it's not his bill why won't he veto it?

Maybe, if you're a Republican and actually believe the sewage that comes out of your mouth's, you should be calling his office urging him to veto? You think?

You don't seem to understand. I don't care whether McDonnell supported it. I'm not an idiot ideologue like you.

I'm not even a fucking Republican you dumbshit.

My only interest in this is making you look like the blind partisan babbling fool that you are.

Here are your facts:

"Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe released a statement of his own praising McDonnell and the General Assembly for the bill's passage.

"The passage of this historic mainstream compromise with bipartisan support is a critical step forward for Virginia. It will make significant progress toward solving our transportation problems and making Virginia the best place for business. Despite last minute attempts by some right-wing ideologues to stop any progress on transportation, Virginia's leaders came together in the middle to find compromise."

More facts:

"Virginia Senate passes transportation bill with increased sales taxes
By The Associated Press February 23, 2013 - 03:08 pm

The state Senate has passed the first long-term reform to Virginia's floundering 27-year-old system for funding repairs and upkeep of its 58,000-mile network of highways.

The 25-15 vote sends to Gov. Bob McDonnell what would be the defining policy legacy in the fourth and final year of the single, non-renewable term Virginia allows its governors.

Democrats voted 17-3 to pass the bill. Eight Republicans voted in favor, 12 voted against."

Your opposition to this bill is aligned with the Republican position, you're just too fucking stooopid to understand that.

@Skooling-Look again. Remember there are different forms of irony.

@Liberal Logic 102-I have a hard time seeing how the right has moderated. The moderate right used to be men like Howard Baker and John Warner. Today a president who, like Reagan, tripled the national debt, gave blanket amnesty to illegal immigrants, signed bills raising taxes multiple times, and expanded the size of government probably would be viewed as suspect by the right. Maybe things look different from your side of the glass.

McDonnell had guts. McDonnell raised taxes to pay for transportation....although as a good Republican, he hid the taxes as users won't be writing checks to the state....just swiping their credit/debit cards (LOL)

Of course the right has gone into the insane asylum. They shunned our own Republican Governor simply because he reached a bipartisan consensus on transportation needs through the raising of sales taxes and various other fee's and taxes.

Bob McDonnell is to the left of the current Republican party. Bob McDonnell is about as to the right you can get. And he tries to say it's the Democratic party that has moved left?

Ronald Reagan, Bush Sr. and even Bush Jr. would have no place in the current Republican Party. There's literally a war brewing within the party over these differences and the fact that it's been detrimental to them winning elections.

He raised them in a time of need because he felt it was the right thing to do not as part of class warfare with spending out of control and only moderately raised the debt while also defeating the USSR.

Trying to compare now to what Regan did is not comparable. Government revenue was much lower than and the wasteful spending of today wasnt present. There was waste but no where like today and he wasnt living in luxury using his position to live like a king with separate flights for his wife and acting like a child closing down the white house when he didnt get his way while sending billions to his friends at energy companies that dont work and everyone knows they dont work. Oh and he was actually a LEADER he didnt blame Carter for 8 years like we have now.

Its a complete fallacy to say a guy like Reagan would be shunned. Bush was barely a conservative and won, Romney was barely a conservative and was the nominee.

The truth is JFK is the one would be shunned by modern liberals. If you cant see how the right has moderated than you are MUCH further left than you try and come across.

Government spending directly increases GDP.

Government spending as a component of GDP increased from about 35% of GDP pre-Obama, where it averaged from WWII, to about 43% during.

So, as the GDP number rises the % represented by the dollar value of tax receipts at roughly the same levels declines in direct proportion.

Tax receipts on a dollar basis are in fact about as high as they've ever been under Obama. The extent to which they were any lower in early years primarily reflected lower economic activity versus any reduction in tax burden. Receipts were at the highest levels in 2006-2008 just prior to the crash.

Last, what you failed to mention in citing receipts is the other side of the equation. Outlays as a percentage of GDP increased more, from ~19%-20% prior to about 24%-25% during his term.

Va. Dems' robo call hits Cuccinelli on transportation
15 MARCH 2013 | 12:44 PM

Virginia Democrats have taken to the telephone in their ongoing quest to flog Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli over his vague responses on whether he'd seek to repeal the just passed $3.5 billion transportation package if he's elected governor...

The call targets thousands of Virginians, including residents of Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia and Richmond that stand to benefit from the new revenue generated for road maintenance and upkeep under HB 2313.

Cuccinelli opposed the final form of the compromise legislation because, in his view, it burdens taxpayers by imposing new levies on them...

Democrats have repeatedly pressed Cuccinelli on the topic to draw a contrast with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe, who helped rally some legislators to support the plan.

It is an unfair piece of legislation that puts a tax burden that's greater on the north. It is unconstitutional as well. I actually commend Ken Cuccinelli on this. Although I oppose everything he represents. He is right on this and he did stand up for what he believes. I'm not even certain if it was for political reasons although it does seem like the legislation is getting a tremendous amount of criticism from both sides of the aisle.

It's become very controversial and I doubt it's popularity. Is it popular in area's with less revenue due to benefit from our tax dollars?

This is why laws like this are unconstitutional. It creates regional animosity and deludes the perception of fair taxation.

This situation does seem to be going anywhere but good with increasing pressure on McDonnell to back away from it.

Virginia hybrid vehicle $100 registration fee in transportation bill
February 25, 2013 - 05:10 pm

The bill would replace Virginia's 17 ½ cents-per-gallon retail gasoline tax with a 3.5 percent wholesale tax on gasoline and a 6 percent levy on diesel fuel. It boosts statewide sales taxes from 5 percent to 5.3 percent. It increases the titling tax on car sales and adds a $100 registration fee for fuel-sipping hybrid vehicles.

I know you want to blame democrats for this but that's going to be an impossible feat with a Republican Governor defending it. The real story is going to end up being the Virginia Republican infighting and how Cuccinelli opposes compromise in line with the ideology that has caused government dead lock in Washington. It will weaken McDonnell's future prospects as well as Cuccinelli's immediate prospects.

Democrats deliver votes to pass House transportation bill

The House of Delegates passed Gov. Bob McDonnell’s transportation funding bill this morning, with four Democrats casting key votes to keep the Republican governor’s signature legislative initiative alive.

By a vote of 53-46, the House passed a bill (House Bill 2313) that would eliminate the state’s gasoline tax, increase the retail sales tax from 5 percent to 5.8 percent and increase vehicle registration fees by $15 annually. If enacted, the legislation could generate more than $3 billion over five years for roads and transit.

Four Democrats, including Del. Onzlee Ware of Roanoke, delivered key votes that helped the bill get through the Republican-dominated House. Eighteen Republicans voted against the measure.

Anyway, your Republican Governor has until midnight tomorrow night to sign, amend or veto this bill.

Decisions, decisions. See if he wants to be Mr. Republican tax a lot. Don't worry, sales taxes are regressive. If you're a middle class Republican you'll take the hit. It doesn't affect rich Republicans as much.

Okay, I agree, it was all Democrats, 100 percent Democrats in the house and senate which is impossible. I accept your none sense. I agree.

Now, to move on, tomorrow night, a Republican Governor has to sign it to become law. He has to do this with a Republican Attorney General running for Governor telling him it's unconstitutional.

See, the governor has a veto power in this country.

SHARON BULOVA, the Democratic chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, said the bill was a “great step toward addressing the transportation challenges we face in Fairfax County and the Northern Virginia region.”

...Bulova applauded the bipartisan efforts of Governor McDonnell, Sen. Janet Howell (D- 32), Del. David Albo (R-42) and Del. Vivian Watts (D-39) for reaching agreement on a funding strategy [regressive tax] that “moves us in the right direction,” Bulova said.

Those are contingent on passage of a federal internet sales tax law.

Technically, internet sales are already supposed to be collected in Virginia, but no one ever reports them.

Amazon will start charging tax in VA in September 2013 regardless of either under a previous agreement that was made last year. They got about $4 million in incentives to locate several warehouses in the state. In return they are expected to collect about $23 million in taxes for the state.

Its not really sticking it to us since youre supposed to be doing it anyway in their mind.

But yes they got a break to come to VA to provide jobs and economic activity. VA will make more than the 4 million off them in the long run.

No dipshit its not what I think thats what the current VA tax law is. Its been that way for years, it has nothing to do with what I think. Every state has a different law on that issue but for VA you are supposed to pay taxes on anything you buy just like in countless other states so online stores dont run all the local businesses out of business.

As a company they still have to pay whatever business taxes, property taxes, etc. They'll also generate revenue indirectly in other ways as a result of having the facilities here. Don't know exactly how the incentives are structured but on net it will work out to be whatever the tax revenues and other economic benefits end up being beyond that $4 million.

At least I'm assuming that the state is smart enough not to give away more in incentives than they expect to get back. Not much point otherwise. But then just the added $23 million in collections that they're not getting more than a dribble of now is pretty good incentive in itself.

But you're right in a way. Everyone gets something...

Amazon got something.
The state gets something.
We get something - assured collection of taxes on our Amazon purchases. ;)

You've supposed to be paying them all along anyway but we all know how that goes.

It will be funny to see Gerrymanderer's reaction when we have Gov. Cucinelli. I bet she pukes all over herself.

After all, according to this dumbass McDonnell appointed him, right?

To tell you the truth. Cuccinelli has his upside and downsides.

Negatives- Right winger, cares about reproductive rights more than economic development, big mouth, negative perception of the state nationwide, potential embarrassment.

Positives- Principled, opposes Bob McDonnell's tax bill, is a crazy mofo that will be very entertaining to watch govern.

The very entertaining part really has me swayed. Terry McAullife is quite the big mouth idiot too though. I may get that sheer entertainment out of Terry too. Terry will be just as dumb but he can organize and will probably get things done. Cuccinelli is going to be just detrimental to the state, looking to be difficult with the implementation of the Affordable Health Care Act.

Cuccinelli has the potential to damage the state. Then you got the Senate passing bills when Democrats are absent changing how we proportion electoral presidential votes. You need a Governor that puts a stop to crazy stuff like that and forced ultra sounds and such.

Cuccinelli will never be a check on the nut jobs in the state legislature. That scares me.

Hey shithead, 60% of the vote in 2009's VA Senate races went to republicans. Yet, the senate was split 20/20. The Senate was trying to "fix" that (if you consider a 60/40 split being equal as something that is broken). Either way, you continue to get schooled by the conservatives on here. One would think, after having been wrong so often, that you'd recognize your stupidity and at least change ID's so you can post as another uninformed idiot.

Youve yet to state a factual statement and you accuse others about lying. You thought the Governor appointed the AG, didnt know you were supposed to pay taxes on internet sales, claimed the bill was a republican one when it was democratic votes that passed it and had far more democratic support, do I even need to go on?

Even in your criticism of comments I've made in the past you're lying. I asked if our Attorney General is appointed then concluded he was elected, was thinking out loud. Oh the horror. The McDonnell tax bill does want to further internet taxation, it will require further legislation but it continues to progress us on that path.

And finally, you're last lie about me supposedly lying. If it's not a Republican Tax Bill and you Republicans hate it and it raises taxes? Tonight, we'll see if your good Republican Governor VETO'S it.

The same Republican Governor that drafted most of it.

Fuckin liars man. I called one Republican a liar because he knows they tried to change the Virginia Presidential Electoral allocation system and didn't even address it. Then

Then two more liars start ankle biting, and lying about things that I said which can't even be considered lies.

The Attorney General is elected and appointed. Wow, what a malicious partisan lie. dumb ass's. When will the retardation subside. You're like children. Someone needs to teach you some manners.

Youre lying again, you didnt conclude anything you were told and mocked for it. The internet tax comment was completely separate where you were once again proved wrong arguing with me about new internet taxes from amazon.

You do understand hes one person right? Hes not the high counsel of the GOP. He can sign the dam thing and that doesnt change that Dems were the ones who got it to his desk. Unlike you libs we dont blindly follow anyone with an R next to their name or love every single thing they do. We think for our self.

The only one whose acting like a child is you. You get proven wrong and start calling people names. You have also expressed the thought process of a child. This post like all your others is filled with half truths as best. You can say whatever you want it doesnt change the fact that someone can scroll up and read what actually happened and not your fantasy version of it

You're just a dumb ass so I'm not going to respond to the stupid shit you say. This one though, this one is special.

"You do understand hes one person right? Hes not the high counsel of the GOP. He can sign the dam thing and that doesnt change that Dems were the ones who got it to his desk. The Governor has the right to veto the bill. You say you don't follow him but you're going to so much effort to evade giving him any responsibility for legislation he says is his own himself and may sign into law tonight.

With that knowledge, right his statement again I just quoted and the irony there. This man is calling me a liar.

Anyway, all you Republicans acting dumb know what the deal is. You know this is the Governor McDonnell Bill.

Here is a Virginia native on your 630 AM radio dial. Mr. Mark Levin himself. A self described Republican putting your argument to bed for me. Take a listen, then lets see if you come back with some decency.

Your too stupid to understand that at best your argument makes it a bipartisan bill. You wont respond to what I say because Im right and exposing the garbage youre spewing.

Your entire point has been to try and blame the GOP when its not them. It may be McDonnells bill but that doesnt mean had had widespread support from the GOP in the house or Senate as the voting shows it was the Dems in the house and senate that got that through.

So again your entire thread and all your ranting to blame the GOP is garbage. At best its a bipartisan bill if it gets signed and your attempts to spin it as the AG just giving an opinion for his own political game showing in fighting have also been completely blown out of the water.

Youve done nothing more than made the Hidenburg of political arguments, your points were doomed from the start

Holy shit look what I found. Don't believe me believe your lying eyes. Here is Bob McDonnell in his full glory stating that Cuccinelli "needs to read the Bill" and then goes off on defending the bill, states it's his bill and then puts forward every other Republican responsible for the bill in the state.

I think this video here has put the trolls to rest. Now go off and hide in your lair's.

This once a must watch...
