Real Estate Tax Relief...
Posted by: Lloydster ()

OK. My parents live in Fairfax County. Because of COLA to their Social Security income it looks like they will have to pay 50% of their RE tax next year. Initial research on my part indicates that no adjustments have been made to the income thresholds below since 2004.

I cannot confirm this as I asked for info from Herrity (Springfield) and Hudgins(Hunter Mill) office almost three weeks ago and received no reply.

Thoughts and feelings on this issue from the Underground before I spend my valuable time on this.

To qualify for a Real Estate tax exemption under the Tax Relief Program, the following requirements must be met:

•The applicant must be at least 65 years of age, or permanently and totally disabled. Applicants who turn 65 or become permanently and totally disabled during the year of application may also qualify for tax relief on a prorated basis.

•If the dwelling is jointly owned by an applicant and spouse, either the applicant or the spouse must be at least 65 years of age or older, or permanently and totally disabled.

•The gross income from all sources of the owners of the dwelling and any relatives of the owners who reside in the dwelling may not exceed $72,000. The following income limitations and percentage of relief apply:

$52,000 or less 100% (Pay no real estate tax)
$52,001 to $62,000 50%
$62,001 to $72,000 25%

•For each relative (other than spouse) residing in the dwelling, the first $6,500 of income may be excluded. Disabled applicants may exclude the first $7,500 of income.

•The total combined net assets of owners of the dwelling and of the spouse of any owner who resides in the dwelling may not be greater than $340,000 (not including the value of the home, its furnishings and up to one acre of land).

•When the property is jointly owned and the co-owner is deceased, a certified copy of the death certificate must be provided.

Fuck you - pay your bills. Isn't it enough you are bankrupting the country with your demand for Federal entitlements - now you have to demand a free ride at the local level too?

Don't let the facts get in your way:

"....past and current generations will pay $71.3 trillion in payroll taxes but will receive $93.4 trillion in benefits. Adjusting for past and future transfers from the federal Treasury, the difference between "paid-in" and "paid-out" works out to $21.6 trillion."

If they didn't want to be bent over on higher taxes, why did they vote for me?

Only fools work and pay taxes. I get a nice welfare check every month, reduced rent to $200.00 for a luxury condo that would go for $2,000.00 on the open market. My kids get free breakfast and lunch at school while I bring down $565.00 in food stamps. I receive free medical and dental plus an obamaphone with 2,000 free texts a month and 250 hours free time.

You would have to make $80,000 a year to come close to matching what I get for free. Suckers.

We're talking RE taxes here, not SS or Medicare. Take your entitlement shit and shove it. I'm sure they'd give back the paltry raise in SS benefits to get under the threshold.

Holy shit batman. An email from Herrity's office. Trolling the FFXU boards.

"I saw a post on Fairfax Underground referencing an email you had sent to our office to which a response was not given."

All from posting on FFXU. Now I know why I voted for that guy.

Given how stupid you turned out, they should ask for a refund.

I sent all of my kids to private schools. I still paid and still do.

You're the one who pushes for all of the "stuff" all of which costs real money. Now you're whining because it affects you even if indirectly. An adjustment's not been made to the thresholds because they know that they need that revenue. If they adjust, then they'd need to raise it elsewhere.

Now quit yer bitchin and pay your bills.

My aren't we still bitter about LOSING the election.

Maybe an adjustment's not been made because nobody brought it to their attention.

Give me my SS, Medicare, free/reduced admission to everything, and discounted property tax. Borrow it from China and let the grandchildren pay. Wait till ALL my boomer buddies are on the entitlement dole - then we'll really get going spending our grandchildren's tax increases.

My aren't we hypocritical.

I'm an independent and vote various ways at various times on the basis of various issues, so your lame attempt at a dig doesn't really work. Sorry. But in any case I'm not the one bitching about paying my taxes.

Yeah, I'm sure that they just completely overlooked it. lol

Now pay your damn bills. You could always pay it for them you know. Just consider it the true cost of having your grass cut for cheap and all of those other benefits to society that you folks tend to cite.

Among its MANY flaws, the proposed (and now soundly defeated) meals tax lacked provisions for tax relief for the elderly and disabled:

https://fairfaxvotenoonthemealstax.wordpress.com/2016/10/03/vote-no-on-the-meals-tax-the-meals-tax-targets-the-elderly-and-disabled/

The fact that this key provision was overlooked is just more evidence that FCPS is badly run and that the school board consists, for the most part, of nothing but self interested opportunists and misguided social justice warriors.
