Looking beyond the lack of understanding the English language, this story is bullshit.

There is no room in a house to swing a bat freely, unless you somehow met them in the MIDDLE of a living or bed room, doubtful. There were multiple intruders, so choosing a bat is a mistake someone with self-defense knowledge would not make. If they had a gun, you would have been shot. Saying "I am tired of shooting people" gives the whole bullshit story away, as you have just made it a "Macho-Man" contest.

Try again.

Va. teen's parents say they forgive his killer

Tuesday - 3/19/2013, 2:27pm ET

The family of 16-year-old Caleb Gordley says they forgive their neighbor for shooting and killing their son. (WTOP/Nick Iannelli)Nick Ianelli, wtop.com

STERLING, Va. - Their son was shot and killed over the weekend. But Tuesday morning under blue skies and sunshine, the family of 16-year-old Caleb Gordley expressed acceptance and forgiveness.

"I don't blame the gentleman," says Jennea Gordley, adding that she forgives the shooter. "This was an accident."

Gordley's son was shot and killed this past weekend inside a neighbor's home. Family members say he entered the wrong house mistakenly after a night of drinking.

He was shot by the homeowner.

"I love my son," says Caleb's father, Shawn Gordley. "I don't have any tears left."

Still, the family says they will move away from their Sterling neighborhood. They can't stand to live on that block anymore.

Those close to the high school junior live both in the D.C. area and in Ohio, where the family has many relatives.

A "celebration" of his life will occur in both locations, according to the family.

Meanwhile, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is investigating, and family members say they have been less than helpful.

"Everything I've gotten, beyond the very little they (sheriff's officials) have told us, has come from the media," Shawn Gordley says.

Jennea Gordley described the department's actions as "unfair."

WTOP obtained a statement from the department Tuesday.

It reads, "The LCSO offers it's condolences to the family and friends of Caleb Gordley, and continues to investigate this incident. The LCSO only disseminates accurate information to the family and to the public, as it becomes available. There is a lot of speculation and rumor in this case, and we are working on sorting out the facts. It would be irresponsible to put out information that's not verified."

Sheriff's officials say they have been in regular contact with the family and will continue sharing information as the investigation comes to a close.

In the meantime, the Gordleys are just trying to stay positive.

"I got 16-and-a-half awesome years (with Caleb)," his father says. "I will hold on to that. I will hold on to those 16 years."

A baseball bat is a great visual deterrent but ineffective against an opponent who is determined and willing to duck and dodge.

I saw a big dude with a ball bat get the shit beat out of him by a much smaller guy once. The guy wielding the bat let it drop below his shoulders after a clumsy swing or two and the little guy cracked him multiple times as his guard was down and his face was easy prey. Fists are lighter and travel faster.

I carried a ball bat (and a glove to defuse weapon allegations) for years. Great to use just to scare away the average dolt who gets a little froggy, but any decent martial arts or MMA guy has the bob-weave-duck down well enough to render a bat useless.

Sorry to break the news but like em or not, handguns rule.

These house look nothing like each other from behind. One is parallel to Church Road, the other is at an angle. The features are also very different - notably a screened in porch. Plus one house is opposite the turning lane and right off an intersection, the other is opposite a 2 lane portion of the road. The backyards are also noticeably different in size.

The 'wrong house' argument is a little fishy.

Legal
- Kinky sex
- Handguns
- Unlocked windows
- Shooting intruders in your home

Illegal
- Underage drinking
- Trespassing
- Breaking and entering
- Menacing

I think the homeowner wins on this one.

You don't need the windows to be locked to be a true break in. The act of opening it is sufficient to qualify as a "break in."

Laughable at best. Harry Reid just declared Diane's "assault weapons bill"
dead in the Senate so I doubt you'll be signing up more "likes". Meanwhile,
the NRA membership has grown by nearly a million in the last three months.

I cannot arm my alarm system if a window is left unlocked. My alarm system is not some cheap piece of shit so that might have something to do with it.

I do NOT blame the owner of the house. He had every right to defend himself and his family.

Sad situation all around.

1971 and just got back from another world. Trying to find peace within so I bought a nice stone house in Falls Church to renovate. Two dumbasses decided that the house was unoccupied and needed a place to hide. They both had priors and the police were very interested in them. They picked the wrong residence.

I must say, the blame for all this falls squarely on the shoulders of the absent parents. I don't believe for one second that good ole Mom and Dad grounded him for not cleaning his room...geeez!And if they did, wouldn't you check on your 16 year old son at some point during the evening (on a weekend night) to see how he's doing? Yet they still don't know where he is at 2:30am? Poor parenting to say the least. I agree with some previous posts, look like he had it coming and the parents know it, did you hear that statement his mother made??? "It's all good, I don't hold nobody at fault...whose to say what the good Lord wanted, he's an angel now..ain't nothing but a thing???

Dear NOW is the time. Twenty years ago an armed intruder broke into my house. Specifically, in my baby son's room. I grabbed the phone, dialed 911, threw it on the floor. I also grabbed the shotgun and as the dispatcher was yelling "m'am, m'am, they are on their way!" I shot at the foot that had broken through the screen just a few feet away from my son's crib. The police came 6 minutes later; the intruder had a gun and a knife, and was on parole for a violent offense.

If you don't want a gun, don't buy a gun. But don't you DARE presume to take away my right to defend myself and my family. (Arrogant, ignorant, kool-aid drinking jackass, she mumbled to herself.)

Teenager Identified in Fatal Shooting on Pullman Court
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 18, 2013

Contact: Liz Mills, Director of Media Relations and Communications, 571-251-5568 (mobile)
Liz.mills@loudoun.gov

Loudoun County, VA- The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has identified a Park View High Student who was fatally shot inside a Sterling, Virginia home as Caleb A. Gordley

Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputies initially responded to the home in the 45900 block of Pullman Court for a report of a burglary with shots fired by the homeowner. The shooting took place shortly after 2:30AM Sunday when a resident reported that their house alarm was activated. As the homeowner went to investigate, he discovered an unknown male inside their home on the stairwell. The teenager lost his life at the scene.

The 16-year-old lived on the same street as the home where the shooting took place and reportedly had been drinking alcohol with friends that evening. A rear window to the home was found opened and is believed to be the point of entry into the home.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and why the teenager entered the home. The agency is also awaiting a final report from the Medical Examiner’s Office, to include a toxicology report, to determine if drugs or alcohol played a factor.

If you have not already spoken to Detectives with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and have information regarding the case, you are asked to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.

Why was a minor of just 16 out on a Sunday night (a school night, mind you) until 2:30 a.m. and drunk? Any one of these things is flat-out wrong. Was he being raised by absentee parents? Was it commonplace that the young man was out "drinking" like an Irish sailor on shore leave on a school night? And drinking so much that he supposedly was obliterated out of his mind enough to become disoriented?

Forget gun control: where's the parental control?

Technically speaking he went out on Saturday night and was dropped off in the wee hours of Sunday morning. I agree with everything else you said though.

This was a normal night for us way back when. The difference is our neighbors would got us a drink of water, put us on the sofa with blanket and called the parents in the morning. Good neighbors would tell a little white lie and cover our asses. My parents would. Hell is when the police brought you home. Not for being drunk but for getting caught. We survived and graduated to become outstanding citizens and leaders.
This incident is a reflection of times and paranoia. You should make an effort to know your neighbors and become friends.
I feel sorry for the state of northern VA.

that being said, we still dont know the "interaction" between the kid and the tranny(?) so that debate is still up for grabs. Even if he knew the kid, if the kid was aggressive then it's kinda on him, unfortunately :(

Does he use his wifes, daughters or buy his own dresses?
Maybe GB was right and his friends dropped him off on purpose.
Or maybe either the wife or daughter needed some dark meat.

This incident stinks bullshit. No one shoots neighbors.
Especially sixteen year old drunks. I'm sorry but cross dresser should be held accountable.

Do we know where exactly the kid was shot? Head, chest, back, abdomen? I am guessing chest wound through the heart or liver but I would like to know.

Tough to type by true:

Mother of two typical teenage boys

Good kids, good grades, athletic and play on HS teams

They test me and do dumb things....

Last year alarm goes off at 2:15 in the morning; forced entry. Those who attempted entry bolted, thank God! Police responded very quickly, here for hours and determined attempted entry, busted screen downstairs in utility room, foot prints, etc.

Fast forward; took shooting lessons, practice, practice, practice and hope I never have to use the gun I purchased ever but know that if someone ever came into the home I would protect my kids. We have talked long and hard about telling friends not to do stupid stuff at our home ever; my kids included.

I hate guns but know that I'll not put my family through that night again.

Several gunslingers at work today were absolutely green with envy. They have wet dreams about getting a legal human kill. Few, if any ever will.

They're all hunters too. They invest tens of thousands of dollars on their hunting equipment. They swear up and down that they just really, really love that nasty deer meat. It's all a smokescreen, they just want to kill something, and since legal human shots are so rare, Bambi will do.

You bring up an interesting point. Does the fact that a
person might know an intruder create an obligation of any
kind to give more leeway before shooting? In this case,
it was 2:30am, dark, and the kid had clearly invaded the
home.

A black family lives next to me. We've had our differences
at time but generally keep it at least civil. If I awake
at 2:30am to find him in my house, and let's say I recognize
who it is, do I have any responsibility to further determine
his intentions, state of mind, or condition prior to employing
deadly force against what I perceive as a threat to myself
and/or my family?

Personally, I think not. If I hear something, I grab my gun
and flashlight (keeping it off). Once I am certain of where
my wife and child are, it's hunting season and I fully intend
to kill without hesitation *anyone* I find in the house. I move
slowly and quietly. The flashlight, with a high-output LED, is
intended when used to disorient at least momentarily anyone I
encounter, just long enough to make that double-tap count. I do
not want to scare off an intruder, I want to stop them and the
surest way to do that is to kill them.

And I regularly encounter 16 year olds larger than I am. How would
one know the age of an assailant under those conditions? Can a
16 y.o. inflict serious injury? Pull a trigger? Wield a knife?

If a homeowner waits to find out, it's already too late.

If cross dresser is a firefighter then waking at 2:30am is nothing.
Senses are alert and full attention so no excuse.
And the kid was his neighbor.

^^^ The kid fucked up. I'm not sure what went down in that house, There is only one person who is alive that knows. Fuck, If I wake up to a house alarm at 2:30am and I'm armed and see a person I do not know in my house, It's defcon 1. you have limited seconds to make a choice.

The flashlight would be enough for what? To identify
that there's an intruder in my house, someone I do or
do not know, and by lighting him up I've lost time to
react and revealed myself to him, giving him time to
act?

Like I said, once I know where my family is, what obligation
exists except to protect them by whatever means necessary?

You didn't answer the question on knowing an intruder.
Did that part confuse you?

And what do swatstikas have to do with this discussion?
That's a poor way to obfuscate the issues when you're losing.

I'm not losing. Learned to live with my ghosts decades ago.
You're the one who had to mention "black".
You stated you don't like your neighbors so your posting indicates you want the chance.
My friends are also my neighbors and if a young teenager came into my home I would calm him down and call his parents. I prefer having a beer with my neighbors instead of shooting their kids.
Guns are the very last resort and I hope you never have to make that decision.
It can ruin a good nights sleep.

Black, asian, hispanic... green, orange or purple. I cited black
because there's a black family next door, and we don't always get
along. Does the fact that there's a black family in close proximity
obligate me to establish identity, condition and intent should
I find an intruder, black or otherwise, in my home? I hold not.

You seem to feel that teenagers are less capable of inflicting
harm and may just be in the middle of a youthful bad decision.
I would not wait for establishment of such, given that the
hesitation could be a fatal mistake on my part. The law backs
me up. Do what you feel is best for safety of your family, and
I will do likewise.

I agree that guns are a last resort, but need for them becomes
paramount when a threat presents itself. An intruder in your home
is such a threat. I hope I never have to shoot, but I hope less
to ever regret not shooting when my family's safety is at risk
and I had the means to eliminate the threat. In the meantime, I
have strong locks, clearly defined property boundaries, and an
alarm. Once those lines are crossed, the guns are the solution
that moves to the front of the line in dealing with those who
ignore the former.

"My friends are also my neighbors and if a young teenager came into my home I would calm him down and call his parents."

I keep reading that "if I saw my neighbors kid", "if I saw a drunk teenager", etc.. "I would kick him out or calm him down or injur him with a non-lethal shot".

But you don't know if the lights were on or if it was a dark stairway at 230am. You also don't know what interaction took place on those stairs so you can't really judge someone for their actions without all the facts.

Bull shit. The NRA with their phoney statistics about 2.5 million Americans defending themselves with a handgun each year is as responsible for the shooting as the man with the gun.

I had the opportunity to take a "firearms safety" class a few years back. Some points that remain with me today regarding "most people" who suspect an intruder...

who have a firearm and a flashlight in the nightstand will grab the firearm and leave the light behind.

will fire five or more rounds at first, regardless of the target's reaction.

are likely to miss, even if aiming for the chest.

will not turn on the light in their bedroom, but will in the hall and downstairs.

are as likely to shoot a surprising relative as an unlawful intruder; adrenalin does that to you.

will feel great remorse as soon as the shooting ends.

All of the above is true with the exception of:

> are as likely to shoot a surprising relative as an
> unlawful intruder; adrenalin does that to you.

Although I know that it's legend and incidents are widely publicized when it happens, the facts are that's a very rare event. All you have to do is to see that is to look at the numbers of accidental shootings (even in total) and who they were shot by (CDC breaks this down or representative samples in their coding) versus the numbers of events involving use of guns by owners. Not even remotely close.

Now far many more relatives are *intentionally* shot by another but that's different matter.

I would like to thank the shooter for doing an excellent job in removing nigger scum from the planet. As soon as we determine your mailing address and the number of rounds expended we will reimburse you for the rounds. Additionally we will be sending you out a $50 gift card with our compliments. You probably have just saved the tax payers a ton of money in future prison costs.

We will handle billing the family of the niglet for the bullets and reimburse you directly.

It's always refreshing to see somebody back their opinion up with some research.

That said, how easy will it be to establish the shooter, who by all accounts was an upstanding dude --a fireman at that-- was in serious or grave physical danger?

Seems to me, what we have here is a 16 year old, who also, by all accounts was a good kid, got so drunk that he crawled into the wrong home. Embarrassing case of somebody who can't handle their shit but hardly something to get shot over. Seems to be just a really unfortunate death, but it's understandable how in the middle of the night and pitch-black one could mistake an intruder's lack of a response to warning (may well have been drunk to the point of incoherency...after all he was in the wrong house) as an intent to kill or harm.

My guess is he'll walk, but what the fuck do I know.

I have you now.

The homeowner really had no way to know that he was dealing with a drunk 16 year old with no evil intent and friends who were quite likely pulling a deliberate prank on said 16 year old. What if he had been an tweaker with a gun looking for money for his next fix? As the story goes, he yelled at the kid to stop several times and only shot when he got close to his wife and kid.

It easy to say coulda shoulda woulda now that we know the facts, but those facts were not apparent at all at the time of the incident.

"I'm not a particularly social person, but I would recognize a kid that lived a house away from me, four or five houses away, in fact."

Oh really? So the fact that almost ever person under the age of 25 wears hooded sweatshirts all the time and that you know nothing about the lighting conditions in the stairwell you can say without a doubt that you would have recognized him?

The cross dresser is a firefighter. Experience when dealing with early morning dispatches should have taught him to stay calm and evaulate the
situation. A flashlight and knowing his own premise are automatic for a professional. Many other variables were probably involved but shooting the kid two doors down is not one.
Cross dresser took a human life and will be held responsible. This type of situation will be exploited for both gun nuts and anti gunners but the end result
is a child is dead.

Forgiving him doesnt prevent some bottom feeding shark lawyer convincing the family to proceed with a civil suit.

He/she will tell them he/she will get them millions just to make them go forward. He/she will sue everyone including the county, the HOA of there is one, and even the company who built the houses claiming it's their fault because the houses are similar.

Believe me, Ive seen how this shit plays out.

This young man was so drunk he broke into a home that looked nothing like his. How drunk was he?

The alarm system was blaring but the drunk teen still continued to go to the upstairs level of the home while the family feared for their lives.

The homeowner will live for the rest of his life knowing he killed someone thru NO fault of his own.

I blame the kid!

The parents were smart to call out their child for being stupid. They forgave the shooter.

As a true American entrepreneur I have been waiting for "Roe versus Wade" to be reversed. Been saving and storing coat hangers for the last 24 years.
Abortions and/or lobotomies are the future in healthcare and I'll be on the ground floor. I was thinking Manassas would be the appropriate starting point.
A two for one special during Grand Opening. Hopefully soon cause some of the hangers are starting to deteriorate.

I can't believe the number of people here that have the expectation that someone woken up @ 2:30 in the morning with an alarm blaring and a person in the house to then calmly recognize the person, fire a non-fatal shot, etc. But then don't acknowlege the dozen things the kid, his friends and his family could have done hours before the shooting any one of which would have stopped this.

Very simple. If you are a cross dressing panty wearing nervous wreck you should't have a gun. He is a firefighter so nighttime situations are second nature to a professional.

"he didnt do it - he was too drunk too. his friends dumped him off."

I don't know what you mean by dumped him off. His friend climbed a fence with him and gave him a boost to climb in a window. At this point he was now in the wrong house climbing the stairs so I'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that "he didn't do it"

"alarm system blaring? what crack have you been smoking to hear some imaginary alarm go off?"

Imaginary alarm??? It cleary states in all accounts that the homeowner heard his house alarm go off.

"He is a firefighter so nighttime situations are second nature to a professional."

Right, he's a volunteer firefighter so that means he is trained in the use of firearms in highly stressful situations that occur in the middle of the night. If this story was about how he awoke to a fire coming in his back window at 230am then I would agree that his reaction would be second nature.

If you own a gun, make DAMN SURE that someone is intending to harm you before you kill them.

If a teenager got up for a drink of water, opened the window to get some air and had deadphones on, they too would have been blown away by RAMBO.

The guy needs to own his mistake.

Plus, if he is, violent toward women, I hope he goes to hell.

guns, how would YOU define if someone means you harm? I would think someone in my home at 0 dark thirty continuing to advance through the house while an alarm is sounding meets the definition. As for the rest of your post, either you don't understand what happened or you have been hitting the pipe.

No Gordon - per usual - you're wrong. You're whining like an abused girlfriend. "He beats me because he cares." Update on Fatal Shooting on Pullman Court

Loudoun County, VA- The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of March 17th. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputies had been dispatched to the home in the 45900 block of Pullman Court for a report of a burglary with shots fired by the homeowner.

At this point in the investigation, it appears Caleb A. Gordley, 16, of Sterling, Virginia, mistakenly entered a neighbor’s residence on Pullman Court through a rear, unlocked window. There is no evidence to indicate Caleb entered the home with any further criminal intent. The 16-year-old Park View High School student lived on the same street as the home. Based on interviews, it was learned Caleb had been drinking alcohol with friends that evening.

The shooting took place shortly after 2:30AM Sunday when a resident reported that their house alarm was activated. As the homeowner went to investigate, he discovered an unknown male inside their home.

The homeowner reportedly gave verbal warnings and discharged the firearm as a warning. As the teenager proceeded up the stairwell and into a hallway, the homeowner discharged his firearm several times. The teenager was struck once in the left rear shoulder after passing the homeowner in the hallway and walking towards an upstairs bedroom where other residents of the house were located. The teenager lost his life at the scene.

At this point, it appears that the firearm used, a .40 caliber pistol, was legally owned. Several shell casings and rounds were recovered at the scene.

While the issue of these minors obtaining alcohol is separate from the actual shooting, the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding how it was obtained.

On Wednesday, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Detectives met with members of Caleb’s family to update them on the latest findings in the case and to detail the circumstances surrounding the incident. The homeowner and Caleb’s family remain cooperative in the investigation.

The case remains open pending a final report from the Medical Examiner’s Office, to include a toxicology report. The results of the investigation are being reviewed by the Office of the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney, but no final determination will be made until all the information has been received.

#1- he has a 16 year old daughter. If she was in the house or not, he is responsible for her protection as her father. GO DAD! I'm curious what'd you'd be saying if this drunk kid snuck in quietly and raped his daughter. I doubt with a child the same age he's out congratulating himself though.

#2 those "cross-dressing" comments stem from his divorce to AMY (daughter's mom) when she was trying to find a way to deny custody. The bitches who wrote those are a bunch of fat skanks who performed in the rocky horror picture show with Amy. His ex was..sorry, is a whore and any and all comment to that effect stem from her inability to be a human being. Mind you, her next hubby played a cross-dressing freak onstage.

He did the everything right, except the warning shot, he shoulda shot first, warned later, since it obviously didn't work anyway! But, hey even the kids parents don't blame him! Doesn't that speak volumes?! He took out a worthless loser (who for all any of you know) intened to go after his child that night. Don't be stupid, you won't get shot in your neighbors house. It's simple.

Shot in the left rear shoulder means he was basically shot in the back. How does a 40 caliber kill someone in the left rear shoulder? It had to have been upper spinal cord area where the bullet pierced through vital arteries. Left rear shoulder doesnt smell right.

Now I guess they'll get down to the causes. The alcohol issue isn't unrelated to the shooting, its abuse obviously led this individual to do what he did. The fact that he ended up shot dead in a stranger's house was a consequence, not the cause.
