New Restaurant in Clifton?

Heart n Hand left, then Westin's came in and didn't make it. There was a sign for a while about some Italian place moving in. Saw a bunch of construction activity at one point but now everything seems to be dead.

What's going on with that place, did they find asbestos or something? Is the building too unstable?

The interior of the "Villagio" is being constructed now so people cannot see the work being done. The owners are doing it the right way and have not run out of money. One of the partners was a previous owner of all the San Vito's but sold to another owner. Those restaurants are tanking now as he tried to run the operations via cameras from another state.

Looking at sometime between beginning of July til end of August. All depends on the Contractors, how County inspections go (always a nightmare process), staff training.

When are they working on the inside? I've been past the place at different times of the day and I've never seen any work trucks, much less anyone working on the place. Do these guys come to work in Mercedes and BMWs?
What happened to the signs out front telling people what's going on? The place looks as dead as a Kansas strip mall.

I heard the owners abandoned the project due to a pending lawsuit from the town of Clifton.

Figures, if this is true.

Competition takes away customers from Trummers and the 'General' store, which people for some reason can't figure out how to park in front of the correct way.

Methinks they want Clifton to be recognized as an Artsy Fartsy type of town, as evident by the weird looking dude with the Subaru who is always 'painting' some Clifton scene, the aforementioned 'General' store and the coffee/crepe house. Of course, you can't forget Clifton day, the house tours and the wine festivals.

Peterson's ice cream is good on a hot summer day although I've never sampled a weenie or burger from the place.

A high end restaurant, a dive bar and a pizza place (if it ever goes in) will not compete with each other in any meaningful way. I predict a successful third restaurant would start to draw bigger crowds away from the dreadful soullessness that is Centreville. But it looks doubtful for the pizza place for whatever reason.

I've always heard the new place will be an Italian restaraunt that also serves pizza and offers carry out and pizza delivery from the little shop next store. I know for sure the lawsuit rumor is a fabricated story. For those posters who have driven by and not seen work being done, it's probably because the front doors are blocked off and access to the inside is only from the rear of the building. Work vehicles have been parked in back for several weeks.I also think there's a reason the big red Capital rolloff construction dumpster is parked on the property.

You may be right, but I've never seen anyone there working and I've driven by at all hours of the day. You never see lights on inside, even temporary ones, so they're working in the dark? Sunlight? When the fence was up, they had a big sign on it, now there's nothing. If you were bringing a restaurant into a town, wouldn't you want to drive 'excitement' by telling potential customers with a sign? There's nothing in any of the windows, just what appears to be permits, although I haven't looked at them closely; they could be cease and desist orders.

Sure was a lot of activity yesterday on the patio area behind the building, a Bobcat and 4 laborers digging out the area. Call me crazy but it sure looks like they are preparing to pour concrete and I wouldn't be surprized to see construction of "the village" walls begin in a week or so.

Anyone who has a clue has seen construction there constantly. I mean the menu is up on the window, and has been for months, so what other signs do you cretins need that the place is not opening on schedule of Fall 2012? But they did paint some of the outside recently (go around the side) and kicked out the consignment person to the left side of the restaurant and took over that part. Who needs old petticoats anyway.... I see happiness with lots of great Italian meals on the cheap soon....

I did see construction going on in the back side of the building. The menu is up and the right side of the building has been painted green.

Now opening on schedule? I don't know about that.

You also have your dates wrong. 2012? We are in 2013.

The consignment store was on the right side of the building. It is gone but the inside portion has been dark.

I wish this new restaurant great success. Clifton would love a great family style restaurant. It would really add what is missing in our current area.

It was supposed to open last FALL in 2012. That's what the SIGN said. And THIS ARTICLE dated June 27, 2012: http://fairfaxstation.patch.com/articles/italian-restaurant-to-open-in-clifton
