Dunn Loring Metro- Zero parking enforcement -construction workers
Posted by: JohnnyTooBad ()

The parking lot at Dunn Loring Metro Rail is being developed into two hotels and apartments - since Metro gave a 60 year land lease to JP Morgan to displace and develop the lot. There is still some parking for Metro riders, but it's shrinking daily as construction picks up.

Of course, it's illegal for the construction workers to park there. In spite of that, the lower section of the lot is overridden with workers parking there each day.

Where, oh where, is the law enforcement??.... it has vanished... how could that be? do they know JP Morgan? Last I checked the 99% paid Metro and the police force, not the 1%. Time to clean up the mess that's displacing riders.

On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9QL9o-DKnk

If they can't or won't manage this, then what will it look like when hotel patrons are overrunning the entire facility?

Non of this is passing the smell test.

Parking at the Metro may be cheaper than parking at the dedicated hotel parking garages, if the parking rates at the hotels in Arlington are setting precedence for the area. Then maybe the powers that be will just have to make the Dun Loring Station into a "foot traffic only" metro with no available parking, a set up just for all the condo livers around the metro. The ritzy condos across the street seem to have parking garages behind them--I wonder if they also do not enforce parking in those? After all, all those people living there have guests who have to park somewhere too...Who is to say who the guests are, if they don't permanently park in there?

I'd be completely for making the area around the Dunn Loring metro foot traffic only.

As for condo's by a metro most enforce parking pretty strictly and will tow. You generally have a garage and have to use a fob to let a guest into the garage.

@OP - have you bothered to call Transit Cops instead of just whining to us about it online? 202-962-2121

Making videos and posting to this forum was strictly a last resort. I've phoned it in to transit cops many many times... and so have many other riders. It's exhausting trying to get a result on this.

Is it that they don't care, don't want to make the drive, or are on the side of big developers and turn a blind eye? I don't know.

It's worth showing some out there who find it interesting what they get for their tax dollars at times.

The good thing is that there is plenty of time to get on the job and regulate the parking lot as it should be, its just interesting to see what it takes to get that result, or if a result is at all possible.

So in addition to the condos they're going to be building more crap in that already tiny parking lot? Great.

Right.. I'm sure all types of people park in the metro lot. It all points to Metro being completely incapable of managing a parking lot in a muilt-use area, particularly when the lot itself has been subdivided into new hotels.

The new set of DC commuters from Dunn Loring will soon become the hotel guests, the Mosaic district dwellers, shoppers, and the businesses who buy the reserved metro spots. This is a huge development project with JP Morgan and TrammelCrow financing it. Metro needed money, and sold them a 60 year lease on the commuter lot to develop it.

When they get done, there will be little parking to be had, and rents in Mosaic will look like Clarendon. Anyone who once lived there or parked there will no longer have access due to no space, or affordability. That is how progress is defined around here.

This!

Parking at DL metro station will be a thing of the past. Metro will now set its eyes on Vienna next. Enjoy your new urbanism!

Don't worry, it will all even out eventually.

A huge chunk of the DC-Metro economy is based on the unsustainable growth of the federal gov't. At some point in the near future all of the fiscal irresponsibility and money printing will catch up with the feds and they will be forced to make MASSIVE cuts. Tens of thousands of direct gov't employees and contractors will be laid off.

Real estate prices will plummet and cost of living will return to a sane level. It will be easy to find a parking space at any metro station.

No need to be snotty bout it, my friend. In spite of people like you, when the mainstream DC media finally find get on to this, the problem will be solved. Metro will clean it up.

Thanks Al Gore for inventing the internet!

you obviously arent from around here so let me 'splain something to you, Lucy.....................NOBODY GIVE A FUCK ABOUT WHO PARKS IN THE METROLOT, OK? Metro dont cause they get paid no matter what. Condos dont cause the more workers who park there means less bullshit they have to deal with. And YOU dont or else you'd be doing something more than just whining on the interwebz about it. I notice you didnt point out the sign to any of those workers. Cant bother to have a face to face regular conversation with someone, but can film them and bitch about them online? Around here, we have a word for ppl like that LoLz

First, are people still using the whole 99% vs 1% nonsense? That was so 2011.

Second, quit yer bitchin'. Look how many empty spaces you drove by in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuAAjseIs-w

Third, you drove right past a WMATA vehicle in that video with a guy sitting in the car. Did you get out and ask him about the construction workers parking there?

Fourth, do you think the poor shlubs you videoed are the 1%? They are working men and women that are trying to do their jobs. I don't think some head honcho in NYC at JP Morgan is sitting behind a desk doing some sort of evil laugh while ordering local contractors to put up some rebar. Do you? Take off the tinfol hat, man.

Don't worry ladies, they're gonna clean it up in spite of your comments. This is what the internet is good for. The job's gonna get done.

The shot of the WAMTA truck pretty well documents that there is ZERO enforcement by Metro... It really looks like they and TramCrow JP Morgan work well together, doesn't it?

Thanks for spotting that!

LOL. I bet the local Patch won't even run with the story. In the one video there are more than a dozen open spaces. This is such a non-story it is unbelievable.

If you get this worked up about some contractors parking in a Metro lot, I'd hate to see how butthurt you get during a real tragedy.

OMG HOW THE HELL DIDNT I SEE THIS ONE COMING!?!?!

a) starts out posting resonable, with normal sounding problem - video included! (SHOULD HAVE BEEN A BIG FUCKING RED FLAG TO YOU, MISTER BOULEVARD!!! *hits self in head*)
b) resists/doesnt listen to logical answers to his "problem" from posters
c) starts talking about how he's been crusading this "problem" for a while without getting a desired response from those in actual authority of the situation
d)starts talking batshit crazy

No me gusto LoLz

Have you thought about getting a real job? Who drives around a metro parking lot at 1 in the afternoon counting construction workers? What was wrong with the more than a dozen empty spaces you drove by?
