Are you worth $400 an hour?
Posted by: reset needed ()
Date: March 08, 2013 01:50PM

The salaries in this area are thru the roof--all justified, falsely, because everyone is convinced that housing costs should be high, therefore, salaries must follow.

$100k seems to be the average of working Fairfax residents.

Unless you are in sales or highly skilled or create billable hours for a firm--lawyer or doctor, you are probably not worth $100k.

Yes. I believe that I, and the skills I bring to the table, are in fact worth that much. You're clearly not, though.

It should be $400 per day to equal approximately $100k per year.

Inequality And The Decline Of Labor

Submitted by Charles Hugh-Smith of OfTwoMinds blog,

As for education, I have often pointed out the fallacy in this assumption: training 100,000 people to become PhDs does not automatically create 100,000 jobs for them. Granting 100,000 advanced degrees in chemistry does not create jobs for these 100,000 newly minted chemists. The demand must be organic, i.e. employers see some way to generate $200,000 of value in the marketplace from paying one of these graduates $100,000. (Recall that the pay scales for advanced degrees are high, so the bar of value creation is also higher.)

There are saturation points to all high-skill labor categories. At some point, there is no need for more physicists, attorneys, etc. because there simply isn't enough demand for their skills.

So education is not some sort of blanket panacea to a systemic surplus of labor.

There are many forms of labor that have so little value or the value is diffused to the point that no one will pay to have the work done.

Consider building a free bikeway. Since there is no income stream generated by the bikeway, no enterprise will pay for the bikeway. The city labor contracts require paying workers $75,000 each (or more, once all benefits and pension costs are included), and the diffused benefits to the city often do not justify this major expense.

As a result, the bikeway never gets built. The same applies to picking up litter throughout town; it isn't cost-effective to pay people $75,000 to pick up litter, but since there is no incomes stream, then private enterprise can't do it, either. So nobody does it, other than prisoners (community service) or random unpaid volunteers.

In other words, there is a lot of work that could be done or needs to get done that is not cost-effective for either the public or private sector.

The overpayment problem with this area lies with people being compensated at consultant rates on perm hours and yeoman/journeyman skillsets.

chicks were free.

Isn't it funny how men compare paychecks instead of testicles.
Money doesn't buy balls unless you are interested in sucking them.
You can suck mine for $999,999.99.

The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) administers the Housing Choice Voucher rental subsidy program (formerly known as the Section 8 Program) for Fairfax County and the cities or towns with which the county has agreements.

Household Size Maximum Household Income Limits-family of 4

Extremely Low (30%) $32,250

Very Low (50%) $53,750

Low (80%) $70,250

So, basically, any family (4 people) who has income less than $70,000, is eligible for a housing allowance from the county.

Build it and they will come...............

Budget challenges delay fire station opening

Construction of Wolf Trap Fire Station 42 is nearing completion, but budget constraints will likely prevent the station from being staffed until 2015.

However, due to the county’s tight budget picture for fiscal 2014, Station 42 will likely not be staffed for emergency operations until January 2015, about a year later than originally planned.

“It was just a calculated decision that had to be made to balance the budget,” said Deputy County Executive David Rohrer.

Opening the new station will cost about $4.2 million, including equipment and 29 additional staff positions, Rohrer said. Most of the large equipment has already been purchased and is in use at other stations now, he said.

Two grad degrees and 20+ years experience. I make $165K.
Where's the problem?

My wife. Engineering grad degree and 12 years experience.
$132K. Again, where's the problem?

OP, can you understand what "highly skilled" means?
It doesn't mean knowing how to work the fry station or
clean the Slurpee machine - tasks you're probably well
acquainted with and expecting high compensation for, right?

The problem is the chicks are not free anymore and most men lost their testicles for their so called career. Fellatio is part of the ladder of sucess in the region. When the salary is over $100,000 then ball licking is a daily activity.

You're probably right, but maybe they won't even let him
interact with customers. He's likely the guy who wipes
the tables and empties trash bins before heading to the
rest rooms with a mop.

He aspires to a job that doesn't involve a name tag or
a paper hat. That's why he's so angry here. Hopelessness
is a bitter pill.

I make $1000-$1200 a day 365 days a year via home based internet sales part time. Also work full time as well 65k. Between the 2 jobs I work my ass off 14 hr days.

Figure out a money maker, take some risks, work hard, save money and it will pan out for anyone.

I know there are many people who make way more than myself nor am I trying to brag but I have always saved money and think about the future and where I want to be.

People always want bigger and better around here. I drive a old car, live in a small house and dont spend money on frivolous things. One thing Im proud of is I don't make a dime off the federal government period. I dropped out of HS at 16 as well.

14 hours a day?? Holy Christ, why do you care about making that much money, you don't have ANY time to enjoy it.

You are going to wake up old one day and full of regret because you spent your entire life worrying about money and your "future"

Fact: One of the top 10 regrets older people have is that they spent so much time working.

No, I'm not poor, I have a great job that lets me buy whatever I need and I actually enjoy my life. If you need that much money to be "happy" you have some SERIOUS issues and need help.

Dawg, you make $1,000-$1,200 per day with part time internet sales?

That's somewhere between $200,000 and $365,000 per year.

Why would you also take a part time job for $65,000?

Wouldn't you either a) not work, or b) work more hours on that part time internet job, which seems pretty lucrative (more than that $65K job) to me...

Hmmmm....

My statement stands...if you enjoy working 14 hours a day you have issues, there's a lot more to life. Speaking of assumptions, when exactly did i mention getting plastered every weekend?

Between sleeping and working, you get an entire 2 hours a day of free time, and that's assuming you have no commute whatsoever. Hopefully you don't have a family, if you do i feel sorry for them. You would never even have time to go see a shrink. Addictions come in all forms, just something to think about.

Congrats, you wasted your only 2 hours of free time tonight on an internet forum, by the time you're 37 you'll have missed out on so much it won't matter that you're retired. I too, don't have a car payment or mortgage because i am smart enough to make plenty of money without having to work 14 hour days. Hell, someone making $10/hr can get by easy working that much. Enjoy jerking off as you look at your bank account while you sit in your house by yourself every night.

you could be dead at 37, your hard earned money will be spent by some other swinging dick who loves to party with your widowed wife who is more than happy to have a good time and spend the money you worked so hard for because everything has been boring.
I have seen this happen. take time to enjoy life, not looking at the numbers in your bank account.
I have seen so many people die young and wealthy and see the money just fly out with someone else.
congrats for your work attitude, nothing wrong with being proud of a nice bank account. however, The grim reaper is around every corner. Same goes for the swinging dick.

Different strokes for different folks. Some people truly enjoy working around the clock. That's their choice. Personally, I regret not allowing myself to have fun when I was young.

Everybody has to make their own choices in life - at least until you have kids. Then everything changes. It really helps if you have some flexibility in your viewpoint to deal with the challenges of having children. As Forrest Gump said...'life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get'. Whatever you get, it is your responsibility to put your kids well-being first - whatever sacrifice you have to make and whatever it costs.

Your money adds up to one final purchase.
Unless your family has the final decision. Then your cooked.
My body is worth about $2.68 at the current rate in chemicals and H2O.
What's your worth?

Preowned or used coffins. Sounds like a excellant start up business.
Recycle, renovate and resale every five years. Who needs a permanent coffin?
Low overhead and the previous tenant can't complain or sue.
People would die for one.
Remember the undertaker burying the bodies in his yard due to the shortage of coffins. Something like 47 bodies he charged full price for.
