DC Metro Church of Fairfax has gone off the deep end with road signs

Holy hell! Where Route 50 meets Old Ox has become the epicenter of road sign pollution. THe DC Metro Church of Fairfax has posted hundreds....yes, hundreds of illegal road signs in a half mile stretch of Old Ox in front of the Fairfax Towne Centre shopping area.
I have never seen such insane sign posting before! Anyone else notice it?

I saw them. You ain't kidding about the sign abuse. That's gonna cause an accident! Not only are they all over the shoulder and median strip but they are place every 3 feet along the exit ramp, distracting you from seeing the merging traffic.
I've never called to complain about stuff like this before but I just did. Just learned VDOT has someone manning the phones 24/7 and they take this stuff seriously.
Who do I call to complain about a sign in the state rights-of-way?
Call the Virginia Department of Transportation at 703-383-8368, TTY 711. The Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner is responsible for enforcing the provisions of Va. Code Ann. ยง 33.1-373, which prohibits the placing of advertisements in the state rights-of-way.

Signs were gone by Monday. I'm not sure if the church received enough negative feedback and removed them or if VDOT did it. I kinda hope VDOT did it and sent an invoice to the shitty mega church.

This area has a real problem with sign pollution. I wish our local government had the manpower to effectively enforce the law - remove the illegal signs promptly and fine the offenders.
I remember going into Arlington late October and was FLOORED by the difference between the two counties - we still looked normal whereas Arlington looked like an Eastern European marketplace (like it doesnt normally, Gordo LoLz) with all the signs around.
Anywho, I rip on the guy alot, but I'm gonna give him props on this one cause he did get this sh*t done, and last year's election cycle proved it to me
wanna see some real estate guy get all butthurt about the County going after the signs he fucking up the neighborhood with, but not be man enough to admit WHY he's all butthurt about it?

The funniest part of this whole thing is that there are a bunch of adults whining like little kids about signs. Instead of doing something productive, you go online and complain. Good job fellas. You showed them. You obviously must be bored, alone and have absolutely nothing better to do with your time than bad mouth a church who is involved in the Fairfax community. Before you criticize the church and their beliefs, how about you do your research and see what they have done for the community and most of all how much love they have for the community. Yes, even YOU who have no respect for the church and God, the church still loves you. So, if the signs stand out to you so much, take the hint and go to church.

I did do something. Back in February, Two of my neighbors and I pulled about 40 of their obnoxious signs out of my neighborhood and tossed them into an apartment complex dumpster.

Dafuq? The signs stood out because they were a traffic hazard and showed that the church didn't give a flying fuck about the community. All they cared about was promoting their services and getting more brainwashed, insecure idiots to join.

When a church becomes so large that is has multiple locations and TV broadcasts, it no longer serves the purpose of what a church is supposed to be - a group of like-minded citizens that find comfort in GOd with each other.
Rather, a mega-church like DC Metro is much like a city with great diversity and complex relationships. There is a lack of cohesiveness and unionism. It is nothing more than a profit-earning business.

Nothing wrong with VDOT road signs. Signs that are installed illegally because a business doesn't want to pay for legitimate and costly advertisign is another thing.

I have to say that cheap cardboard road signs are a real turn-off for me.
From a marketing standpoint, if a bunch of cardboard signs p!ss-off a bunch of young neo-pagan non-church going hipsters who live in their parents basements, no one really cares.
But I am a fundamentalist, and new to the area, and I was looking for a church. But if I see its name plastered on a bunch of cheap cardboard signs, I figure that its a new start-up church that is desperate and has bad judgement, and I probably won't even visit. And from a marketing point of view - that's really counter-productive for them.

What kind of NUT goes to a church based on a sign?
Answer, the likes of "church planter" and Boosterthon founder, Chris Carneal. He probably has signs for the "First Church of Booster" in some Atlanta suburb.
Their location in Old Town was forced to remove a sign on the back of the building facing metro rail. Some people on metro are offended by a organization promoting truth and complained ... turns out they took it down b/c the city has made recent rules, that such signs are not permitted. At least they complied with the ordinance.
