It's a done deal - sales taxes are going up statewide. 5.3% up from 5% everywhere, and a whopping 6% in Northern Viginia and Hampton Roads!

exactly, its not gone, just replaced with the wholesale tax. Additionally, it says that people will be paying on average 15 dollars more.
this 3.5% will probably be charged to the local buyer (gas station) then the owner of that station will change more to reflect that cost.

Fairfax will create its own transportation department to waste, I mean spend, all those millions coming in. It will require many friends and relatives of Fairfax officials to be placed in high paying useless positions. For every dollar going to actually repair the roads two dollars will go to pay all the govt workers to meddle in the projects.

And what makes you think they won't split this tax or use the revenue for something entirely different? The gas tax is not being eliminated so this is just additional revenue. I wish it was 6% statewide. Sales tax is the best tax. People like me pay less taxes because we are frugal. Growing your own veggies and hanging clothes out to dry are a couple of fun, easy ways to save money. Making bio-diesel for my Volkswagon TDI is fun also.

Didnt you people learn anything from the last election. Its not your money to begin with its the governments. They determine how much you will keep and how much they will take. Nova gets screwed over as usual. If we could get our fair share of state taxes instead of supporting the rest of the hick state then we would not have a road issue here. It's bullshit that we get taxed more. Give us our fair share then if another part of the state comes up short they can raise their own taxes. We only get back 11 cents on every dollar we send south.

What road issue?
That's the part I don't get. All I hear is that the new taxes are necessary because of all the lousy roads and "crumbling infrastructure" but I just don't see it. And traffic in Nova is still going to be bad regardless of how many roads you build.
I literally drove all over the damn state in the last year: Northern VA, Richmond, Tidewater, Charlottesville, Roanoke and overall the roads were perfectly fine. As as matter of fact I'd say the roads in VA are markedly better than the roads in our neighboring states. And significantly better than the roads in Maryland and DC, its night and day.
So can somebody fill me on the roots of this "transportation crisis"?
