Hey does anyone know where I can find any bamboo plants that I can take a few stalks from to put in my yard. It is generally looked at as evsaive and not from here so most parks and stuff kill it. I need to cover up an area from the Parkway....not dead illegals or Jerry "the cocksucker" Connelys gay sexslave

Evasive huh? lol Guess that's why you're having a hard time finding it.

It's INvasive. And don't do it unless you want it forever cause you'll have a hell of a time getting rid of it once it's established. Took me 20 years to kill off some a neighbor planted and it still pops up here and there.

Yeah, don't do it. It looks out of place and never goes away.

Dont do it, I spent almost 10 years removing it from my back yard and its still trying to come back. Get a leyland cypress or somthing from home depot, they are cheap and probably grow just as fast.

Ditto on the "stay away" comments. You do NOT want that in your yard. It's nearly impossible to kill off if you ever want to take it out. They say you can corral it if you plant solid sub-grade "borders" like sheet metal all around the area you want to isolate, but it's got to go down about 24" and it's not foolproof.l

Hay Zeus is pretty spot on with the Leyland Cyrpus. Once they take root (about the 3rd year), they grow fast, like 2 -3 feet per year fast. I finally got tired of trimming the one at the corner of my house every year and ripped that thing out.

I have a few different species going. Species vary a lot in how fast then run/spread. I sort of wish I hadn't planted the Yellow Groove variety, because it is like a virus, spreads much faster than say Moso. I have some though if you want it. You'll probably never get rid of it. Yellow Groove is the best for screens too because the canes grow only 3" apart so only squirrels etc can get through.

How do you transplant it?
I borrowed some from down the street...but can't get it to grow

I've tried several times with no luck.

You need to dig a piece from the edge of the grove where it is still expanding. You don't need any canes just a big piece of nice new rhizome. The rhizome will have the most energy stored in the fall after it's had all summer to fill up, so dig it up then, or early in the spring before shooting happens. Like in march. Make sure the rhizome is kept moist and not buried too deep, just 4-5 inches is enough. I wouldn't plant yellow groove since it is crazy how fast it spreads and only reaches like 2.5 inches at maturity. If you plant Moso it spreads slower and gets bigger more attractive canes. Like 12" diameter and 130' high in China. I had to order mine on eBay since nobody around here grows it, everybody just grows yellow groove or golden bamboo since they make an excellent and fast screen but look ratty IMO.

Hey ricky, don't do that, it's a show. Planting that hurting bamboo is a sure way to get your silly neighbors to kill you and burn your money metal house down, donk.

Borgata.

My house had bamboo growing in the back, I chopped it down and dumped a bunch of salt on the area, never came back. Was a bit of a bitch cutting all them down but I was younger and had the energy and free time.
