Oh man...what happened to Chesapeake Bay Seafood House? As a 10-year-old, I remember eating 9 servings of the all-you-can-eat baby gulf shrimp after a soccer game.

Good times.

The Capitol Center and the old 930 club, Old WHFS @ 102.3 FM. The original first HFS-tival the first two were at Lake Fairfax. Driving to Rockets in Richmond for the good times. AU was a real party school and everyone was welcome.

Seeing John Waters movies when nobody cared who he was. Merriweather was the only place to see a show during the summer.

Oliver North running for Congress (OK, that was 1994) and being scared cause he might have won.

Fawn Hall - were we that stupid?

The Air Florida crash. I remember how cold the day was and the wet, freezing snow. Those poor souls in the river.

Ummm, I think it's a veiled reference to the fact that teenagers in Fairfax were mostly all-American kids in the 80's, which is true, and in stark contrast to today.

Vienna/Tyson's area:

Mall hair - the higher the better.

That restaurant near the Tyson's movie theaters that never carded us for beer.

Four-wheeling at the Tyson's pits (now the Tyson's II area), then later getting wasted at the bonfires there. (Remember the time the FFX police used their new helicopter to try to bust us?)

Drag racing on Rte. 7.

Making out to Journey and REO Speedwagon on the radio, and at the same time calling them gay.

High's Dairy that sold cheap smokes.

"Cruising" Rte. 123 - hanging out at the Madison McDonald's, the mid-town 7/11, and getting chased out of both by the Vienna cops.

Vienna police measuring the rear-end height and the tires of my boyfriend's car.

Safeway and Dart Drug at the Cedar Park Shopping Center.

Cedar Lane Elementary, before it was Cedar Lane School.

Penguin Feather and Spencer's gifts for bongs and rolling papers.

I remember Doubt, but that's about all. there's a myspace page that sorta refers to them in a broader context of talking about the reston hardcore scene, which actually was quite dense for a while. Back when I was still willing to entertain the sXe lifestyle I would hang with a lot of folks in the "scene". I am one of those guys who picks the scene of the month and just dives right in.

Wow that picture of Lake Audubon brings back memories. All the kids at South Lakes use to swim out to that drain and then lay out sun bathing with the cheerleaders in bikinis. They finally put those stupid jagged rocks on top of drain so it was uncomfortable to lay out there.

Late at night we use go skinny dipping in the lakes and Reston pools. Loved the hot tub at the one pool. The police would always show up and boot us. Oh the good old days at South Lakes.

Getting a "National ID" that said I was 21 so I could buy MGD at 7-11. They were sold at the Royal Video store near Wisconsin and O in Georgetown. You had to walk through the Porn section in back to get your picture and thumb print taken. All you had to do was sign a form that said your birthday was whatever and they would make you the ID. Suprisingly it actually worked!

Does anyone know if it is still there?

Bobby Poe! Wow! It's all a blurr!

In the 80’s, Crowded House concert poolside at the Sheraton Premiere in Tyson's Corner. Jane Wiedlin of the Go Go’ s at the Saturday lunch BBQ! Partying with Mr. James Brown and David Cassidy in the same suite. Bruce Hornsby as the hotel lounge piano player for hours. Don and Mike turning on porn on the Westwood One suite’s TV. Who was it that wrecked the WAVA jeep in the parking lot?

I THINK Panorama was gone by the 80s. I think Maurey hosted a news program on channel 5 in 1983, but Panorama had been long gone bu that time.

Wonderama was a weekend kids show produced by Metromedia, which as a television station group, sold to what became Fox in the mid 80's. It was recorded at the WNEW studios in Manhattan. Ventriloquist and Baltimore native Bob McAllister hosted it from 1967 to 1979. It had kids games, entertainment, and celebrity interviews. Sadly, in 1979, Bob bought an add in the New York Times asking people not to watch the show because WNEW had an inserted a movie commercial he objected to. The show was soon cancelled in first runs. About two years later, WNEW TV moved locations, and all the tapes of Wonderama in the library were dumped into the East River, so, there is not much left for TV historians to go over.

Wonderama gave interviews with stars of the day kids would know, and actually had a rare TV performance of ABBA, who, at the time, did not do much TV. The then unknown on these shores cast of Monty Python also appeared and were interviewed. The Jackson 5 appeared as well as young John Travolta, Tatum Oneil, and Jodie Foster with her brother Buddy.

Bob McAllister ended up performing at bowling alleys and birthday parties after the cancellation.

They most certainly did film in a drug store in Alexandria. Didn't make the final cut, but they did film a scene there. Also, the short lived "lime Street" with Robert Wagner was filmed in DC and Virgina in the 80's.

Sadly, after Wonderama was cancelled in 1979, All the tapes of the show were dumped into the East River, and Bob McAllister ended up performing at bowling alleys and birthday parties.

It is true. Scott Woodside of "Elliot and Woodside in the Morning" was an extra in several scenes of St Elmos Fire. One story he told on the air is him placing a Q107 bumper sticker near the phone booth in the bar when no one was looking. The bumper sticker is clearly visible in the movie.

I do remember him talking about a drug store scene in Alexandria or Arlington. But if FUN thinks it was Alexandria, it probably was.

I am so glad this thread has evolved from sharing some fond memories to calling eachother a doucebag and wishing ill on children and mothers.

I remember the call sheet for the Alexandria shoot. It involved taking a taxi and buying condoms. The only thing I can figure is they removed the scene to secure not getting R rated. Boy, have times changed.

Dumped in the East River?? Wow is that dramatic! I don't think the show had serious historical value, but it's pretty awful to destroy all records of anything.

I'd forgotten about Metromedia, I guess they were like the 4th network back then, but I don't remember if they had national reach...

I was there!but didn't make it into the video :(
Priest was better when I saw 'em (w/ Paul D'Annio's last tour w/ Iron Maiden opening!) in July of 81. It rained like hell that night and there was a long delay semi power outage- all the lights went out during the intro to "Diamond and Rust". The sound men played AC/DC 's Back in Black album 2x before the power was restored- Priest started D&R all over again and slayed!

Yes they did. So did Meat Loaf on the Bat out of Hell Tour.

Oh and rumor has it that the Little Feat album Waiting for Colubus was partially recorded there too. But Cerph would know better than I would. I knew a DJ in the 70s who always swore to that.

There used to be a roller rink north of Old Town, the city wasn't nearly as yuppied up or gentrified as it is now. I've heard different reports the show played/the show was cancelled. All I know is that show or no show it seems a very unlikely place for a historic punk show...

Cerphe does the introduction on the Waiting for Columbus album, the show was recorded at Lisner in GWU and partially in the U.K

Yes, according to the Liner notes. I am just saying what I was told by someone who would know. It may have been a business decission. Would you want "Recorded live on stage at the Alexandria Roller Rink" on your record?

I can't find anything about the Sex Pistols playing in Alexandria, not even on their official website. I find no mention of it on the internet at all.
I am not doubting that it happened, I used to work with a guy that saw Black Sabbath play at that Roller Rink in Alexandria. I am sure the Pistols did a few unofficial shows here and there while on there U.S. tour.
