Just wondering what that thing on the Huntsman Lake dam is. It sort of looks like a mini cell tower, but I know it's not the case. Plus WASA or whomever built a platform with solar panel. Anyone got a clue? I can't info anywhere on the 3w.

Is it a runoff if the water gets too high?

Yes its a Overflow, also has a gate at the base to drain the lake if needed from the bottom and water will run over the top and dump. All the man made lakes have them, The metal post is the actuator to open the gate at the base, if you stand on the Dam you will see the pipe at the base on the other side usually 30 - 40 feet below the surface of the water.

am sure with the technology today, Solar runs communication software to alert the COE or FXCO of a substantial rise where they send a crew out or maybe can Electronically operate the relief valves. The base pipe is 36" I think so you can figure what type of water can spill out per minute. In Lake Braddock it would get clogged or blocked usually by Trash cans floating in the lake then it would flood, Hurricane Diane in the 80's flooded Lake Braddock buy like 6 feet, then if that happens the Gully or Spillway usually off to one side allows channeled run off before it get to the houses.

all 8 dams where placed into the system to prevent the Pohick Creek from flooding out Burke like it did many moons ago. The county has the list, but Lake Braddock, Barton, East lake, Huntsman and the others where built for that purpose. a few are privately owned by the HOA's others are the counties. Huntsman is Fairfax county Park authority, Braddock is Private. Not sure about the rest.

Hey thanks Burke Brat for the hunting down the information. Do you know what they're doing on Old Keene Mill between Hillside and Huntsman? I figure the ground underneath may be eroding away.

I have been wondering about that as well, Derf.

not sure we drive past it every day, the have dug a trench, placed something in it, and used concrete, I think it is to go along with the bridge work they did along the seams in the median. it is all together, they replaced the light posts at huntsman, and sidewalk, then ran it to the Bridge on both sides of the road.

I can only imagine that maybe they are Tie Backs Not sure about Bridge Construction but maybe they help hold it in inline.
