it's pretty much all the sunoco gas stations it takes forever if you're pay with credit card it's pain in the ass on cold days they gotta come up with something faster.

Aren't most gas stations that have pay-at-the-pump similar? I know the Shell I go is the same--even more questions when you're using your Giant Food points.

Shell has that fucking TV Blasting with a bunch of babble..They should have Motorhead cranking Ace of spades or something other than an endless fucking blasting commercial.

The one thing I don't mind is punching in my zip code. I imagine that seriously impacts the folks trying to use a stolen (or found) credit card. Sunoco used to do it, Shell does now. They all should.


But yeah, I don't want commercials on a blaring TV. I don't want attempts to upsell (car washes, etc). And put the receipt question at the end. Either press yes, I want a receipt, or hang up the nozzle if you don't.

The West Ox Sunoco asks the following 5 questions...

It's really not that big of a deal. They ask those questions while the transaction is being authorized. So you either can stand around while your card is being verified, or you can answer a few somewhat pertinent questions while you wait. I haven't seen an "Authorizing Transaction" message ever since they changed it over at my Sunoco.

Hm. I still see it at times. And some of the questions are just sloppy programming: I use an AmEx, so "Credit or debit?" is dumb. Sunoco isn't alone here, though -- Shell is just as bad, especially if you're using Giant points with a phone number!

look, if yr using the pump, the gas station has NO WAY to prove the signature on the back is yours, now does it? So they ask you for the zip code, which they can do as long as there is no face-to-face transaction going on. Some gas pumps dont ask, but they are not asking, then the station is paying the credit card company more $$$ for that transaction.

Which station? Every time I've tried paying cash, there was a line of 15 beaners buying lottery tickets and Coronas.

While the number of questions is aggravating enough, it is the time it takes to "process" the yes/no input to get to the next screen/question that aggravates me the most. It is like the yes/no response has to be sent through a network that circumnavigates the globe about 500 times to get to a decision processing system, and then back, before giving the next question/prompt!

While paying cash seems like a slower option, these pump scripts make me think twice.

I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Fing Sunoco is BS with all the questions, spend more time answering that crap than pumping gas (small tank)

Yeah, they're slow as heck. While waiting for a response at a Shell yesterday, I noticed not one but two dishes on their roof -- different carriers, both known data providers. I wonder if they're using satellite Internet, increasing latency significantly...

Exactly. It is the lag time that kills me. When you press yes or no and it seems to be thinking about it before displaying the next prompt. Fuck that. It should be immediate. I end up pressing the key like 5-6 times with each prompt out of annoyance because it is so slow I'm wondering if it registered my input.

I hate those tv's. Its late and I mean late at night after a few drinks. I do the credit card thing and as my groggy ass is trying to put the nozzle in when a blast of audio goes off behind me telling me to see Argo or what todays weather is. I should be used to it but it still makes me jump.

Watch how you answer those prompts or you may add a ten dollar car wash to your bill
