wow i hope they dont use the same metro bus drivers that drive around fairfax. They merge without looking, run red lights,ect.... I think these are way to big for places like fairfax circle that are already conjested with tons of traffic

They are probably a European design.

Metro has had articulated buses before....M.A.N.s built in Germany.

I don't know for sure, but articulated buses may be more maneuverable in close quarters than long-ass straight buses.
