That's because Maryland is a shithole. Get your catalytic converter fixed so we don't have to smell rotten eggs during our commute.

That trick used to work back in the day, but now with the OBD2 scanner and it being relayed electronically to DMV, its hard to get past it.

Cats are pretty cheap online, pay the $100 and get it legit, go pass emissions, then take it back off if you want. Or go register in Stafford/Spotsylvania or further south where you don't need emissions!

no i have a cat on it i put it a while ago cause a straight pipe was too lound and obnoxious so i put a cat so that works 100% so my car has a nice growl to it like a g35 but im just wondering if anyone has passed with an aftermarket cat-back exhuast or would i get shot down? and my smoked read tail lights are smoked but can clearly see them when i brake and see them clearly in the day when i have my headlights turned on.

yeah i was thinking i might for that too but its not like horribly tinted i put like two coats of night shade so it looks black but is acutally like a dark dark ruby if that makes sense you can see the red in the taillights amber of turning signals and white of reverse lights

Just to support what others have said...Emissions tests are objective. They hook up your car to the testing machine, they run the test, you pass or your don't and the results are communicated to the DMV.

You have 3 options now...

1) Keep all your OEM equipment and come testing day...bolt it all back on and pass.

2) Don't modify the exhaust system.

3) Put aftermarket exhaust components on your car and let it sit until such time that it's old enough that an emissions test is no longer required.

As for your smoked tail light covers...You do realize that the state requires them to be red and visible for a reason, right? Don't get me wrong...smoked lenses are indeed cool but, how cool are they going to look when some blue hair hammers you from behind in their 76 Monte Carlo because they couldn't see your tail lights so they didn't know you were stopping?

I think another option is to stay in Maryland where people with a liking for this style of car are more common.

Look for any Latino mechanic working out of a parking lot or field with signs pointing the way to it in Spanish. Or take a trip to any garage in Tennessee, but you won't be allowed to bring the car back over the Virginia border again, even if they pass it in Tennessee and you register it there. Why not just put that grease money down on a new(er) car instead?

taking it to tennesse is doing the most, anyways i dont want it to put it down cause i have so many fond memories in it, im not paying monthly for it, its mechanicly sound no engine lights on purrs like a kitty, and i was asking if theres any leniant mechnic shops that wouldnt worry about the exhuast or petty things like that.

Tape a twenty dollar bill to the back of your registration title. Hand the title to dude. Tell him "Here's everything you need. And have a good lunch whenever you do." Presto, digito. Wait twenty minutes. You pass.

Seriously, with OBD2 there isn't a whole lot that can be done. We have modified a Toyota a little and it will still pass Virginia emissions inspection. The modified Buick will not and we have to swap out the OEM before going. The worst that can happen is you take it and it doesn't pass. Then you know what needs to be done.

The window tint may be a different story. Front windshield and both drivers and passengers front windows need to be seen into. The fine is pretty steep unless you go to court after removing tint and get a resonable judge. Then you usually only have to pay court costs.

Mostly it will depend on what of emissions you wish to pass, such as nocturnal emissions usually cause no problems

Have the exact same problem, except mine has no mods, no repairs needed, and does not have a check engine (MIL) lit. Just a problem completing the drive cycle. If anyone could point to the right direction it would be appreciated.

I will tell you a little trick that will help you pass the test..

1. go and drive the shit out of it like you stole it!
2. Put in some fuel injector cleaner and octane booster
3. Fill tank with primo GAS
4. Go and drive the shit out of it like you stole it.
5. Change the oil and ride that b*tch like she owes you money!!!
6. Before you go get it tested let the windows down Crank up the radio
and drive that b*tch hard.
7. Before you get to emissions place take a litte detour and wind it all the way out and drive that b*tch right into the river!! Problem solved!!

Congress isn't good with that whole unintended consequences thing. Yet, we keep trusting them.
