The VG2 is old. All the kool kops these days use a SpectreIV or a Spectre Elite.

Any amount of money you'd care to name. However, I know you don't have it and would never pay up even if you did.

LOL vg2 is old school, they have spectres nowadays. If you want a detector in va it has to be a Escort redline, Beltronics sti-d, or beltronics stir +. Those are 100% undetectable and work great, they will cost you a few hundred but worth every penny. I have an stir+ with quad laser interceptors, never had any issues with cops noticing them. If your buying a detector you need a pair of Laser interceptors or else its pretty useless, as LIDAR is becoming a lot more popular.

radar/laser detectors are useless. by the time you realize im there, i already have your speed and am waiting for you to pass to pull you over. by the way, if you get caught, thats another ticket im going to write you, and take your detector to be destroyed after you lose the case in court.

Laser detectors are useless, yes. Laser jammers and radar detectors, are very useful, especially in VA. The cops around here can't shoot I/O radar very well compared to out of state cops who know how to operate I/O and to effectively reduce their emissions. Radar detectors are not that common nowadays, and even less popular in VA, so the cops don't have to worry about defeating them which makes it better for those who do use them in VA. They all might as well leave it on C/O which is what most already do. VA also has pretty lax laws on jammers, in some states its a misdemeanor in VA its a $60 ticket, no points or anything. They are not allowed to confiscate the detector either, they can take it for court use, but they give it back after. On 66/495 I can usually get a good 2 - 4 miles of detection depending on the frequency and band being used, plenty of time to slow down. But even then, it is very important to always have a rabbit when speeding. County cops usually pace and use LIDAR, so constantly check your mirrors and make sure your jammers are set up properly.

I/O - instant on
C/O - constant on

Great post. Cops are so smug about catching the people they do, but they have no idea about the people that are beating them.

Well aren't you proud of yourself. Although we're one of few states in the union that deems our right to detect what's being pointed at us illegal. Congrats, your a cop from no detector land. Be proud. Tell ya, you'd think a cop wouldn't show off enforcing a law other states enforce.

Like it or not, a radar detector is a radio receiver that receives a specific range of frequencies. For Virginia (and D.C.) to ban them puts those jurisdictions is a unique group of political entities. Mostly totalatarian dictatorships that don't (or didn't, as some are in the dustbin of history) people receiving signals transmitted on those frequencies...

Radar detector don't work anyways. You get to many false positives. The one time it really is a cop. It's to late. Complete waste of money. Your better off buying those photo films that prevents red light cameras taking pictures of your tag. Radar detectors also give a false sense of security. WASTE!

While driving at or below the posted speed limit is the best way to avoid a speeding ticket, the enforcement standards are all over the place in this goofy Commonwealth. I have been using a radar detector for over a decade and they are quite useful. Many of the independent city, town, and county cops are still using radar equipment that is 20 years old and very easy to detect. I am still using a 10 year old Uniden detector and it works well against the old technology radar units. It is V2 stealthy to 2 meters. LIDAR is only being used in the Golden Cresent of Virginia - I have never had the laser sensor go off in my part of the state. With so many people having GPS units the cops don't even bother looking for radar detectors. Mine is just above my GPS.

Someone speeding ahead of you. You follow him at his speed. The cops'll get him, not you.

Yeah, radar detectives are so useless and ineffective that Virginia bans them and spends energy to track them down. Afterall, the Commonwealth wouldn't want its hapless citizens using an ineffective device, lol!

If you drive through Fairfax City at all, a radar detector is worth its weight in gold.

KA BAND!! Multiple sources detected, 34.7, 35.5, front back, side.

Those city cops love their radar.

It's actually quite hilarious that someone mentioned "you don't have to be the smartest, you just can't be the dumbest"...... and ALL of the people on here that disagree with detectors (whether it be cop or civilian) have absolutely no grasp on grammar (ie: knowing when to use your vs you're, and "to late" in lieu of "too late").

Just be smart - if you're going to spend 500 on a passport... make sure your brakes and tires are in order, and have some self control. And for god sakes, there is a time and a place... not weaving in 5 oclock traffic.

But for real Virginia (lawmakers not Troopers/officers(you guys are great, and people don't give you enough credit for all you do for safety AND really seem to have low appreciate for everything you guys do to keep 495 and 66 moving at all with all the fools out)? We've some stupid laws. Window tint? I get the safety aspect for officers, but there are better ways to do this. But, if you're going to be the person to have the dark windows, at least be respectful and turn your dome light on/roll down the back window as well.

Maybe instead of stupid and strict rules, we should just teach people how not to be idiots, and how to be considerate of others, before we give them licenses...

Most people here don't have cars that can roll down their back windows
Most people here don't care about grammar

your your V2 is from china (or relabeled in mexico - and is from china)

the radar detector is from china

so they have the plans for both and stagger releases

-------------------------
meanwhile Motorola has sold your police communication technology to the chinese during obama administration

which they SAID "is old military technolgy no one needs"

(no one needs - but they aren't giving me the plans are they ?)

1 - If the goal is TRULY to slow the traffic and not simply generate revenue, perhaps legalize radar detectors and install radar emitters in random locations. Detectors alert, drivers slow.
2 - I believe more enforcement effort should go toward ending actual bad driving, e.g. motorists cutting other motorists off, "left-lane-loafers", last-minute maneuvers, etc. Virginia has low speed limits versus essentially every other state - "speeding" here is driving everywhere else.
3 - Finally, it's "for God's sake", not "for god sakes".
