What is up with all the complaints about no black coaches being hired in the NFL? So just because your black you should get a job? We must have a balance of black and white coaches? What ever happened about hiring the BEST guy for the job?

Damn you. If affirmative action is good enough for president of these united states, it's good enough for the NF of L.

Since the Rooney Rule is in affect, the NFL should begin to back the Jack Kent Cooke Rule - Here is the proposal: Each NFL Team must draft one white guy within the first two rounds. A spanish and asian guy within the first five rounds. This is in essence the same thing as the Rooney Rule for coaches.

As of January 5, 2013, there were three African-American coaches in charge of National Football League teams:

Marvin Lewis, Cincinnati Bengals (entering 11th season).
Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers (entering seventh season).
Leslie Frazier, Minnesota Vikings (entering third season).

Has this changed?

Not exactly -- the Rooney Rule doesn't require teams to hire minority coaches, only that they interview them.

I'M A FIVE-STAR MAN!!

Why does the liberal media hype up and spin things that people say?

Howard Cossell said "look at that little monkey go". Result- He was fired for making a perfecly good analogy based on Charlie Brown's phisique-i.e. long arms and short in stature

Rush Limbaugh said "Donovan Mcnabb is overrated because there is a need to have a black quarterback be great". Result- he was fired for making an accurate statement. Donovan actually sucked as a quarterback and was a liability to the eagles for many years and then also to the Redskins. If Donovan had been white he'd have been released by the eagles long ago.

Answer to above question. Because the liberal media is made up of a collection of racists. In fact most racism today is created and propogated by liberals. Affirmative action is in effect racism and a nasty insult to blacks. It infers that you blacks are not talented enough or smart enough to get the job without a law mandating so. Think how the quality of play would fall in the NBA if affirmative action required teams to be at least 40% white.

" It infers that you blacks are not talented enough or smart enough to get the job without a law mandating so."

There's a difference between infer and imply. They are not interchangeable.

I wasn't changing the discussion. I was making your point coherent.

The best way to remember the difference between these two words is to think in terms of the model used by communications theorists. Communication consists of a message, a sender, and a receiver. The sender can imply, but the receiver can only infer. The error that usually occurs is that the word infer is mistakenly used for imply.

WRONG: Are you inferring that I am a fool?
RIGHT: Are you implying that I am a fool?

If someone gets the idea from your behavior that you are a fool, then he is inferring that you are a fool. But if he is subtly letting you know that he thinks so, then he is implying that you are a fool. You, of course, can infer from his implication that he thinks you are a fool.

IMPLY = to put the suggestion into the message (sender implies)

INFER = to take the suggestion out of the message (receiver infers)

IMPLICATION = what the sender has implied

INFERENCE = what the receiver has inferred

Consideration. I thought that was the basis of the rule. Black coaches weren't being considered. Not like black coaches can't win SB. Tomlin and Dungy did it.

Funny the the rule is named after the Steelers owner considering their fans are a bunch racist inbreds.

Only 14% of the population is black.

I would guess that 65% of the NFL players are black. If it was a racist league that would not be the case, right?

Second, this begs the question where is the outcry for a Rooney rule for caucasian players??? Caucasian's are 85% of the population but only 35% of the league. Under the Rooney rule logic, this must be discrimiation, right????

If not, tell me why it's different???

So are you implying that a sender can't infer anything? I haven't been able to wrap my tiny little pea brain around that one yet! I guess I'm too stupid to live.

I was the receiver of the principal of affirmative action, so I inferred what was implied

Priapus- actually thanks for explaining your point so well. I can use all the help at my disposal to not make rudimentary gramatical errors.

liberal media people, wake up, there is an agenda of reparations!!!!

It is a joke. So if a team wants a certain coach they feel is perfect for their team and he happens to be white, they still have to interview a minority??. Seems holding a bogus interview just to check some box is pathetic. Suppose you are the minority and you are sitting there thinking, Do they really want to hire me, or I am just a pawn to satisfy the Rooney rule. That's the first question I would ask, just to save everyone's time if I am a checkbox.

Should the team only have to interview a black candidate? What about Latino, Asian, American Indian, multiracial etc. just one, or should it be one from each group to be "fair". I was an owner, I would hire the best coach available no matter what the person's race is.

Donovan McNabb did not suck. He went to five NFC championship games and played in as many Superbowl Games as Dan Marino and more than Hall of Famers Dan Fouts and Sonny Jurgenson.

As for coaches, Jim Caldwell has coached in more Suoer Bowls than Rex Ryan, Norv Turner and Wade Philips, yet those asshats end up being head coaches way more often than they deserve.

Donovan McNabb was helped out by his defense. He was an above-average quarterback, but not the "elite" quarterback that some would have you believe. Dan Fouts and Sonny Jurgenson were elite.

Jim Caldwell had one huge advantage that neither Ryan, Turner, nor Philips had. His name was Peyton Manning.

The Rooney rule tries to help by insuring a minority candidate gets an interview. However, it has opened the proverbial Pandora's box, because everything else is now under scrutiny. Where does Ron Rivera of Carolina fall in this discussion? Remember, Dennis Green refused to join the Black Coaches association. DG spoke publicly against the Rooney rule, because he said teams would go down an alphabetical list of black names and they would never get to the letter G.

Here is an excerpt from an interview with Dan Rooney this past fall. He makes a point that has been overlooked by numerous folks and has not been addressed by the liberal media.
>>> As of 2013, only four African Americans hold general manager titles: Ozzie Newsome of the Baltimore Ravens, the first in NFL history; Jerry Reese, architect of two New York Giants Super Bowl title teams in five seasons; Martin Mayhew of the Detroit Lions; Rod Graves of the Arizona Cardinals and Reggie McKenzie of the Oakland Raiders.

It’s a truly puzzling reality that there are currently more Black GMs than Black head coaches, but maybe even more puzzling is that none of the current Black GMs has ever hired an African-American head coach.

I carefully use the term puzzling because that’s only way to describe such a reality. It’s hard to call it racism, because I don’t believe any of these Black men displayed racial discrimination against another Black man during the hunt for head coaches.

Perhaps the same can be said about the White general managers of the NFL. Although most of them may not have hired any Black head coaches, that shouldn’t be mistaken for racism.<<<
