Monday, Jan. 21, will be the public inaugural ceremonies for the 57th Presidential Inauguration.
We’re asking that if you plan to travel to the District of Columbia for any of the events — or have to travel to D.C. for work — to take common-sense steps to prepare for the event.
The closer you live to or work in D.C. will increase the potential impacts you may experience due to the inaugural activities. Residents and visitors to D.C. and the inauguration are encouraged to consider to make a plan, stay informed and be prepared. There are lots of information resources for inauguration weekend, providing news and tips about travel, transit, weather and more. Visit inauguration.dc.gov, D.C.’s Presidential Inauguration website, for more.
Next Monday is also a holiday — Martin Luther King Jr. Day — which means county government offices will be closed, including courts, as well as public schools. However, Park Authority RECenters will be open normal hours, it is a regular collection day for county trash and recycling and the Fairfax Connector will operate on a modified schedule.
In addition, numerous county staff will be on duty, including public safety personnel, as well as staffing the county’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC). From the EOC, staffers will be working to support the inauguration by monitoring traffic and transportation, coordinating with VDOT to watch area roadways, etc. The EOC is also hosting the state’s multi-agency command center and joint information center for the weekend.
Inaugural activities will take place beginning on Sunday, Jan. 20, through Monday, Jan. 21, with the public inaugural ceremonies scheduled for Monday, Jan. 21.
