Car rejected for Bull Shit state inspection
Posted by: yum ()
Date: January 12, 2013 03:35PM

Went to a dealership, mistake number one......always looking for money....

Brought my car for state inspection, and it gets rejected. The technician said it was something with the joint of the muffler.

If I take off the rejecting sticker and bring it to another state inspection place is there a computer system where they would know why it got rejected?

Probably, but just try it anyways. The worst that'll happen is they make you fix the muffler thingy that the dealership tried to scam you with.

Take it to Lee Auto Center in Centreville, behind the Blue Max gas station (13616 Lee Highway, Centreville, VA 20120). They are very reasonable.

Hey OP...so, you're in an accident and after the accident you find out the car that hit you had faulty brakes but, because the accident occurred in a state where there is no vehicle inspection...there was an accident. Oh...and did I mention, you're now dead as a result of the person plowing into you with faulty brakes?

Driving is the most dangerous thing that most but not all people do on an everyday basis. States like VA with an annual vehicle inspection are trying to keep the roadways as safe as possible by making sure car owners are keeping their vehicles in proper working order. Or...in your case, to insure that the air isn't being polluted unnecessarily due to your broken exhaust joint.

Does it suck? Yes. Is it an inconvenience? Yes. But, a broken exhaust joint might cause the exhaust to go into the interior of your car. It's the black death...the silent killer...the last thing you'll remember is wondering why you were so tired after a full night's sleep on your way to work before bam!...you plow into a soccer mom in her minivan on her cell phone and kill her 6 kids because the leaking fumes caused you to black out. All because of an inexpensive exhaust repair that you didn't feel was necessary. Let's face it...if the state didn't require you to fix it in order to keep your car on the road...would you? No.

Nice try at the scare tactic, you are quite the drama queen. I guess you can't make up any scenarios where people actually live after an accident. Everyone must die to make your point.

DO NOT TAKE OF THE REJECTION STICKER! If you take it off, you are risking of getting pulled over and issued a citation. Keep the sticker on and take it to a different inspection station. The new station will only check what was rejected. If you take sticker off, they have to check everything and charge you for it.

Read state law 46.2-1157, and 46.2-1158.

finding an honest person to do the state inspection is like finding a good bartender. You follow them wherever they go.

Before I found a guy I could trust I went to a gas station. The guy said he was going to reject it because I had the wrong type of bolts holding the license plate in place. But for twenty bucks he could replace it with the right ones. I offered to call a state trooper to see if he knew what the guy was talking about. He went ahead and passed my car. The state police regulate these people, if you think they are screwing you over dont hesitate to call them.

LMAO! Yup...I had a marker light out once at an inspection. Which is indeed a violation...I don't dispute that. The inspection "technician" said he'd be happy to replace the bulb, parts and labor for $32. I told him to hold on a second as I needed to go to the bathroom...

I walked across the street and bought the bulb at an auto parts store. Walked back in to the service bay where the guy was waiting for me, told him he had a phone call out front and when he left, I pulled out my pocket knife, undid the lens and replaced the bulb.

When he came back he said, "My name is Khalid...the phone call was for Khalil..."

"Sorry about that...", I said..."I think it's just a loose wire."

He passed me.

Always tell the inspector, before he starts, that you have a regular mechanic who will be fixing any problems revealed in the inspection.

I found a good inspector and have used him for 8 years. I always tip him $5.00 because he will overlook minor stuff. Once I was waiting to install my window regulator ( a real pain in the ass) and he did not fail me for 'drivers window will not go down.' Another time I think one of the two license plate lights was out he just said I should go buy a bulb for it and passed me.

Here's a thought - walk around your car BEFORE you take it in for an inspection. Put a rag on the tailpipe and listen. Then fix it before you go.

Good advice. I have always preinspected before my car was inspected.
Personally feel we should go back to every 6 months. If you can't afford the maintenance you can not afford the car.

I remember when inspections were every six months. Population has tribled but cars would be safer and drivers accountable.

Take your BS liberal scare tactics elsewhere. I have yet to see any reliable statistics that show states with safety inspections have less motor vehicle maintenance-related accidents than states without such inspections. Once again, GTFO.

To the OP, you made the golden mistake of taking your car to the stealership. Your best bet is to find an honest shop that'll hopefully tell you nothing is wrong with your car and just pass you.

State inspections are so useless and just another way for sleazy mechanics to line their pockets.
