What do you think of the Smart car?

Im deciding wheather I should buy the Smart car or not. For me its not about the fuel efficiency but to ease through traffic. What do you guys think?

Unless you're planning to illegally lane split with other cars then you will have no advantage in traffic or anywhere else except maybe for fitting into smaller parking sports, on the other hand you'll get to look like an idiot driving a roller skate that cost as much as a real car.

It's a faggot car.

I'm in a full-size SUV and if there were a crash, I'd probably feel like I hit a squirrel.

And the gas mileage is not that impressive for being as small and "innovative" as it is.

SUV-Silly Ugly Vehicle or
Stinky Useless Vagina

Smart cars are ugly, practical and efficent vehicles.
Occupants have a 90% survival rate in a headon collision at 104kph.
An SUV would be much easier for you to perform homosexual activities in.

I'm not sure why "easing through traffic" is your top priority for your vehicle but, if that's sincerely the case...I'd recommend a Mini Cooper S with a manual transmission of course. You're still a flaming homosexual on wheels but, your "easing through traffic" quotient is much higher in the Cooper than the SmartCar. I test drove a SmartCar and took it out on the Beltway. At 50mph, I didn't feel safe. At 60mph, it sounded like it'd fall apart at any given moment. Also, have you checked the safety ratings? The Mini Cooper isn't the safest car in the class but, the Smart is a coffin on wheels...

Except I'm not inclined to participate in such perversions.
Seems you are by your definitions above. I'm going to
have to turn down your offer, queer-boy.

I would still rather be in a 6,000lb vehicle than in a
soup can if there's a head on meeting, or any other type
of collision. And the density ratio of fags is much higher
in Smartcars than in anything else on the road, which is
a good thing as they'll be killed quicker than if they were
in a real car.

Under some circumstances, a diesel Smart car (70 mpg) might make some sense. But since the diesel Smart is not sold in the US, no. The gassers don't get significantly better mileage that some much better ToyHondNiss offerings.

Speaking of our ridiculous diesel emissions standards in this country, Navistar (International), a great American company for 100 years is about to declare bankruptcy. They spent 700 million trying to develop diesel engines that meet 2010 EPA regs and failed. Caterpillar completely abandoned the on-road diesel market rather that risk Navistar's fate. The truckers are PISSED.

What do you mean "ease through traffic"? That makes no sense.

Do be aware that the more massive a vehicle, generally the safer it is, and so it works in the converse. If it were an UNsafe car, it would not be street legal, so you're not taking a massive risk, but it is riskiER.

The EPA sucks. It's a shill for "green energy" and all that assorted crap. Nobody wants to hear the truth about energy: the future is in nuclear. The future isn't in wind, solar, or any other source Obama believes in.

If you get hit, you're dead. I wouldn't buy one. I'd rather buy something built solidly, even though it may get worse gas mileage. For example, I'd buy a Subaru. They're tough, reliable, and unbelievably well built.

I too test drove a smart car and it felt like a tuna can on wheels to me. I was really excited and wanted one. Until I test drove it. The inside is very tight and it just didn't feel solid on the road and I never did get to interstate speeds. Drive it and if it feels good to you get it. I'm sure it is easier to park than most vehicles.

The Smart requires premium unleaded fuel, has only 70 horsepower, a tiny 8.7 gallon fuel tank and gets 36 mpg combined city/highway.

Why the fuck would anyone buy this hunk of poo when for about $500 less for a comparable model, you can buy a Nissan Versa which uses regular unleaded fuel, 109 horsepower, 10.8 gallon fuel tank, and the exact same 36 mpg.

Also, you have twice the interior space, a better network of dealers, and a car that doesn't make you look like an attention whore.

Buy a Subaru, it's a far better car and you can beat it to hell. I know someone who had a Subaru Legacy for 132,000 miles WITHOUT maintaining it.

There isn't a huge difference. A lot of the European sub-compacts have issues with crash tests. If you get in a crash with the ironically named Smart car, you're dead. With the Fiat 500, you may survive.

My work days will be spent locking up potheads and

I test drove the Smart, it handles poorly and the transmission shifts feel like a concussion grenade. Plus, you have to go through Mercedes dealerships for service, which is ridiculously expensive.

If you want a tiny car that weaves in and out of traffic, look at the new Scion IQ. A lot better than the Smart.

A small car does give a lot of advantages in traffic. Especially in DC.

I have a small car and I'm able to fit between cars at lights to get in the right turn all almost everyday. 75% of the others cars have to wait because some asshole hasn't pulled forward enough so they can get in the turn lane.

IT'S SO SWEET to look back behind me and see some big SUV stuck at the light because he could fit to get in the right turn lane.

The second plus of a really small car is PARKING. It's awesome to be at some big event or concert and there is that one parking spot nobody can fit into but I just pull right in park.

Overall it's just nice to be able pull into a parking spot with ease and not have to worry about if you can open your doors or by crowded. I use to have an SUV and I'd never go back now.

And of course the MPG is great on a small car. I go a month some time without having to fill up my tank.

If you really want the good gas mileage you should really look at a plug-in hybrid. You can charge the plug-in hybrid at night and if you only make small trips around town you my never need to put gas in the car.

The plug-in hybrid also gives you the extended range of gas whenever you need it.

Meh...all you're trying to do is justify your small car because you can't afford a bigger car. If someone walked up to you tomorrow and handed you the keys to a brand new full size SUV of your choice, you'd take it.

Ha

This is the disturbing thing about some people that they actually think that. Hey gas/cum guzzler, some people don't like SUVs. In fact it might shock you but some people think cars are pretty gay, and that people who are obsessed about them are about as gay as model train enthusiasts.

Vroom vroom

People in SUVs specifically though appear to be making up for a lack of a dick, or pretending to play cowboy. Don't forget to where those cowboy boots when you go out in your F350 because you are JUST like the rough necks in the commercials... other than the pansy ass job you got and your general fear of exerting any effort physically you fat fuck.

I've tested it for about a month from a company I work at. What I liked about it was how small it was and how I could even park literally anywhere. Due to its light weight, it accelerated fast enough when I manually switched gears.

Don't give me that not safe bullshit because I am 100% sure that it is safer than a motorcycle. Also, no matter what car you drive in, you always risk your life on the road, especially in NOVA.

I was planning to keep it as a second car, just to drive it occasionally. Like I said, MPG doesn't matter as I currently have Accord V6 w/ turbo and it not that horrible on MPG either. (275 mi. on 15 gallons).

The maximum speed on that was 100 mph and I've drove going 90 mph with it. I did feel unsafe because of how tiny it was, but in reality, no matter what car you have, you'll die at that speed when crashed.

Well, I guess I got my answer, - a faggot car. WTF?! - I doubt you're going to say it once you drive it.

The reason why it easily goes through traffic is because its only 9 feet long. Its much easier to switch lanes as people usually hold have 20 - 30 feet between a car ahead of them, which a regular sedan can't easily fit in.

I dont have a car you tiny dick'd SUVer. We get it, your gun and your car replace your tiny minuscule dick.

I save about $800 in car insurance per year, easily about $1000 in maintenance costs, and all that gas money I dont have to pay... what's gas at again? 3.50? That seems to cheap I hope it goes to 10 bucks so I could continue to not give a fuck. I use my extra $5000 a year on shit that is lot more fun than a gay truck.

Enjoy your shitty worthless truck that you dont even use correctly.

Oh, you no car so then you're dickless...got it. I don't know, man...my gay truck is quite a hoot. And, how do you even know how I use it?

It sucks that you can't afford a car. I'm sorry you didn't get a penis.

Yes I can't afford a car haha. Oh if only you knew the irony in your statement. The last car I purchased was bought with cash numbnuts. I sold it two years ago because I live within a half mile of my office, metro, groceries, and more shit to do than Im sure you have within a 5 mile radius. You douche.

I love how you moronically agreed that your truck is compensation for your penis size, so clearly you equate the truck as artificially give you a bigger dick because in reality you have a small dick. Its cool dude, its just a really expensive therapy for your hang up about your small dick.

A Smart Car is okay if you don't have any friends. That way you don't have anybody to haul around... or to ridicule you.

You'd have to be one sexy motherfucker to get any pussy with that ride.

Carmax prefers that potential Smart Car buyers not look under the hood because the plastic hinges break.

People trade them in because the maintenance is expensive.

You'd do a lot better with a four-seater economy minded Honda/Toyota/Nissan.

Ha. Saving 5000 a year douche. Keep wishing you had anywhere near as much disposable income as me. Gas should be heading up in about 2 or 3 months again before summer. Enjoy your 8 miles per gallon.

I will counter your unsupported claim with a thoughtful answer.

I also own a Golf which has held up incredibly well with very few repairs. However, this past fall I decided it was time for a new car. If I had gone with a VW again, it probably would have been the GTI. I'm sure it is a great car and fun to drive. But when I look at a GTI it just feels a little dated (I think the next generation comes out this year?). I wanted something new and different.

I was convinced that the Subaru BRZ was the perfect car for me. Until I test drove it. The interior design was weird and I felt too isolated from the road. I like the way it looks, but not the way it drives.

My boyfriend then insisted I drive a mini. Honestly, I resisted. I don't really get the stripes or having the body color different from the roof color. And the prices seem high for such little cars. However, I decided to keep an open mind. A minute or two into the test drive I had decided I was buying the car. They are a lot of fun to drive, I love having a something compact, and driving with the top down is so refreshing. If only it were warm enough.

I understand looking at a mini and dismissing it as silly. But everyone I know that has a Cooper S loves their car. So I'm guessing, you haven't even driven one.

Had a Mini S for a few years. It was great fun and never had any problem with it. Doors felt solid, not like the deathtrap tin doors on the Smart. Interior ergonomics weren't all that great. Overall, I'd buy another - definitely over the dumb "Smart" car.

I've driven a Smart Car for almost a year now. I own a cabriolet (A Convertible for you dumbshits who don't know what you are talking about).

This is the best car I have ever owned.

High safety rating so most of you are FOS

"All things being equal, in safety, bigger and heavier is always better. But among the smallest cars, the engineers of the Smart did their homework and designed a high level of safety into a very small package," said Institute President Adrian Lund in a released statement. The ForTwo includes seat-mounted side air bags (as opposed to curtain-style, head-protection bags), antilock brakes, and electronic stability control (ESC)—car safety features we recommended you look for in any car. Having ESC in such an inexpensive car is commendable."

http://news.consumerreports.org/cars/2008/05/smart-crashtest.html

They have a manual transmission dummys. It's called an automatic manual transmission so you put it in drive and it shifts by itself but mine has little flippers on the steering wheel to shift up or down. Or I can use the gear shift to do the same. It drives like a sports car.

Drives great on the Interstate. I drove mine all the way up from Mississippi.

It does take only premium gas BUT I have yet to get LESS than 43MPG.

Buyers choosing the smallest cars for low price and high gas mileage could be endangering themselves and their passengers, says a major auto-safety researcher.

In new crash tests, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rammed three automakers' smallest cars into their midsize models. Although the small cars had passed other IIHS tests, they flunked in collisions with larger but still-fuel-efficient sedans. "The safety trade-offs are clear," IIHS President Adrian Lund says. "There are healthier ways to save gas."

IIHS, funded by auto insurers, usually crashes cars into stationary barriers at 40 miles per hour. This time, it was car into car, each going 40 mph.

Barrier tests, in effect, show how a car holds up crashing into one like itself, Lund says. These tests show colliding with a larger car at the same effective speed as the barrier test.

IIHS picked three small cars that got its top rating of "good" in barrier tests. In these tests, they fell to "poor" The report comes as small cars take a larger share of U.S. new-vehicle sales. While R.L. Polk registrations show 13.8% of vehicles on the road are classed "small cars," their share of new-car sales rose from 14.5% in 2006 to 18.1% last year, says Autodata.

"We're hearing people say, 'Everything gets a 'good' rating now, so I might as well buy a small car,' " Lund says. "A lot of people are forgetting that the laws of physics still hold" and even a little bit bigger still is safer.

The mileage trade-off may not be much. A Honda Fit, for instance, is rated 31 miles per gallon in city/highway driving. A larger Civic gets 29 mpg.

The IIHS tested:

• Fit vs. Accord. The Fit crash-test dummy registered severe leg injuries. The dummy's head also slapped through the air bag and whacked the steering wheel.

• Toyota Yaris vs. Camry. Yaris nearly lost a door. Its driver's seat tipped forward. The dummy's head hammered into the steering wheel.

• Daimler Smart vs. Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan. IIHS says the Smart "went airborne and turned around 450 degrees … a dramatic indication of the Smart's poor performance, but not the only one." Much of the interior was shoved into the crash dummy "from head to feet." "

You haven't been hit yet.

I love the picture of the Rainrider enclosed scooter on the Metro. Will it protect you from the criminal elements on Metro as well as the rain?

I wonder if it has a robot arm like the space shuttle to push the elevator buttons at the metro stations, or does the driver have to get out?

What other options are available? Taser shell, jato rocket assists, surround sound, gun ports, etc.

I would love to be a Metro police officer just so I can kick that old lady off for having the Rainrider on the train.

Or see it up on lego blocks without wheels when she turns her back.

Do the Hispanic versions come with flame decals and stick on plastic chrome charging port covers?

Just have 4 thugs pick it up and turn her 90 degrees. No way out.

The "SmartCar" is a great way to proudly announce to the world that you're out of the closet. No Equal symbol or Rainbow decal needed.

you guys are funny. clearly it's a stupid car -- to be that small and not get better mileage than that is pathetic engineering. but the hate and homophobia showing up in half the posts have a lot more to say about you idiots than the car itself.
