want to ride any bus in dc for free?
get a new Barack Obama inaugural smart trip card, they have not updated any buses to accept them so it reads card error and you ride for free!

Someone didn't think this all the way through.
Since they know that you swiped your card at 8am 1/9/10 (for example) and it came back unreadable, it DID go into the database that your card was used that day. They might have not deducted money at that point, but they can see you did get on a bus with it.
Since you blasted this to the Underground and eventually it will get back to Metro staff, all they have to do is go into your account and withdraw the money after the fact.
I guess this is why you are a criminal- you don't THINK of ALL the possible outcomes.

This is not a mistake. The cards are part of the Obama everything is free agenda. Fairfax hopes to have one soon for the Fairfax Connector. The cards will feature Gerry Connolly on one side and Sharon Bulova on the other. There will of course be a "modest" increase in property tax to offset this free stuff.

oh i thought it through all right, i get 120 bucks a month in smart benefits, i dont care if they know when i travelled, i just want all of you smamry idiots to try it so metro eventually has to update the system so i can use my smart benefits.

not that i condone OP's behavior, I'm not so sure why you think an unreadable card would somehow track back to a person.
generic example: If im using card with an identification number of like 112902378378, if it doesn't read the card properly where is it getting the identification information from.
