Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
city-data dooshiness

When I got to the Underground, I heard pretty much about the same time about a website called "city-data". They have regional forums, including one for NoVA.

Registered there and, god, what a bunch of dooshbags. Did you know that you can't even mention the word fairfaxunderground there without having the thread deleted and your account threatened?

I think its time for a mass carpet bombing of city-data

http://www.city-data.com/forum/northern-virginia/ (posting the link not to highlight it but to make it easier)....

Good luck in your attack campaign.

If you want to be an online jerk, you come here.

If you want to participate in an online forum where actual information is exchanged in a (mandated) cordial manner, you go there.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

How can I say this....it seems that C-D is primarly catered to upper-class "Caucasian" interests exclusively.

Anytime someone asks about a more-diverse or lower-income neighborhood one is steered to "strongly avoid" ANY area that is predominately non-Caucasian. For example, saying ALL of Route 1 in Alexandria on the Fairfax County side is to be "Avoided" since there are "many people of color" living there without even giving a newcomer a chance to look for themselves and they immediately get steered to more expensive (read:gentrified) areas.

This irks me. Just my 2 cents.

Somewhat ironically, the vast majority of the talk by most here is just that -- talk for shock value and simply because they can get away with it. There it's more real, latent racism whether it's recognized and accepted as such or not. Just like the same phonies who pretend to be so accepting and tolerant IRL.

I grew up with the brothers in Del Ray back in the day when Del Ray was far more "diverse" (using the bs politically correct terminology). We very openly and routinely called each other nigger or white boy as appropriate and didn't try in the face of the obvious to pretend to be blind to race. Spent many a hot Summer day as a kid sitting on the front steps eating watermelon with my nigger friends and, later, passing bottles and joints around. Ate more than my share of scrapple for breakfast after spending the night at their houses and them at mine. I'd love to see what most of the people over there would say if they plopped a black Section 8 family next door. lmao

They delete lots of posts/threads; sngling out deletion of "ffu" posts is silly.

[you can mention something of FFXU, just don't mention FFXU! "Another message board" works fine. Content-free crap like the above-deleted thread gets the boot regardless WHY it is content-free crap]

Two thoughts on this topic:

1) They probably don't want the same sort of shit going on over there that regularly transpires here.

2) They don't want to allow a competing forum, which is what FFXU is, to be advertised on their forum.

If it's the latter, Cary should take the leftover money from the FFXU Legal Defense fund and place a paid ad on the Northern Virginia forums of City-Data.com.

There is, and it was, but he was banned there. Think he called himself "VA Singer" for a while.

FFXU's Neen, who was the Ann Coulter of the very lengthy FFXU high school redistricting thread, went by Denton56 on City-Data and also eventually got banned there. Don't know why.

That's because dumbasses don't know how to properly troll. Making blatantly obvious racist/homophobic/homosexual posts is to trolling as standing there punching each other is to boxing: Yeah, that can be part of it, but that's the lowest form of the sport.

The problem is, you have to be so subtle when you troll City Data that you're almost not trolling at all, and if the mods over there get even a whiff of the stench of trolling in your post they drop the hammer.

Why work that fucking hard when there are much softer targets to be had?

The state and city forums are useless and filled with scared, racist suburbanites and the "general" forums are filled with latent homosexuals exhibiting their homophobia, xenophibes, and general low lifes. That environment is being sanctioned and encouraged from the top down as the mods feel making city-data a haven for such types will bring greater traffic and interest. They are allegedly funded by right-wing hate/neo-nazi groups.

Thx all! This thread was the best thing I found while googling for "city-data out of touch old white conservatives". Nice to hear I'm not the only one not taking the forum's racist paranoia that seriously.

My spidey-senses were tingling early on after I was warned away multiple times from every neighborhood in Florida except the most bland suburban ones. Apparently it costs about $900-1000 per month to find a "remotely decent" 1BR down there. ??

Ummm, most of those "white conservatives" you imagine on city-data actually mostly are typical hypocritical white liberals who love brown and black people... just not in their neighborhood. Unless they're there to do some work and you keep an eye on them of course.

Easy to tell the difference in most cases. Conservatives usually will come right out and tell you that an area is bad and why. Liberals will tend to speak in code using terms like "still transitioning" and "diverse" or talk about school test scores as a way of warning you off while still maintaining their feigned "tolerance."

That has absolutely been my experience as well. Libs know the issues, they just dance around them because they're afraid the truth might offend someone. Well, sometimes the truth is offensive, but it isn't any less true.

My personal favorite is when avowed hardcore liberals with hella money living in suburban gated communities attack (apparently) poor whites who complain about crime rates/Mexicans/Blacks/immigrants/gangs/whoever. Their genius default response is always "move out of that neighborhood you stupid white trash" or "get some more money and move to a decent place you redneck".

Because hello everyone! It's 2014 and we've transcended racial prejudice by not talking about it while class prejudice is still in full view on the kitchen table.

Rich fringe suburbs are republican strongholds, at least fiscal conservative, see Loudoun and Clifton for instance. Most "hard core liberals" as you put it live in urban areas like Arlington, inside the beltway Fairfax, Reston, etc

Nothing screams ignorant trash in NoVa like complaining about people in their "gated communities." There are hardly any gated communities in NoVa. We don't need them when our narrow roads, big houses and shitty retail keep the riff-raff out.

So, yeah, do some Luminosity or something, and stop complaining about the local blacks and Hispanics, who probably work 10x harder than you, you dumb fuck.

have found that many moderators, particularly SUNSCAPE and KEEPER to be the most vindictive moderators on CITY-DATA. They allow trolls to post messages which are crafted to be inflaming causing responses from users that lead to other members being silenced by issuing "infractions" which deny users the ability to post anywhere on CD. The referenced moderators consistently support members who regularly post nonsense, insult other users and bring discourse to forums. It is my belief that CD moderators create accounts and post inflaming messages in order to incite users to respond to thier messages thus increasing the numbers to show advertisers how much thier site will bring hits to their websites
