Force FFX County school staff, teachers and principals to carry firearms in class?
Posted by: Berdhuis ()
Date: December 18, 2012 01:04PM

Gov. McDonnell wants to discuss it. Okay, what do staff, teachers and principals think about that?

Here's a short, incomplete list of questions in relation:

1. What kind of firearm?
2. What condition is the firearm kept - 4, 3, (in some cases 2), 1?
3. Training, licensure?
4. Safe stowage of ammo and weapon?
5. How about athletic coaches, band teachers, etc., during and after school hours?

Feel free to add to this list of questions, FFXU.

you know, since it's our children these guns would be going near?

and what level of training is required for this gun to be near my kids?

FUCK NO! I don't want a bunch of guns around my 4 and 6 year old. You know some stupid teacher is going to drop a gun or have an accident.

NOT AROUND MY KIDS!

As a nigger, you should already know that untrained people with guns are around your kids on a regular basis. Why pretend to care now?

Using your dominant eye, look through the rear sight and align the top of the front site with the target.

I think it may be the point that if a teacher has a concealed carry permit that they could then be allowed to carrry on school grounds. If that is the case I do not have any issue with it. I doubt that there will be a box next to the fire extingusher with a M4 that says break glass in case of active shooter.

Yes, because your little concealed handgun is such a match for the high-powered assault rifles with mega clips that these crazed killers use. Good luck with that.

Its a great idea for there to be members of teaching and coaching staffs trained with weapons just in case. For the school there could be a couple locations with the guns locked away that can be easily accessible or even have some wall safes in the classrooms of those teachers that unlock during emergencies. It would be real easy to send them to a police academy during the summer to go through the same 2 week firearms training cops do and if they qualify a gun can be placed in their classroom.

People like to ignore that fact that schools get picked because they know no guns are there. The oregon mall shooter was stopped by a ccw person. The 1997 school shooting was stopped by an assistant principle who had a gun in his car. Evil people will do evil things, we should be thinking about more ways to have people in a position to stop it

By the time the one or two people trained to use a weapon 1. find a key to wherever the gun is, 2. open the container, and 3. load the weapon, the shooter with his semi-automatic rifle will have blown him away.

And how about the 'collateral damage' while the terrified authorized user attempts to kill the shooter with kids running around left and right.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. There are something like 100,000 public schools in this country. The chance that some school kid finds and uses the authorized weapon (intentionally or unintentionally) are a hell of a lot higher than the chance that a crazed shooter will mow down the student population.

Address the real issues - the ridiculously easy access to guns and the crying need for improved mental health support. The last thing we need is more guns.

A simple locking release from a button in the office would be very sufficient to avoid that.

The weapons in a locked safe why would it be unloaded?

You dont mow down an entire school in seconds. You very easily could have more than 1 or 2 at a school from a volunteer basis only. Same training as cops could easily be ready in time for the fall.

Hence the training. You can make that same argument about cops then since my proposal was they do go the police academy to be trained.

How do you find a weapon in a locked safe?

You are right though that school shootings are very rare despite what the media would like us to believe.

Theres no ridiculously easy access to guns. Mental health support is the real issue though thats true.

The last thing we need is more disarmed soft targets from gun bans

If those kindergartners had been armed, this never would have happened. There just aren't enough guns in schools. We need guns in every classroom in America. And not just guns, assault weapons, so that we can match firepower with the crazies. Once every American is open carrying assault weapons like they do in Mogadishu, then we will be safe.

If it's that easy for a teacher to find and use, it would be that easy for a kid.

What school do you know of where students are allowed free reign of the administrative offices? Its clearly not going to be just be sitting in the middle of the hall where anyone can play with it

Just to entertain the idea fine make it a necklass or bracelet with the release that the principle and vice principle, maybe 1 or 2 other trusted high ranking members of the staff, have access too.

It really wouldnt be that hard to implement if we wanted too.

Carrying a higher powered weapon negates the effectiveness of smaller caliber weapons? So you can't shoot a guy with your hand gun because he's carrying a rifle?

Not sure how that works, but okay sport.

Really logical.

So how does the principal or whoever is trusted with this button to release the guns in all the classrooms know that it's safe to release those guns? How would they know if the shooter just ran out of ammo and is standing right next to one of those special gun cabinets?

And there's always the risk of someone figuring out a way to hack the release mechanism, the remote control button, or otherwise override everything and on the last day of school unlocks every gun so the kids can have a little fun.

The best course of action is to not allow 24/7 cable news reporting to cause you to get unhinged about an incident that didn't occur in 99.999% of schools that day. School shootings don't happen more often than they do.

Not a rifle, sport. A high-powered, at least semi-automatic, assault weapon with high capacity magazines. There is a reason handguns are not the frontline weapons of the military. They don't have the range, accuracy, or stopping power of assault weapons. What if the shooter is wearing level II or III body armor? Your little pistol won't penetrate it. Oh, but if you are wearing that body armor, the assault rifle will shred it. Face it, you concealed carry types have no real chance against these weapons. But if you need that concealed 9mm to make you feel like more of a man, by all means pack it.

Ok so he is wearing body armor, unless it covers his face and legs he can be stopped. Even a body shot with armor can knock the wearer down. You post a lot of what if crap and its obvious you know little to nothing about how different firearms operate.

Sport, an assault rifle is a rifle.

You don't know very much about weapons or the military. the M1911A1 is a hand gun issued to Army officers. They generally do not carry rifles. The .45 ACP round the M1911 fires has much greater "stopping power" than the .22 round common in "assault weapons".

So now in your alternate reality, carrying a rifle also implies that you are wearing "level II or III body armor"? (Is level II and III something in a video game? How many hit points does it take to lose your level II armor?)

Most assault weapons are considered carbines.
The M1911A1 is a large bore low velocity pistol
used for last defense by officers and some NCOs.
The .45 could make a VietCong fly backwards when hit in the chest.
But enough.
Most guns should be banned. This is now out of control.
Call me what you want. Liberal, libtard I don't give a fuck.
This isn't about the 2nd amendment but morales and intelligence.
Time to grow up.

with a little practice you can use a handgun effectively at 25 yards.

however, i think we are missing a group of individuals whose job it is already to keep the public safe. how about the police policing the schools? yes, you would need to hire more officers.

please dont bother to tell me that this will make kids feel unsafe. why do your children fear the police? should they fear a gunman less?

That's all we need are more accessible guns and then some principal or teacher goes nuts with their gun.

I can just see the news now. "Something just snapped in the principal and he grabbed the schools assault rifle and went classroom to classroom."

Or worse, the student got hold of the weapon and then starting shooting.

The problem is keeping guns and nut jobs OUT of schools, not adding more.

Yes just them them shoot until their out of bullets very logical. That is a terrible counter argument. By that logic cops shouldnt have extra ammo either after all a gunman could kill them and use it to reload.

Not everyone is a super genius hacker. Little kids arent going to figure it out. High school kids will know better. Either way is a teacher is between them and the weapon.

I do agree with that, while tragic its no where near as common as people make it out to be. However that doesnt mean defenses cant be put in place. Ever notice how these things almost always happened in gun free zones.

Google is your friend, sport. Your self-perceived knowledge of these issues far exceeds your actual knowledge. You just demonstrated you know nothing about body armor. Oh, and try and keep up. The M1911 was great in World War II, but the standard issue handgun for US Army officers for decades has been the Beretta M9. And the days of officers on the frontlines walking around with just a handgun are about as long gone as the rest of your "knowledge" of these issues.

It's time to lock these weapons down and keep them out of the hands of the mentally insane, Rambo wannabes, and half-trained civilians.

Of course! The answer is more guns in the schools! What could possibly go wrong? These incidents always happen in places were communities gather, schools, churches, movie theaters, malls, because that's what the crazy loners are acting out against. They don't fit into social groups, so they take it out on them.

99.99 percent of flights don't have shoe bombers on them, but we all have to take off our shoes. Fact: US guns kill way more Americans than terrorists do.

I know a few fcps employees that I would never want to teach my kid let alone teach them with a firearm in class. All I can think of is the DEA agent shooting himself in the leg. There is noway teachers will get as much range time as the DEA, and that guy still shot himself.

Along with armed security at each school, something also needs to be done with all these mentally disturbed individuals. They should be institutionalized, medicated and/or kept carefully monitored.

A teacher wouldnt be handling the gun in class. Its actually very easy to get as much range time as a cop, they only shoot a few times a year. Cops dont go through military training with constant shooting drills and marksmanship.

The basic premise of the pro-gun advocates is that the armed teacher, guard, citizen, etc., would hit their target on the first shot, and actually permanently incapacitate him.

FALSE!

Collectively that would never happen. They would wind up killing their own students before being shot themselves at a high level of frequency.

Lots of people have already raised valid concerns, so my reasons for being against this are mostly covered...except one. I am an FCPS staff member with a left eye visual acuity of just around 20/200, a right eye visual acuity of no more than 20/600 (though that eye sucks so badly I think that number is mostly there just so there's a measurement--I doubt it's even that much), and a field of less than 30 degrees.

Now, putting aside any ideological pro- or anti-gun bias whatsoever...Does it *really* seem like a good idea to force me to carry a gun? Frankly, it would take some serious Mad Max style shit going down before it would even *occur* to me to pick up a gun.

How do you even come up with that logic? You should just shoot yourself immediately.

1 shot or 100 shots to kill a person coming into a school to kill children, it does not matter the number of shots as long as it gets done and the person is stopped. You think as many assholes are going to try pulling off a school shooting if there is an armed guard on duty? Let me ask you this, dipshit. When is the last time you heard of people being shot and killed by a mass murderer at a shooting range? Why do you think these sappy little emo fucktards are going chising schools to carry these acts out? Because they were all pussies in school, never fought back or learned to defend themselves and now they get to act out their revenge on the world by shooting up a school full of kids because they know, these sick emo fucktards know that there's no one there to stop them. Fuck you. You're an asshole. All you stupid Mitherfuckers who think like you do are assholes. Leave. Go away. Move to another country. No one wants you fucking idiots here. Get the fuck out of here. LEARN.TO.READ.

Guess where those 99 missed shots are going - the ether, you fantasize? No, most will probably hit an unintended person, especially in close quarters like a hallway or classroom. You people and the NRA need to get your heads out of video games and gun ranges where missed shots don't cost anything.

Missed shots cost other lives.

It's folks like you with firearms who need to have them confiscated.

Didn't see where they shot at or in the presents of students. Did I miss something?

If you are saying that because a teacher fought with a student that they would shoot a student, with "high level of frequency"(your words), you need to step back and reevaluate.

I googled "teacher injures student," and came up with this is today's newspaper.

http://www.statesman.com/news/news/crime-law/investigation-opened-into-report-of-injury-to-del-/nTcm7/

And here is one where school officials were injured by a teacher

Inskip Elementary School Feb. 10, 2010

An angry fourth-grade teacher opened fire, critically injuring the principal and assistant principal in the school office after he was fired.

Teacher caused student's concussion a few days ago

http://myfox8.com/2012/12/18/teacher-resigns-after-giving-student-concussion/

Do I continue with the google machine?

@bill - you never specified "shooting" - you just asked if a teacher has injured a student.

I want to to look at this story, my friend. And you tell me that ppl who would do something like THIS to children would NEVER use a firearm or threat of using a firearm to discorage children from reporting..................

Bad idea, the problem is not only guns, it's mental and family dysfunctionality. We, as parents are the source of all these social issues that are destroying us. There are too many guns already. Don't put more guns on schools. Stop giving your kids crap that don't really need like expensive electronics, toys, clothes, etc so you don't have to work extra hours or jobs to pay the bills and miss quality time with the family. Stop the american obsession with guns, who cares if it is your f%*! right to own a gun, this is a right that I am sure we can live without. Also, we need to stop medicating ourselves with all the stupid new medicines advertised by the pharmaceutical companies and wall street. Who cares if Pfizer or Walmart don't make the extra 100 millions more than they expected. What's more important, wall street expectations or the integrity of your family? How easy is to say USA is the best and greatest place on earth, but our kids and newer generations will not be able to maintain that status because they are busy updating stupid social networking status and watching garbage reality TV. We are failing as parents by not preparing our children for the future. So let's start honestly looking for solutions at home before we put more guns on schools.

The one in Houston was an attempted murder. Not all gun violence is murder. To pretend only gun related DEATHS should be our locus is narrow minded and pigheaded.

I can see I upset you with my outing of either your pathetically transparent attempt at deception, or your weak attempt at equivocating the real issue. Dumbass.

You can spend all the time you want at the range, but in a situation where you're under fire, even highly-trained people often fire inaccurately, and with bad results. Misses can mean injured or dead children.

Remember the Empire State shooting this summer? At first blush, it seemed like a mass shooting. Then it came out that nine of the injured people were shot by police officers attempting to bring down the shooter. The shooter only shot one person.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/26/us/new-york-empire-state-shooting/index.html

"Nine pedestrians suffered bullet or fragment wounds in the hail of gunfire, all from shots fired by police . . ."
