Already done. Now back to assault rifles.

As of January 1, 2010, the fire-safe cigarette law was in effect in 43 states. It has been signed into law and will become effective in all states and the District of Columbia by 2012.[5] State laws generally contain provisions permitting the sale of non-FSCs that have been tax-stamped by wholesalers and retailers in the state prior to the effective date of the state’s FSC law. The laws require cigarettes to exhibit a greater likelihood of self-extinguishing using a prescribed laboratory test method, E2187, developed by ASTM International (formerly, the American Society for Testing & Materials). The E2187 standard is cited in U.S. state legislation and is the basis for the fire-safe cigarette law in effect in Canada. It is being considered for legislation in other countries.[6]

@##### - you know what, I got you all wrong and I think you have me wrong as well cause you just sat there and totally explained exactly how I feel, yo.

I still think a trigger-lock law could help reduce gun crime. Seems to be an easy way to help reduce gun crime and it doesnt seem like such a big deal - I'm not too sure why it would be such a big deal. And yeah, "moms" prolly wouldnt have put them on her guns cause she obviously was a dumb-fuck in the common sense dept, keeping them in a place where her mentally ill son who she had trouble handling could get a hold of them.
So yeah, I see your point there - but all I know is that hope a gun-lock law would help move the gun culture in the country more towards a path of properly stewardship of guns - understanding that owning a firearm means that it, as an object, is a target of future theft and misuse AGAINST YOUR OWN FRIENDS, FAMILY, NEIGHBORS, COMMUNITY, ETC. And it's such a little thing to do..............

I know you think I'm attacking yr rights but I'm not - No I dont like guns but I'm not even thinking that a gun ban needs to be in place or anything like that. But I do have to admit I'm sick and tired of the 2nd amendment being used like a fucking redneck partybong and not as the tool for breeding honourable defenders of our Freedom like it should be, I guess.

And I think and law nudging the populace back towards responsible stewardship of firearms is a good thing, is all.

Since NRA is in county and people here want to talk about it. We can call for local Fairfax BOS to have a public meeting. That way we can hash this all out and making it a safer place for all, even those who want to still have guns.

It's that theory that gun owners have small penises and get guns so they'll feel more like a man.

From the women I've dated, they seem to confirm that is kinda correct.

I'm going to suggest this to mythbusters.

Rednecked
It's pretty bad when the NRA is directly going against law enforcement's legislation to stop violence

The Chiefs of Police are not real cops they are political appointees who tow the line of the party in power in their respective jurisdictions. They spout whatever they are told to spout or else they find themselves fired.

Nothing on the NRA website about the Sandy Hook massacre. Flag was flying full staff at HRA headquarters on Monday 12/17. They flew it half-staff when Charlton Heston died; I guess they march to the beat of their own drum.

It is pretty clear though that the NRA has no idea what to do right now. Suddenly, people who normally have supported the NRA are starting to see how misguided the NRA's purist gun rights positions have been.

The truth is that many factors contributed to the Sandy Hook massacre, but other than mental health issues the most important one is the easy availability of assault weapons and large capacity magazines in this country.

The 2nd Amendment was not written into the Constitution so that citizens could protect their private property or person; nor so that citizens could be prepared to violently oppose a despotic government. It was put there so the early U.S. could be ready to counter foreign invasions by relying on militas to supplement the regular army. This is clear in the emphasis on "well regulated" in the 2nd Amendment itself, and even in the relevant clause in the Articles of Confederation that guided the language of the 2nd Amendment. Without stipulating that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms, it would be impossible to stand up militias (because they would be illegal; you'd have to draft people to the regular army -- and pay them a salary -- before letting them take up arms). Bottom line is that all the "cold dead hands" and "Don't Tread on Me" people need to take a deep breath and reconsider their purist doctrine.

Here are some ideas:

1. Outright ban assault weapons and ammunition, and large capacity magazines;
2. Instate and fund a compulsory buyback of assault weapons and ammunition sold before the ban;
3. License the possession and use of firearms and ammunition, and require registration for firearms like we currently do for driving privileges and automobile ownership; require regular updates to licenses and registrations;
4. Base the provision of gun use licenses on having passed a stringent safe-use exam (and I'd personally like to see a mental health review as part of that);
5. Mandate that all gun merchants be licensed, and that any gun sale or transfer of ownership require a licensed broker;
6. Mandate a waiting period for gun sales and transfers of ownership;
7. Prohibit gun purchases, ownership, or use by anyone who is under the age of 16, has a record of mental illness, criminal activity, or who is unable to pass a safe-use exam in order to obtain a gun use license;
8. Tax the sales of firearms and ammunition, and use the taxes to fund medical care for uninsured shooting victims, the hardening of public buildings against gun assaults, gun safety and education programs for licensed gun owners, and possibly mental health programs as well.

The devil will be in the details: things like semiautomatic capability; large caliber, hollow-point, and armor piercing bullets, etc. And all sides should have a say in the discussion, but only if they can articulate exactly what they want and why, and be ready to accept alternatives and negotiate. It might be acceptable for children 12 and older to use certain classes of hunting rifles and shotguns, for example -- but they should have to pass a stringent care and safe use test before getting their limited license.

^^^ @GG - I concur, and would offer some additional details:

9. Nationalize firearms retailing solely to a federal agency. Easier to corrupt private retailers.

10. Require regular periodic qualifications for each type of firearm possessed - examination to occur every 2 years. Fail to qualify, government training center retains custody of your weapon for safe keeping while you retrain until qualifications standards are met. Gun owner pays for training and ammunition.

11. Restrict semi-automatic and automatic weapons for use by military and other authorized government agents.

Kind of does not matter, you do understand that the type of guns you are talking about have been flying off the shelves for almost a decade now. they will grandfathered in, So it will change nothing except future sales.
hell, you could stop all gun production and it would not make a difference. The genie is out of the bottle.

An ill-timed tweet after Columbine by “American Rifleman,” the official NRA journal, hours afterward said, “Good morning, shooters. Happy Friday! Weekend plans?” The NRA later said the tweeter was unaware of the tragedy.

http://wtvr.com/2012/12/18/nra-breaks-silence-and-releases-statement-about-newtown-shooting/

(CNN) –The National Rifle Association broke silence on Tuesday and said they plan to hold a press conference on Friday in Washington D.C.
They said they are “prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.”

The following statement is below:
“National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.
Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.”

The ATF/DoJ has opened a gun store called Fast & Furious. Discounts for

How ironic that when republicans got caught in F&F and identified they quickly brushed it under the rug.

Amen!!! Half these pansies gun owners have never even been in a gun fighting situation or shot at. In Iraq I needed my M16 but there is no reason some 20 year old should to be running around with an assault rifle.

John Carburruvius is a Democrat precinct committeeman in Bay Area Houston. He is a well-known Democrat in the state, worked on Noriega for US Senate campaign. He also SERVES ON THE TEXAS STATE DEMOCRAT COMMITTEE. On Friday he urged his twitter followers to murder NRA members and anyone who supports them.
The Examiner reported:

On Sunday, we reported that liberals on Twitter called for the murder of NRA members. One of those making the calls was identified Sunday as John Cobarruvias, a blogger, Democratic precinct chairman in the Houston area and a member of the Texas Democratic Executive Committee.

“Can we now shoot the #NRA and everyone who defends them?” he tweeted.

After reading about the tweets on another site, Yvonne Larsen noticed a familiar name.

“Among the selection of tweets advocating for the murder of NRA President Keene and all NRA members was a name familiar to me; probably familiar to many readers of Houston’s Liberal blog sites,” she wrote at Big Jolly Politics.

Larsen said she “pasted a screen shot from the Freedom’s Outpost story in case NASA employee and Democrat Precinct 699 Chair John Cobarruvias of the Houstonblog Bay Area Houston tries to delete his tweet.”

“You are an embarrassment to precinct chairs everywhere – and Americans. You sound like the next crazed shooter,” one person tweeted in response.

Please, I can't stop laughing.

You can't be seriously implying that the NRA cares if people get killed by guns. Of course not. The NRA will always say you need to buy more guns now!

The NRA couldn't give a rats ass about gun safety. The whole NRA is nothing but a front for gun manufactures to pedal and market guns through.

That's correct. I served in Iraq and I had an M-16. As for the general public having assault rifles I'm against that. A handgun is fine for self defense but automatic weapons, such as the AK-47 cross a line.

It should also be noted that in Iraq my unit went door to door in house searches taking away AK-47's and assault rifles from civilians.

Automatic weapons are banned with few exceptions under the National Firearms Act of 1934. Are you confused?

Ok rifles with carbines that can fire rapidly like the Bushmaster ACR. Do you really need a gun that can fire 100 rounds in a minute to kill a deer or a home intruder? NO!

There is only one purpose for the Bushmaster ACR and that's to kill ALOT of people quickly.

Some of the kids shot were shot 7-10 times.

Hunting deer with a .223 would be stupid and would be against the law in
Virginia. If the home intruder is armed I want to have the edge on firepower.

M-16's, M-4's (a shorter version of the M-16), and AR-15's are primarily semi-automatic firearms. This means that in order for you to fire a round, just pull the trigger. You can fire rounds as quickly as you can pull the trigger - in theory.

The M-16 and M-4 have a selector switch with 3 options (safe, semi, burst). Selecting 'Semi' allows for 1 round to be fired with 1 trigger pull. Selecting 'Burst' allows for 3 rounds to be fired with 1 trigger pull. That option resembles an automatic, but not completely.

The civilian AR-15 is a semi-automatic, that can be configured to fire 3 rounds with 1 trigger pull, just as the M-16, M-4. It natively fires 1 round per 1 trigger pull.

The AR-15, among many others, should be banned for civilian use.

AR-15's do not have a burst function. Why do you make up things like this?

They are easily modified to enable 3-round bursts, many owners do so with after-market parts/modifications. I took this topic to the other thread "Assault Rifle Ban Renewal"

Do you think releasing movies like the Hunger Games and all the filth that comes out of the movies has a positive impact on kids/teens/young adults?
