Dean Tisdadt is GONE; Welcome Jeff Platenberg

From the FCPS PR Bureau:

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Superintendent Jack D. Dale has named Jeffrey Platenberg, who currently serves as assistant superintendent for support services with Loudoun County Public Schools, the new assistant superintendent for facilities and transportation services, effective January 8, 2013. Platenberg will replace Dean Tistadt, who is retiring.

“Jeffrey Platenberg is an experienced assistant superintendent for facilities, having worked in that capacity for Loudoun County schools since 2007,” said Dale. “His professional expertise will transfer easily to FCPS. And we are happy to welcome him back to Fairfax, where he began his career in 1985.”

In Loudoun, Platenberg oversees the operations of safety and security, food service, facilities services, transportation, the warehouse, surplus equipment, photocopying, energy and environment, and telecommunications and instruction. He manages new school construction and renovation projects, including construction of 13 new schools; oversees the improvement of energy efficiency for school facilities and expanded sustainable initiatives; and is responsible for enhancing the security systems of schools and facilities by installing camera-phone and card access readers at entrances. Under his direction, Loudoun County schools earned the 2012 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Sustained Excellence Award, and in 2010 and 2011 was the EPA Energy Star Partner of the Year. The Virginia School Board Association recognized the district with the first place award in its Green School Challenge.

Prior to joining Loudoun County, Platenberg worked for the Lexington County (S.C.) School District One as assistant superintendent for accountability and information-communication technologies. He provided leadership and direction in facility planning design and implementation, including technological integration; upgraded the district-wide technology infrastructure; and directed and managed a $2 million budget and $16 million bond initiative. Platenberg also served as deputy superintendent of support services for the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education and director of facility services for the Richland County School District One in Columbia, S.C.

Platenberg began his career as a senior budget analyst in FCPS, where he managed the budgets of seven departments, and later served as a transportation management analyst, administering the training and operations center of the FCPS school bus fleet and managing the bus driver training center. In 1989, he was promoted to coordinator of capital project management-budget and finance, where he was responsible for the FCPS design and construction program until 1996. Platenberg administered the $100 million annual appropriation capital projects fund and supervised and directed the activities of the budget and capital projects staff.

A graduate of George Mason University with a bachelor’s degree in public administration, Platenberg earned his master’s degree from Webster University. He completed the two-year executive leadership program as part of the Center for Creative Leadership’s Institute for Educational Leadership Education Policy Fellows, and has made numerous presentations at professional conferences.

Should eligibility be denied, families have the opportunity to make a formal appeal for a hearing on the decision either verbally or in writing to Jeff Platenberg, LCPS assistant superintendent of support services.

I'm involved with fcps and my understanding is there currently is no Mrs Tistadt.

Rumor has it that Dean took up with some elementary school principal and ditched the famous phone message one.

Loved the snow days when he made support employees go to work and risk our lives to get there but he stayed home doing nothing to earn that big salary.

Guess it's now official that "Thomas More" is in desperate search for a life. Gossiping about supposed affairs among FCPS staff members is supposed to be left to soccer moms, not old men with law degrees.

1. Tistadt is gone-amen-what a prick. I feel sorry for Charlottsville PS-they are stuck with his lardass.

2. Hiring a guy from Loudoun WHO DOES NOTHING BUT NEW CONSTRUCTION was positively assinine. He has zero experience with renovations of 50 year old schools-which is what FCPS needs.

3. First boneheaded decision-$21 million to buy and renovate that shithole office building at Seven Corners for a school.
