Can anyone recommend a gym in the fairfax area?

We have so many gyms around here. There's Gold's, Lifetime Fitness, Sport and Health Club, etc. Any recommendations. Anyone know the monthly fee. They won't quote anything over the phone. They want you to come in for the tour.

Thanks.

I wouldn't go to Lifetime, sure it is clean and open 24 hours but it is a real pussy gym. Most of its clients are over 65 or fat chicks, if you are seriously into working out don't go there. And did I mention all the bratty little kids that run around there after school. About the price there is also a $300 or $400 deposit, to much money to spend on a new year's resolution. Right?

Why are kids running around in a gym? Aren't there serious people in the weights section??

There's a very small percent of people actually lifting the rest are just kids messing around and putting themselves in danger doing to much weight without a spotter

Sure, Lifetime (both Fairfax and Centreville) suffer from teenagers dominating the place from about 2:30 until 5pm and 7:30 to 10pm, but they seem to be more interested in the basketball court. The workout area can be busy, but not too bad most of the time. I think that a lot of working adults get there between 4:30 and 7am,workout for 90 minutes and leave. The crowd changes to seniors and stay at home moms (FWIW, some real MILFs) around 9am until 12 noon, but there is still plenty of space.

My biggest complaint about the teenagers is the mess that they leave behind in the locker room. Lifetime is a very pleasant environment with good trainers, clean and well-maintained equipment and a variety of programs.

I don't know about it being a "pussy gym", but for a non-meathead like myself, it suits perfectly. There are much fewer seniors there than most gyms I've been to, and you can knock down the initial fee by applying towards the end of the month or bargaining with them. The only thing I don't like are the kids. They are everywhere downstairs (in the Centreville Lifetime), and their parents (mostly Korean and oblivious) don't watch over them so they'll run right into the parking lot or into a door you're about to let shut behind you. If it weren't for the kids I'd give it a 10/10 (the jailbait is hot though!)

Or you can do 500 push-ups and 500 sit-ups daily free-of-charge.

You really don't want to join a gym right now. I work out at home on a bowflex, but some friends who go to gyms are complaining because they are PACKED. Give it another 30 days or so and most of the new years resolution crowd will have gone back to their sofas.

Some are hot. recognizing that fact doesn't make anyone a child molester any more than looking at ice cream would make you fat. Is it the weather or is there a hate wave going on around here?

Be careful what you say - it can come back to haunt you. I went to court and spent a lot on money to defend myself for saying less than what you just posted(I lost, too). Just trying to help out. Maybe we should post on Dr. Phil.

Are you saying all Korean women are Catholic or what stinkypoon? Sounds pretty prejudiced to me. I wonder what that makes me - a southern black woman and proud of it.

"Waunita's" post makes no sense. Makes me wonder if Waunita is just another posting by that same name changing troll ... just like "Jackson"?

I don't know about any of the "you're racist" "i'm not racist" garbage, but:

I work out at the Fairfax Racquet and Tennis Club on Rt. 50 near the Harley dealership. It's not a great gym; the equipment is a little old and the selection is mediocre - for instance, they do not have a decline bench. I go there mostly because it's walking distance from my job so I can work out at lunch.

However, it's not a bad gym and certainly adequate for all but the most serious lifters. It's part of a tennis club which means that the weight room usually only has half a dozen people in it, which is nice; it cost $100 to join and is $40 a month.

Lifetime is a rip off and most of the people who go there, go there to socialize or sleep on the benches. I was with them when they were $50 bux a month, but now they're $60 a month?!

it's still a good deal. plenty of treadmills, full length pool, sauna, hot tubs, climbing wall, open 24/7. and if a bunch of lil teenage girls want to stand around and socialize in tight little outfits, i'm not gonna complain.
