Thanks for the extra day off at Christmas! County employees will get the extra day off with pay as well!

Most of us are used to seeing neatly wrapped gifts awaiting us under the tree. But Virginia state employees received an early Christmas gift in their inbox.
Gov. Bob McDonnell got in the holiday spirit by giving all public employees an extra day off during Christmas week. December 26 has been added to their holiday schedule.
Employees learned of the holiday bonus Monday.

Not only do state and most county employees get the 26th off with pay but we get new years eve off with pay this year. That makes 14 paid holidays instead of the usual 12. I think its the least the governor could have done after the sucky pay raises we have gotten lately.

Before you run out to apply for a state job they havent had a raise in six years. They do not get in step raises so whatever they made in 2006 they still make today, except since they now contribute more to retirement they actually make less than they did six years ago. If you are looking to get rich I wouldnt look to the state.
