Don't do it, it's lamer than it sounds. All the older guys (the higher degrees) are all secretive about stuff, and are condescending assholes to us lower degrees. And then you have to do all this weird shit to the new inductees, it just seems... gay. I only go for the free food and drink now.

People love to pretend they know something special .

If a 33 degree mason knows anything that spine tingling , you can bet it would have been exposed by now.

Sorry, but the whole freemason thing sounds incredibly pretentious and douche sodden.

Concentrate on getting laid and drunk like other kids your age.

People get caught up in all of the conspiracy theories surrounding these secret societies because people who have political or economic power sometimes affiliate with one or another of those groups.

But they are confusing the relationship with those secret groups as the cause of the power, not just an incidental fact.

Joining is easy. If I recall (I went inactive a long time ago) but I think that there is a rule that a Mason cannot directly approach somebody about joining, but once a person asks about joining, he can discuss it with the person who asked as much ans eitherr one wants.

If you know someone who is a Mason (a lot of the older guys will wear rings or whatever, or approach your stepfather's old buddies), approach them about joining, they will probably bend over backwards to get you in. You might also want to find the closest lodge nd approach someone there.

A 33° Mason is someone who belongs to Scottish Rite, which is an appendant body of Freemasonry. You have to be a member of a Masonic blue lodge to join Scottish Rite; a blue lodge goes through 3 degrees and is the 'original form' of Masonry... the Scottish Rite and its 33 degrees are a lot newer, relatively speaking.

If you don't know anyone who is a Freemason, I suggest going to the George Washington National Masonic Memorial in Alexandria. It has a few exhibits that are interesting (and if you don't find them interesting then you know early on that Masonry is not for you, which is fine) and there would be people there to talk to as well.

I am a Freemason and enjoy it immensly, but it is not for everyone, as you can see from some of the above posts.
