I was surprised to find out that this site is being used by more and more smaller business. I didn't even know about this site until my son told me about the job interview that he had been on and how the employers used this site instead of doing a criminal background check. The guy told him that it was "cheaper" becasue it was after all just a part-time job working in a candy store. My son thankfully brought in the court documents and showed it to him and explained what happened.

Bullshit. Anybody can go to the Virginia courts website and look at his offenses. Who the fuck would use a message board as a background check?

Hopefully "real" employers aren't relying on this list. It only covers arrests made by Fairfax County cops... if someone was up on murder charges from PW county or Fairfax City, or if a state cop made the arrest, it wouldn't show here.

You are correct "pgens". Real employers will go the right route. This site is being used just by local employers for part-time jobs in the Fairfax area. That and local managers who work for these small businessess familiar with this site. I'm talking 17 - 20 year olds looking for part time work while going to school. Not murders, rapists, armed robbers, etc. Yes, I know some kids are - but that's not what I was referring to. Thanks.

Yes "eesh" I am positive. My son went on the interview and he was told by the manager that's where he went and found out about the charges against my son. It didn't give him the dispostions of the charges just what he was charged with. Now on the application he was asked if he had ever been convicted of any criminal or felony charges and he wasn't. He was charged with misdameanors.

I used to work in retail in high school, I think I can translate this.

Apparently third world nairobians and kenyans are over populated, and the illuminati is spraying poison chemicals into the exhaust gases of intercontinental airliners, in order to kill them off. The aids virus, after all, was imposed on them to wipe them out.

Yes, this is common. When you combine a very low hourly wage with lots of huffing paint and smoking cheap low-grade weed, you end up with this sort of shit.

One of the comments on that thread:

Yep, if they wanted to protect us from uv rays then why didn't they inform us before they started, why not consult with the public, and why keep it a secret and deny things.

If they wanted to protect us from the uv rays, someone propsed they could place satellites in space holding dishes that would block the sun's uv rays (like giant sunglasses). Spraying anything in the atmosphere at the rate they're doing it is ludicrous especially since they're all complaining about dying species, its like throwing more fire on fire.

Wouldn't it be best to simulate nature ie add more (real) clouds into the atmosphere, clouds that can pour real rain that crops would feed on. But nah these greenpeace people decided its best to stop all forrest burning to protect the trees. Thats a scam since all the ancients eg the aboriginies used to purposely burn entire bushes once a year. Burning the bushes and trees doesn't kill them, infact it induces nature to regenerte and grow more. The smoke produced heats up the atmosphere above and causes the clouds to come to rain. Nowadays here, most of the rain falls only near the coastal cities, hardly ever in the mountains where its needed and where our dam is. Why does it only rain near and on the cities, because thats where all the humidity is due to our polution. But they stopped the natural polution due to forrest fires, thats why it doesn't rain where its needed.

I don't know how to translate that one. But I have a feeling the person who wrote that comment also posted this video:

The only thing I can really say about this is that it is readily apparent that you need to be really bad at spelling to even be involved in this little sub-species sect of chemtrail enthusiasts. They make the death panel and birther nutcases seem like mensa candidates.

Felony Rights in Virginia
Posted by: Citizen Q ()

What rights will a convicted felon lose in the State of Virginia say for distribution of pot? I assume the right to vote, own a hand gun, have a professional license (like electrician or plumber). But I also heard they get a restriction to social security benefits? Where can you find the complete list?

The convicted felon has already lost rights due to the felony conviction, I don't see where proceeding to distribute pot would lose the person any more rights.

I think the question is what is the list. Sounds like citizen is guessing on which rights are lost. I do not believe the social security rights are lost? It was you money in the first place but I could be wrong.

Then the question should be what rights are lost with any felony conviction in Virginia.

If only there was a place on the Interwebz where questions can be posted, and the asker gets a list of possible places to look, all without additional human involvement...

I hear there's this place called "gaggle" or something. Google? No, wait, maybe it's Giggle.

Hello Cary,
I would like to request that Clifton gets its own Specific City/Town Forum spot. It is on the list of such, but it is one of the few towns/areas listed that does not have an actual discussion forum in place. To strengthen my argument, there appears to be no other individual town or area that gets as much discussion as Clifton does. We could really use a dedicated spot for discussing our town.
Thanks for everything.

Cary,

I recommend adding "multiple usernames" to the list of things you moderate.

A lot of the useless, unproductive bullshit and flame wars that appear on here stem from the "one user, many names" thing. I came in on the tail end of a time when groups of people on this site would meet up in person. Now, every new user is regarded with the utmost suspicion, and the unfounded accusations of everyone being the same person have gotten real old.

If someone wants to be an anonymous troll, fine. But, people register names to establish identity. There are very few legitimate reasons for using multiple names. New users could be discouraged from registering or using the site because of this melodramatic horseshit.

And that's all I have to say about that.

What about the users living with family, or roommates, who all enjoy using this site? How do you propose Cary distinguish between one person, using multiple registered names, and a family? Would you deny the members of the family the right to establish their own online identity? One registered name per household hardly seems fair.

I don't know how he would do it, honestly. I don't know the technical details of how Phorum works, or what information he sees as the admin.

What I do know is, many newly-registered names get this response to their initial postings:

http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/40/329285/329381.html#msg-329381

http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/40/329736/329736.html#msg-329736

... and this theme pops up way too often:

http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/40/329285/329315.html#msg-329315

I'm just making a suggestion that I think could help the board overall.

Maybe there could be a designated "Net Sleuth" thread?

Someone could say something like "Elle Diabla HAS to be MrMephisto... in the dining room, with a revolver".

Then, if (and only if) one of the suspects consents, Cary could confirm or deny the suspicion.

A simple "Yes" or "No"... No personal information need be revealed.

It could be like a Fairfax Underground Exclusive game. As long as the whole thing was confined to one thread, it wouldn't be so annoying.

And, to keep Cary from having to work extra hard for this little game, the answers could be revealed once a week... or once a month.

Whaddaya say, guys?

What if.....

eesh invites me over to watch him model his new summer bathing trunks? After the show, we start laughing about some FFXU shenanigans and before we know it, our laptops are open and we're both posting.

A sleuth accuses us of being the same person. If I agree to the IP check, Cary will say I'm eesh. If I refuse, the sleuth will assume I'm admitting guilt. So, either way, I become eesh...... and I'm a man again. How many sex changes can a person go through?

I'm sure Cary could see that a majority of your posts don't come from eesh's house. I bet hardly anyone uses the same IP EVERY TIME. Just because you post from the same location once in a while doesn't make you that person.

> If I refuse, the sleuth will assume I'm admitting

Pleading the fifth amendment in real life isn't the same as admitting guilt... The same rules apply in FU Net Sleuth. Although, it doesn't help to clear your good e-name.

Besides, the beauty of the "Only one person of the suspected party needs to consent" system is that even if you don't feel like consenting, eesh might... Assuming you two are actually different people.

> So, either way, I become eesh...... and

Naw, Cary is smart enough to figure out that you guys post at the same time from different locations more frequently than not... Again, assuming you two ARE actually different people.

Even if you were declared "eesh", it would only be discussed in the Net Sleuth thread. As soon as Net Sleuth is implemented, all discussions about posters' identities need to take place inside the Net Sleuth thread. Identity discussions outside the thread would be as egregious an offense as posting spam, porn, and/or DoS attacks.

You sir are the worst kind of offender this county knows. You are a window tinter, and a repeat tinter at that. Repeat offenders like you should have the book thrown at them, be locked up for a good long time. Three strikes and you are out!

What gives you the right to think you can tint more that the rest of us. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if everyone thought they should have as dark a windows as you? Shame on you Charlie Chan, shame on you!

How about only one asshole poster per house? If you have more than one you ban the house. Why else would using more than one username attract attention?

I'd agree with the proposal if anonymous postings went away, otherwise there isn't really a practical difference between more than one registered name vs a registered name + anon names, or many anon names.

is not about getting arrested or not case
is about privacy information being shared in the web without any consent.
not only name is posted , but address, sex, age,

Do you know how many maniacs are in there?
Plus, not all arrests are crimes, some are worst than others or viceversa.
By being arrested one time does not mean you are guilty.
Also,if you lose a court case it can be because you had a bad lawyer.

So don't judge people for a record. Of course it says a lot, but it doesn't say enough of that person until you really know them.

site is violating user's privacy information.

personal information can be easily be collected from this site and can address future harm as personal identity stolen. Not only at financial level, but in other levels as well.

Public information is not private, so there can be no violation of privacy. It is actually a pretty simple concept.

Talk to these folks - they post the information every week online. All this site does in put it in a searchable format - although you could arguably get a similar result searching within the linked webpage with your browser.

You no longer need to pay for cable or satellite TV
Posted by: Ann ()
Date: September 16, 2010 03:57PM

I recently ditched cable and hooked up a roof-top TV antenna. The digital conversion has provided a remarkably good picture (as good as cable) and there are additional channels such as three Ion channels, THIS TV, and RTV (a retro channel). I get 26 channels in total - and all for free. The antenna was $68 at Wal-Mart. I certainly don’t miss paying for TV!

not sure why you posted this on this thread, but i am curious about the channels you get. do you only get broadcast stations (such as WTTG, WJLA, WUSA, etc.), or can you pick up cable stations as well (such as ESPN, TBS, FX, etc.)? just curious. thanks
