Yes boys and girls, it's time for another redistricting battle. Fairfax HS and Lanier MS are owned by the City of Fairfax, yet are overcrowded because Fairfax County continues to bus more and more county students into them instead of building another school in the county. Over 65% of the students at FHS and Lanier are now bused in from the county. Fairfax City has had enough and told FCPS to move a bunch of these kids to county schools. But where to send them? Robinson is at the top of the list. Woodson/Frost will also receive a lot of bodies (now called "members") as these two schools have room for the trailers that will be needed.
As in past redistrictings, the staff recommendations are being closely held, and in some cases FCPS denies that they even exist. They have to go through "the process" first, which begins with a series of "listening" meetings. Yet some school board members have already been privately briefed, who then told their friends, who then told their friends.
Much is still unknown. Important issues, such as the catchy acronyms for the opposition groups, have yet to be decided. And who on the school board will play the role of Liz this time?
But some of the "official" information is available:

Building a new school in central Fairfax to alleviate overcrowding at multiple schools is not being considered at this time. Fairfax City wants these kids out in 2013, though FCPS is trying to push that to 2014.
Let the games begin!
