WHat to do when ten families live in single family home
Posted by: UNcle Sam ()
Date: October 30, 2012 02:41PM

WE have Afghan family living in our neighborhood. There must be ten or more people living in home. Cars coming in day and night.

They park 15 cars in driveway, grass. They drive through yard..They cook in garage and leave various appliances in their yard

First you say there are 10 families. Then you say there must be 10 or more people.

It obviously isn't the number of people or families that bothers you. It's that they are afghanis, and I bet you're afraid they'll go all jihadi on you or sleeper cell terror bomb you.

Get over yourself. Your neighbors aren't all that happy living next door to you, either. They posted this pic of you on another forum:

There should probably be maybe eight occupants max. Let the others know the county will give them luxury condos if they like at reduced rates of course.

Why eight max? That excludes the Romney clan. Are you saying you would evict the Romney's if they bought a home in Fairfax County?

+1 for the code enforcement angle.

No HOA to harass them about the parking on the grass?

I found the problem. You believe you live in Clifton. You really live in Centreville.

Either go native, or save up until you can afford to live in Clifton.

Call your Supervisors office. Fairfax had a task force looking into this sort of thing a couple of years ago and your supervisor might enjoy getting some positive press with no more work than calling the task force up and saying "look into it for me". Of course they may do so and find out that it is an extended family residing in the same residence, in which case you are SOL on that front.

Next option is if the neighborhood has a mandatory HOA contact them and file a complaint.

If you don't have an HOA your next opiton is to bring suit against them yourself for violation of neighborhood covenants or zoning rules. This means that YOU HAVE TO SPEND MONEY.

Whichever option you pursue, do your investigatory homework first. Keep a log of the cars that stay there and where they are parked. You may want to record comings and goings of occupants as well. Quite often these illegal rooming houses will have occupants who leave by 7:00 a.m. and arrive after 7:00 p,m. and most of the occupants will be young males.

Yeah, I know - too hard to do, right? Much better to start a Federal Case as the first step in these things.............

Written by someone who has yet to have it happen to them, then listen to the calls for code enforcement to do something.

Good luck with that. I told my HOA about the PAKI's next store that turned their basement into an illegal rental unit after the HOA said I was in violation for having some blades of grass growing in my driveway. They didn't do crap but I have to nuke the few blades of grass or I'll be fined.

Why would approaching them do any good? They are all living there for a reason and some neighbor talking to them about it won't do shit.

I think it is illegal to park on grass in Fairfax County. That way, you'll push their cars onto the street and become a legal nuisance.

Well you can be part of the solution, or you can learn to live with the problem. The reality is that given a choice, most people would prefer to sit on their own ass than have to deal with someone else's problem. At this stage this is your problem, not theirs. Make it easier for them to do something about it and harder for them to ignore it and they are more likely to do something about it. Don't just make a complaint; do the preliminary investigation for them. Show up at the HOA Board and Membership meetings and complain about the problem. Hell run for the Board yourself.

Okay. at least the cars are parked in THEIR driveway. Not all over the cul-de-sac or something.

It's a fairly large house, so 4-5 bedrooms? I think if each person owned a car, it would amount to about the 6 cars that are parked there...
Unlike white people, who like to have 1 kid and live in a 5,000 square foot home, I think this family is actually living in a home that would fit them.

Of course, if it is still DIRE. Complaining to the county would help

Also, pay attention to make sure they have trash service coming (look for trash cans out on trash night)...we used to have illegals in our hood that dumped their trash on the front porch..

Wow. I didn't realize there were people who had so much time on their hands that they count the number of garbage bags people put out each week.

Did it ever occur to you that they might take their garbage to a county pickup location on saturdays because they are cheap bastards who don't want to pay $60 a month for AAA?

Holy shit, you get all up in their business. Do you make sure they buy soap, laundry detergent, and toothpaste, too?

If you tell the county they will get evicted. I am a college student and they evicted us because we had more than three non related people living in the house. The neighbors called because they dont enjoy the parties we throw as much as our guests. Were not the only ones this has happened to either.

What neighborhood were you evicted from?

And a well-intended suggestion for you and other college students renting in neighborhoods with single-family dwellings: Give close neighbors your phone number and let us know we can call you (instead of the police) when your parties are too loud/too late and keeping up those of us who have to go to work in the morning. I think most people would prefer to try being civil in complaining and only escalate issues to police if you leave us no other choice.

We were evicted from a street right off of olley lane. We did give the neighbors our number but one refused to take it. We only had cops called once and were always respectful to the neighbors and kept our yard clean and mowed. I cant say I blame them for calling fairfax county we did rage pretty hard I was just making it known to the poster that they can be evicted.

It depends. If the house is located in a PUD (A neighborhood with HOA fees) then you call Fairfax County Housing to report a property where there is a occupancy violation. They get the police involved if necessary.

Living near an illegal boarding house is cool, my friend. Don't you like not being able to park your car near your own house because your neighbors have 20 adults parking cars on your street. Don't worry about the fire hazards inside your neighbors home and the tremendous amount of trash littering the yard. Having many young male neighbors who are in the country illegally is nothing to worry about since they are just doing the jobs lazy, stinky rednecks won't do. Fairfax County is blessed with enough beautiful diversity to sink a goddam ship.

My advice is to emulate your neighbors. They may not even be from Afghanistan but from a different bastion of health, progress, sanity and good governance. MAybe they are from Egypt, Pakistan, Yemen, Libya or even Northern India. They could even be those vibrant Gypsies we hear so much about.

Don't call the county and just submit to diversity. Oh yeah, you wacis. Take that!

recently was driving down Roberts Road past Robinson H.S. headed to Braddock. This area has a high concentration of townhouses. The shoulders of Roberts Road were packed with parked cars. I'm sure when these neighborhoods were developed the plan was not for the shoulders to be used as parking lots for people living in the thownhouses. You see this kind of stuff all ove the county these days. How in the world could county enforcement keep up with monitoring all the violations of too many people living in the townhouses

thus we have gridlock on our roads

You privatize enforcement by creating a bonded bounty system.

You set it up so that anyone who can prove that there are too many people living in a given house is paid a bounty of several hundred or a few thousand dollars. The county funds this by either criminally fining or entering a civil judgement against the property owner for the violation in some amount over the bounty paid.

So, for example, you fine a property owner $2000 - $2500 for running an illegal boarding house. The bounty hunter gets $750 -$1000, and the rest goes to the county for its costs.

The reason you bond the bounty hunters is to prevent them from soliciting frivolous claims. If one of their claims is bogus, they forfeit their bond, which is again used to cover the county's costs.

If there are repeated violations against the property, the county declares the property as being used in furtherance of criminal activity and uses the asset forfeiture process to seize the house, which it then sells.
