NBC4's Hurlycane Sandy Coverage

I don't understand NBC4's coverage of the storm...

On the one hand we have Jim Vance saying, "Ok, thank you Doug. It sounds like the shit's gone get real bad out there. People...listen to what the man is sayin'! Do NOT go out in this storm! {hearty ol' Negro chuckle} Alright...let's go to Pat Collins at the Giant grocery store in Kings Park..."

Pat Collins {using gay, melodramatic voice, syntax and intonations...you know...his regular voice} "Thank you, Jim. A storm? [pause] Brewing. Wind? [pause] Blowing. Rain? [pause} Falling. A city in fear? [pause] Citizens...buying...beer. Things are really out of control here at Giant...Toilet-paper? [pause] Gone. Bottled water for flushing your toilet? [pause] All sold-out. Batteries? [pause] Expired. Shelves? [pause] Empty. Back to you, Jim..."

I don't understand why they fucking tell us to not go out and then in the same breath they show footage of people...GOING OUT! If you don't want people out? Don't show footage of people out and about!

LOL, +1 for the Pat Collins transcript, spot on.

Pat Collins is one of the best things about disaster reporting in DC! No matter the problem, he can be counted on to really highlight the drama just by his inflection and cadence...

I've been going into grocery stores and buying odd stuff just to make the panicking hoarders look twice.

Went to the Giant in Vienna and bought a can of tomato sauce. The little 49 cent can. Everyone else had overfilled shopping carts stacked with water and toilet paper. The lady behind me asked if I was sure that would be enough. I calmly turned to her and asked "Enough for what? Are we going to be invaded or something?"

Hit the one in Oakton and bought 2 bananas. No questions, but baffled looks from the hoarders.

I hit all three safeways in Mclean. Bought a 500mL bottle of perrier at one, a bag of shredded mozarella at the next one, and a pack of dentyne at the last one.

Though, a little tip, I asked the dairy manager at safeway if he had any whole milk mozarella in the back, and he said "it's all on the shelf, we aren't getting another truck until wednesday or thursday." So if you are out of anything, better get it now before the hoarders snatch it all up.

Probably should have bought some batteries. I think most of my flashlights have dead batteries in them. Oh well.

OP is correct though. Pat Collins is the biggest DB in Washington. Always has been. He, like Vance (the sloth) is a survivor. but I can't understand how (and there are a few others -- Tony Perkins comes to mind).

I try to ignore all that hype shit but briefly settled on channel 4 in my channel surfing last night and witnessed Doreen having a brain freeze cause she'd run out of things to say fortunately the screaming Doug Kammerererer took up the hype and carried on with the sense of DOOM

It's irresponsible by tv stations but it's all about garnering ad revenue.
Problem being the cry wolf mentality will create what kind of situation if some whacky new arrival does succeed in letting loose some nastiness in the area
