You have the next 3 weeks off. Turn off your phone(s), do not check emails, and enjoy the time off.

The govvies can all stay home but the contractors don't get paid unless they show up, no matter what Mr. OPM says.

Yeah, don't worry. Since the contractors have to burn a vacation day when the feds stay home, the work will continue unless you have to be on site to access anything.

I worked as a contractor for years. If it weren't for us nothing would ever get done in the government.

My vacation days are worth about $525 each. Having to burn one needlessly doesn't come easy as unused they are like money in the bank.

As a contractor you know you get more done when all the useless feds stay home and out of your way.

I worked as a consultant for years. If it weren't us, the government and the contractors would get nothing done. They do say and do amusing things tho.

What BS? I'm making that much in exchange for the job security,
lack of accountability (and ability) that you as a govvy must
exhibit. C'mon, someone has to do the work!

But thanks for the nice house and nice car that I drive.
(How'd you know I drive a Bimmer?)
How's that 1950s split level in Herndon and Toyota Corolla
working out for ya?

Such a dirty mouth! Do you kiss your boyfriend with those
filthy lips?

No one forced you to be a contractor. You chose that profession. You have nothing to be...and I quote "PO'd" about.

Try writing letters to the parents of 19 year olds whose bodies were dragged through the streets of Tikrit so you could enjoy your BMW and knockin' the bottom out of divorcees. Men and women far better than you or I. Shut the fuck up and ah..."never forget who the FUCK you work for", shitstick.

You're right, I chose my profession. I have the utmost respect for the military, but not for the office cretins who man cubicles in the agency I support. Different class of humans altogether who could not survive a single day in the service.

I'm PO'd at having to waste a day of leave time for no valid reason other than a little rain.

The civilian govvies will be annoyed at having to try and surf the porn sites from home, with their wives and kids nearby, rather than having the privacy of their office.

And there are no stripes on my sleeve, Sarge. Watch yer tongue.

Since I usually telework on Monday I have to work otherwise I have to take leave. Unfortunately I always have power and internet outages with wind > 20mph so I'll probably have to burn a leave day while others who don't have to work get a free day off.

All you indispensible government contractors are going to be going over the fiscal cliff soon anyway.

Start packing, geniuses. You'll be back in Bumfuck, Iowa or wherever the fuck you came from before you know it. And good riddance.

Hopefully we will soon be bulldozing Mcmansions and maybe Fairfax County can revert to the idyllic place it was when I was growing up in the 40's and 50's.
Maybe even the dairy farm where Woodson HS is now will come back.

I work as a software developer consultant - if I miss a day of work it costs at least $525 (which is, divided by 8, less than my hourly rate over 10 years ago).

Jury duty - which I readily accept and do - is potentially REALLY expensive.

Having typed that - it comes with the territory - in exchange for somewhat higher bucks (with NO bennies) one accepts that now and then there are zero-income days.

I think it's hilarious to hear all the government contractors bitching. If it wasn't for the government your company and job wouldn't even exist.

You're complaint isn't that you think everyone should go to work tomorrow, but your pissed because your employer doesn't give any paid leave. Welcome to the free market that you claim to love.

Misery loves company. If someone has something that you don't, belittle it or try to take it away from them.

These dipwads don't understand anything except their own miserable lives.

The funny thing is this has been the Republican agenda since Social Security and other "entitlements" were created -- to destroy them all. Pensions are ancient history in the private sector, so now they are going after government sector benefits. Government jobs are also a target. It is their goal to privatize government jobs, not because of the myth that the private sector can do it better and government is wasteful, but because they want to own the companies that outsource government jobs. You never see the costs go down, they only go up once the "private sector" assumes government functions. Same with Social Security, they want that money in the market where they can shred it to pieces and make enormous profits from it.

Job security, benefits, unions -- they've done a great job of convincing simple minded tea party types that these things are bad. It destroys jobs or it encourages laziness. Of course, if you want to win the game of capitalism, you have to have absolute power over the means of production (which is labor, or employees).

Crabby,

Best presidents for me as a long time govie have had the last name of Bush. Bush 1 was great. He raised out pay and really appreciated our work. Bush 2 wasn't as good, but still we got raises every year and no real fear of shutdowns or other nonsense. Clinton sucked the worst. Obama hasn't been much better. Reagan was in the middle. of the Bushs and the two democrats.

I voted for Obama last time (figured Clinton was an anomaly). I will be voting for Romney this time. There's lots of us govie that will switch this time. Won't matter in Maryland. Might be enough to guaranty VA for Romney tho.

So, what will you worthless gov't employees do then? You're so used to just approving what contractors do for them for change control, that you'll actually have to do the work and be completely lost.
