Will FCPS school close for Hurricane Sandy?

With a possible historic storm on its way, FCPS should close on Monday! What do you think?

Why not? The admin is already pussified and prone to knee jerk reactions to a little moisture.

As a former FCPS student and now the mother of four FCPS students, I am nearly positive that school will be cancelled Monday and Tuesday. Why do I think so? FCPS has already sent an email reminding parents to check the usual sites for closing information. Also, the weather reports indicate that we'll have high wind alerts and we're now under a flash flood alert.

Students in trailers/modulars are unsafe during high winds and they'd have to be in the main school during school hours. At my kids' school, about 150 kids would have to cram inside an already overcrowded school.

I also can't imagine the huge fleet of buses being out on the roads in the midst of the storm.

Power outages could be widespread - that alone is enough to cancel.

I'm convinced.

I agree with the mom 100%. I just cannot fathom having students going in buses with 50 mph winds and having students having classes in the trailers and so forth. I think that the winds can knock over any elementary student at any time. Because of this, I am convinced that we will not have school Monday and Tuesday.

I am confidently booking a Hurricane Party with friends. Shows you how much I believe that schools will close. Too much liability for FCPS to hold on their shoulders.

Of course. Pussified parents would bitch and complain if it was not canceled. Mon-wen no school.

Where shall we go? What shall we do? I can't imagine teens trapped inside for three days.

Seriously, any good ideas?

If the power is out for several days, I'm thinking about going out of town.

Look parents, I know you're used to FCPS raising your kids, but the ultimate decision on whether there is school (for your kid) rests with you. You decide.

Rain, snow, wind, or nothing at all, YOU decide!

So the wrath is about to begin soon! Who's ready? And is FCPS really gonna close Monday if gusts reach 35 tonight?

A friend forwarded this to me a few minutes ago...looks like no school Monday and Tuesday.

Subject: Weather Decisions

Based on the weather forecast, we will be announcing this afternoon that schools and offices are closed tomorrow. We further will announce that schools are also closed Tuesday but that a decision about offices will be made sometime Monday. All field trips, after school activities, etc., are canceled for Monday and Tuesday.
Sunday activities will proceed as planned.
As always, I intensively dislike making these decisions based upon forecasts but the size of this storm does not leave much room for doubt.
