So if I'm reading this right: the parents are complaining that the school is too small and needs to be expanded. But at the same time they're complaining about the lack of "green space" around the school. How exactly are they supposed to make the school bigger without making the grounds smaller?

This sort of logic is the exact reason why soccer moms should not be allowed to vote.

Looks like there is a photo of an angry mom now, pointing her finger at a school board member. I didn't see that before.

The answer is simple: the complaining parents should purchase several of the neighboring homes on Haycock road and Mountour drive, demolish them and relandscape them, and donate the green space thus created to the school system.

Tallying it up, they could buy the 6 closest homes for about 4 million dollars.

Or, if they don't have 4 million dollars handy, they could always shut the fuck up.

How does a road and a school get named Hay-COCK? I mean, I'm all about preserving history but, there's no one alive who remembers the Haycock family who likely beat their slaves on the land that school now sits on...

Probably doesn't have sufficient foundation to build up.

For example, most older, maybe all, telephone buildings were designed with foundations sufficient to build 7 story buildings. Of course this was before the age of digital comms, which eliminates the need for all the equipment the old systems used.

Even if the foundation was ok, the building was probably not designed to hold another floor on top of it. They'd have to close down the school for the year while the first floor was reinforced and the second floor added.

+10. People are so self centered that they don't understand that they can't have everything. You gotta rob Peter to pay Paul. Idiots.

Keep fighting folks! By the time you get your way, little Johnny and little Sally will be getting their AARP cards. So typical of the BMW driving, liberal Obama-loving assholes who live in that school district! They want the best, and they want it yesterday.

They could just throw some of them trailers on top of the existing school. They gotta be lighter that a second floor, right?

Greatschools says Haycock has 677 enrolled. That's wrong. Actual enrollment now is 858. The school's capacity is 570. The entire 5th & 6th grade classes are spent in trailers. Current 1st grade classes have 28 kids with no teaching assistant. Next year they'll have 30+ kids in the 1st grade classes. Haycock will easily be 300+ over capacity next year. In a couple years it'll also be a live construction zone. Public schools all over Northern VA have been pushed beyond the capacity of their old, un-renovated facilities. As well the key to Haycock's perceived greatness has been that it is an AAP (gifted and talented) hub. Fairfax Public Schools has recently implemented a plan to have all schools in the McLean HS feeder triangle utilize the AAP curriculum. FCPS has to do this because of the overcrowding at Haycock. Haycock will no longer be unique for its AAP hub. Many parents will swear that Haycock is the best blindly ignoring the school being 50% over capacity and that their kids spend most of their days in modular trailers. You should Google Haycock overcrowding & do your own research.

Actually, dumb fuck, the enrollment is 956 kids, and people still want to live in that district, rather than where you probably live.
