Did anyone else see the Car sticking out of the wall of Washington Sport Club 11001 Lee Highway last night 10/22/12 around 7ish? I was wondering what happened.

Everybody saw that wall, except the person who ran into it.

What happened was a car drove into the wall.

Driver Slams Into Side of Office Depot Building
No structural damage. No injuries.

A driver lost control of her vehicle and slammed it headfirst into Office Depot earlier this week. No one was injured.

The incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Fairfax resident Sarah Major captured the wreckage while driving past the scene and submitted it to Patch.

Sunday's crash had no structural affect on the building, though the same can't be said for the car.

"There was no structural damage to the building and no damage to any electrical wiring," Fire Marshal Andrew Wilson said. "The car happened to hit the building in a place where there had been a door before. If you look at the picture you should be able to see a difference in the bricks. Pretty lucky overall."

Police did not file a report because the crash occurred on private property, there were no injuries and no charges filed, said Warren Carmichael of the City of Fairfax Police Department's public information office.

Alcohol was not a factor, Carmichael added.

If I accidentlly lose control of a rock and it goes thru the window of a store no police report right? it's on private property

I always wondered about this. Police cannot enforce a lot of traffic and parking laws on private property. That's why you'll see abandoned cars sitting in private parking lots forever. But what about handicapped parking? Those signs list fines, but can the police actually do anything?

I guess maybe if the property owner/agent requests it?

Seems to me, they could (and should) charge the driver for losing control of the vehicle.

I would have thought so, too. But obviously there is some limitation for private property.

They can give you a ticket for cutting through a parking lot to avoid a traffic signal, and the handicapped signs threaten huge fines. But if you drive your car into a storefront, according to that story, no charges.

Of course there are other ramifications (no pun?) for damaging private property, but still.

Maybe the owners decided not to press charges because the driver gave them
a brand new emergency exit for free!
