Electric Car Chargers Installed at Tysons Corner Marriott
The charging stations are complimentary for hotel guests.

By the end of the year, 11,000 electric car charging stations will be installed across the country and, according to the Washington Business Journal, two of the newest are located right in Tysons Corner.

Guests at the Tysons Corner Marriott can now charge their electric vehicle's in the hotel's parking garage, the Business Journal reports in a recent article.

Shelly DiMeglio, general manager of Tysons Corner Marriott, is quoted in the article, "By providing this complimentary service, we engage our guests in practices that protect the environment. At the same time, we assist guests who have adopted cost-effective transportation in a tight economy."

Northern Virginia has been rated one of the "best" (most environmentally friendly) areas to charge electric cars by the Union of Concerned Scientists, the Washington Post reported earlier this year.

To find other places to charge an electric vehicle (by city or ZIP code), go to the Alternative Fuels Data Center website run by the U.S. Department of Energy. http://www.afdc.energy.gov/fuels/electricity_locations.html

No one travels in electric cars for any distance and Tysons Marriott charges for parking. Who's paying?
No free wifi either. Marriott promotes green technology now that it is profitable.
Mr. Romney has been on the Marriott board three times and prices rise while service declines.

Marriott has always invested in green technology for tax breaks. And PR.
Mitt Romney got Marriott in a little trouble in 1998 with the IRS.
Marriott is basically a good hotel chain but highly overrated and always playing catchup. PR is outstanding at covering incidents and problems.

Most electric cars need single phase/240 volt for charging. Some have 120 volt spare cords for emergency charging but at a cost of longer charging time and higher amps which will trip most circuit breakers, Just not vibrator friendly. And driving range varies so they are not practical for trips and hell with 495 congestion.

But nice publicity stunt for a hotel. Use your pickup and bring the dryer for free drying during your stay at a wonderful convenient Marriott. There are 6 Marriotts within a 4 mile radius of Tysons.

Porn and drinks are compliments of Mitt and Bill

If we can somehow get just 3% of commuter cars on electric gasoline prices would drop 15%. This is the wave of the future anyone who buys or leases a plug-in electric vehicle is a true american hero.

I'm all for electric cars but please, a "mobile solar power generator for an off-grid 110V charge"? Don't count on going anywhere for a long time if you need to charge your car from that thing. Assuming the car's batteries can handle the inrush required for a much faster charge, why don't they just do it right and connect the charging station to the building's 3-phase 480V service? Otherwise, it's just a gimmick.

I think off grid power will have to continue to be gasoline for now. Really the only way to collect solar power is to put it on the grid. I collect solar energy at my home all day every day and sell it to Dominion power. The power utilities are required by law to buy my power and I hope that does not change.
Remember also that these car batteries are DC. in order to charge the batteries from an AC source the power must be converted and that means waste. A solar power supply outputs a DC current that can charge the battery far more efficiently but that could take days or even a week depending on the output amperage of the solar powered charger.

How are we going to collect highway taxes from these idiots that drive but do not buy taxed fuels?

I'm putting forth new legistlation to tax the hell out of this "Green Energy". That electricity's gotta come from someplace! That means higher costs to the consumer because the electricity to charge those batteries comes from our coal plants.

Fact is that if you drive on the roads you must help pay for the roads. The hybrids that do not plug in still get all of their power from fuel. Plug in hybrids and plug in all electric cars get some or all of their power from the electric company which has no highway tax on it. Sounds to me like the plug in hybrid owners are already in violation of federal law, they are just as guilty as the farmers that were making bio-diesel and using it on the highway. Some of those farmers got jail time for that shit.
I am sure the IRS is working on this problem as they already have a form for people to pay their taxes on homemade liquid fuels.

If everyone switches to Electric cars doesn't that mean that coal plants have to work harder to produce more electricity? Electrical utility costs go up? Poorer service right? Help me out here...?

So Marriott wants to assist guests who adopt cost-effective transportation options? Then where is the complimentary diesel fuel dispenser for people who drive fuel efficient diesel cars? Where is the complimentary gas pump for people who drive Honda CRX's that get 50 mpgs, better than the Prius, etc.

Despite previous reports, Diesal is NOT good for the environment...

Diesel engines are notorious for being poor emitters, producing some of the strongest cancer causing agents in air pollution. California, New York, Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont all have regulations limiting their sales due to the amount of pollution they produce.

With that said, they are also fairly efficient compared to standard gasoline vehicles, and typically travel much further on one gallon of gas. Based on this fact alone, diesel engines have become more popular in the US (they already are more common in Europe than here), and engine modifactions and changes in diesel fuel have lead to an increase in the cleanliness of the vehicles. Many diesel owners now use biodisel as well, a renewable fuel produced from any number of recycled components such as restaurant oil waste. Thus, if a consumer is using the modern, cleaner diesel engine, they are not only more efficient in the use of energy, but they are using renewable sources as well, thereby minimally impacting the environment compared to a similar vehicle without a diesel engine (Mercedes, for example, offers some vehicles with either diesel or regular gas engines).

I didn't say good for the environment, I said cost-effective, which you agreed with. So where are the complimentary diesel pumps?

Funny how the rightards who are so against taxation will use a bad form of taxation as a defense of oil.

We can't have electric cars because the federal government uses gasoline taxes to fund highways! Yeah! Fuck those electric cars!

FUD. Pure FUD. If everyone does this one thing and everything else remains the same, yes, there will be some problems.

If you can only conceptualize one idea at a time, the argument seems to have a lot of merit. We should stick to oil for our transportation energy because its too hard to think of all the various changes necessary to reach the future.

Every argument against implementing new sources of energy depends on everything else remaining exactly the way it was in 1972.
