10 bucks an hour, i'd imagine, and probably not more than 25 hours a week.

Hourly associates typically make about $7-$10 per hour depending on the store. Managers make significantly more and can make anywhere from $40,000-$70,000 depending on level, experience, etc. Most associates/cashiers/sales people will work about 15-30 hours a week, but maybe more during the holidays. Managers work 40 hours per week in most stores. Overtime is typically discouraged as it costs the company more money and they would rather hire another person than pay you time-and-a-half.

Yup, that should sum it up for the OP. Straight answer.

Its not enough. I saw an Asian girl that works and also lives in one of those kiosks at Fair Oaks Mall.

I worked retail jobs a long time ago. Not sure what the hourly rate is anymore, but I know the department managers and store manager get monthly bonuses for meeting sales quotas. Usually a percentage of the total sales.

So, for example, Sports Authority would have a $100k monthly sales goal, and the GM would get something like $5k for hitting it, and more for each 10k increment over.

Funny thing about 20 years ago, some of the big box retail chains had unrealistically low quotas based on national sales averages or a lack of understanding of the unique nature of this area, so it was a cake walk for the managers to exceed their quotas around here. I'm sure that's changed by now.

20 years ago you could afford a one bedroom apartment on that job. now if you rent the same apartment today, the price has doubled at min. It's not easy out there.

agreed.

Well, you could afford a 1 bedroom on that pay if you weren't a partier or didn't knock up some girl. Or, if you were smart with your money. I knew people who couldn't manage on that, back then. Can't imagine what it would be like for them today.
