Driving with a gun

I keep my gun in my glove compartment which has a functioning latch when I am driving in our state. I make the trip up to New Jersey to visit friends and family about once a month. So far, I leave my gun at home but I would like to take it with me if it's legal. I drive through Maryland, Deleware and New Jersey. From what I understand, in Maryland I can keep the gun in the trunk of the car so long as it is not concealed and I can prove that my final destination is not in Maryland and I do not make any unnecessary stops. I do have a VA CCP and the only state of the three that shares mutual recognition is Deleware. I plan on leaving it in my trunk. My final destination is New Jersey, I plan on leaving it in the trunk of my car while there. I don't even know if NJ grants out of state CCPs. Anyone have any experience with traveling with your gun to New York or New Jersey?

if it's unloaded and in the trunk and you arent a felon, then I'm not too sure what the problem would be.................

Please do yourself a huge favor and read up and completely understand the laws about transporting your firearms in each state you travel to.

It is illegal for you to take your gun into NJ as your final destination without first obtaining a NJ Carry permit or Firearms Purchaser Identification Card. NJ is one of THE MOST restrictive states for firearms.

Gun in the trunk and any ammo or magazines separate, like in the glove box.

I keep my gun in my pants and leave the weapon at home. If the weapon isn't accessible within 2 seconds then it is useless. Don't put yourself in potentially dangerous situations. How many times have you had to draw a weapon and fire? How many times have you had to avoid an auto accident?

You have to keep it out of reach.

You can't carry it while there.

Why bother?

Diminishing returns. Look it up.

I havent been to Jersey to hit AC in years, now do my gambling in Charles Town or save up and go to Vegas.

The tolls in that stinkhole state are unbelieveable.

This is what I was beginning to understand. I had trouble with this:
"The person's possession of the firearm will be lawful in the state in which the journey will end". Thank you for the link, I will look into getting a CCP for NJ.

@OP - you are an alright person - and one of the ppl who has helped me not look at ALL gun ppl as "gun nuts"

just thought I'd throw that out there. If there is one thing Fairfax Underground has seriously done for me personally, is make me see that not everyone who likes guns is a crazy dumbfuck, which this time two years ago, I thought was and ironclad guarantee LoLz

Kind words sir, thank you.
To me FFXU has been insightful if you can sort through the roughage. Plus the pictures and memes make it enjoyable.
