Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I have been trying for off and on since this morning to pay personal property tax on the web site for the county. They are having issues - this is the most recent error message:
Connector error '800a151e'
Connector:Connection failed or server refused connection (request might exceed MaxPostSize). HRESULT=0x800A151E - Client:An unanticipated error occurred during the processing of this request. HRESULT=0x800A151E - Client:Sending the Soap message failed or no recognizable response was received HRESULT=0x800A151E - Client:Unspecified client error. HRESULT=0x800A151E
/dta/epay/inc/utils.inc, line 158
I have no idea what it means except that I can't pay my taxes. Below is another message.
We are currently experiencing intermittent issues with our online payment methods list below. If you experience problems, please try again later. Online payments are on-time as long as they are made by midnight tonight. Alternatively, payments made by mail are on-time as long as they are postmarked by 10/05/2012. There are no plans at this point to grant a blanket waiver for late payments. Thank you for using one of the many payment alternatives to ensure your payment is on-time. The County’s Department of Information Technology is still working to isolate and resolve the system problem. Thank you for your patience.
It seems to me if they are having "issues" then the time to pay online should be extended.
that will teach you for waiting till the last minute to pay your bill, you sound just like my ex-girlfriend, but if you were her you would not worry about paying it and let it go to collections.

I tried a couple of times this morning and then decided to write a check and have the post office hand cancel it so that the date was correct. If nothing else I get a few more days float on my $700 snce Monday is a holiday and I doubt that it will be deposited until Wednesday or Thursday.

Had to bring the fact you had a girlfriend once into the thread. And you pay early. The tax is due on the 5th so the county should be able to handle. I pay taxes to the county for professional services.
Please be sure to pay on time, Sharon Bulova needs the bucks to pay for more luxury condos for section 8 folk. Everyone is entitled to a club house, weight room and an indoor pool. Everyone that is on welfare, for those paying the freight just keep your mouths shut.

Last minute - you got the waiting right. I am a firm believer in holding onto my hard earned money. lol
Web Pro - thank you for the info. I am assuming that they just weren't ready for most of us to pay the same day.
TomMadison - I did the same thing, wrote the check, went to the post office and had it hand cancelled.. But it was a pain and as Out of Taxes said professional services should be given in the county.
My kid just paid the bill for her car. No problem with the site, But they charged her for a car she sold 4 years ago!! & charged her a late pay fee of 10 bucks before she was late. Fairfax County sucks!

Agreed. No explanation except the budget is going to fall short again.
Jenny, only thing I would do different is try another browser. A server issue is out of your control so besides trying later after they have fixed it, there is nothing else to do.
WASHINGTON, 6:30 p.m. - On the deadline to pay car taxes and registration fees, Fairfax County's online payment system is experiencing issues processing payments.
County spokeswoman Merni Fitzgerald said the county was experiencing "some intermittent problems with our payment system" but that some people have been able to make online payments.
The county added an additional third-party payment option to pay by credit card Friday afternoon, but those options required payment of an additional service fee.
Payments also made at Global Express locations or Shoppers Food & Pharmacy stores before midnight will be considered on time.
The county has no plans at this point to grant waivers for late payments, which come with a 10 percent penalty, plus interest.
Payments received more than 30 days past the due date are assessed a 25 percent penalty
Update: People can now go and make payments on the county's website. Due to the processing issues, the deadline for payment has been extended to Saturday, Oct. 6, at midnight
Yea yea I know pay your tax early I certainly did, but really this EFFIN County that calls itself a premier place to live can't even take tax payments without any issues on the last day.
A few years back it was due in December. People bitched it was too much money so close to Christmas. The county being the kind and understanding folks they are moved it to October. Some favor they now get our money two months earlier than before.
today is oct 6. Trying to make payment and receive error nul error. The site is still not working correctly. What are they going to do about the deadline for oct 6 when the system is still not working?
You will be charged a late fee, that's how fairfax rolls. If you don't like it, too bad...I'm surprised people have not revolted against this bullshit car tax. nothing but robbery.
Well it's either the PP Tax or a County income tax, you pick. You've got property taxes paying most of the freight but they've got to figure out a way to get something out of the renters. Don't like it? Drive a heap.
I know plenty of people who buy property in southside Va and register their car there thus avoiding the oppresive county taxes and also the emissions requirement.
I pay what I owe here but its tempting.
Maybe I wasted an entire childhood going to school but isn't one of the reasons we went to war in 1775?
Then again maybe a whole lotta of people died for nothing.
"we won't be fooled again" was just a song.
Lord Fairfax was bloody fuckin british.

we are getting fucked by this so called car tax. vote the fuckers out of office. This is nothing but a legal way to steal money from your wallet.
I would rather have to fight a guy who try's to mug me on the street than just hand over my hard earned money. at least you have a chance on beating up the mugger.
we are being mugged by fairfax county, and if you think the system all of a sudden crashed on the tax due date, your mistaken.
But if your an illegal hispanic and get paid under the table, you have nothing to worry about. your check is in the mail...I'm tired of this shit!
Be somewhat thankful what you pay is not even the full amount. The state kicks in to lower the tax. Gilmore ran on that platform to eliminate the tax once and for all. It was supposed to be phased out over five years but Fairfax bitched and moaned they needed more money to waste so now you pay a percentage of it.

Are you sure its only Arlington and Fairfax that have to pay the vehicle tax?
Like for emissions:
The counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, or Stafford
The cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, or Manassas Park
The rest of the state does not have to have emissions tests done on their cars, it wouldn't be right if we were paying extra taxes because most of the money the state taxes us goes outside our area anyway.. but I wouldn't be surprised.
The elimination of the car tax was state wide. Being full of democrats there is no way counties like Fairfax and Arlington couldnt stand not bleeding the taxpayers dry so it never fully went away.
Which is why I wonder how Connolly keeps getting re elected. He was in charge when they pulled the shell game on real estate taxes during the housing bust in the early 2000s. He lowered assessments on homes but raised it on land values. My real estate taxes actually went up during this time.
What a crappy site, I lost my bill and have no idea what the property number is, now their service is down and I can't look it up? Last year I was able to look it up just fine! I fail to see why I should be punished for waiting until the last day, because I'm still trying to pay on time and it should not be my responsibility to predict when their server is going to go down because they can't handle the load. Since when was it necessary to assume a bill payment server will go down on the last day it's due??

Maybe if you didn't but that bmw and bought something within your means you would not have to worry.

guess what fuck face, pay it a few days before it is due and this problem would not exist.
Please be sure to pay and fast. Sharon Bulova needs the money so those on section 8 get their luxury condos while you pay $2,000 a month for a one bedroom closet of an apartment.

What a dumb fuck. Gilmore's "plan" could only work if State revenues kept climbing. They didn't. The State can't "kick in" money it doesn't have. The Great Recession is why the "plan" stalled. Nothing to do with Fairfax bitching and moaning.
Like the other guy said up there, either pay the car tax (which you can control) or go with a local income tax or higher State income taxes. There's no free lunch.
I can't believe people are so fucking stupid. This stinking fucking country is doomed.

There is a price for all those things. Your dignity.
When you vote democrat, you're voting to raise your taxes repeatedly. Libs like Sharon Bulova and Gerry Connolly will never be satisfied until the tax rate is 100%.
Below is the response I got from my supervisors office:
Hello and thank you for your email. The problem was brought to our attention by the Director of the Department of Tax Administration and we were advised that notices for alternative methods of payment had been included on the website. There was also the alternative of paying by mail as long as it was postmarked October 5. The system had been utilized for high volumes of payments before and the problem was difficult to identify so alternatives were quickly identified on the website. We apologize that the most familiar method was unavailable but with the alternatives offered, there was no justification for accepting late payments. Debbie
