You don't need to go to San Fran to find hipsters overpaying for grilled cheese. You can just walk three blocks from the aforementioned hot dog place and go to the Space Bar. Their menu is packed with grilled cheeses.

There is even a DC food truck that sells nothing but grilled cheeses. I think it is called The Big Cheese or some other equally cheesy sounding name

I've never seen a hot dog restaurant survive for more than a few months.
Years ago some idiot (a chef) went to France and studied gourmet hot dogs
and then came back to open a place in Georgetown called "Hot Diggety Dog".
He managed to stay in business for three months and even that was a miracle.
No matter what you put on it, it's still a hot dog.

G'Town rent vs rent in a rundown strip mall decrepit building are two different things.

Besides, the menu seems it indicate that have more than just hot dogs.

I'll probably give it a try.

I guess all those hotdog carts in the city should just close up and go home? A hotdog food truck is perfect. It can move when business slows down and the local traffic gets tired of hotdogs.

Precisely. That's why a sit-down restaurant can't make it with hot dogs alone.
Windy Apple might be on to something with burgers and pork chops but we'll have
to wait and see.

Thanks for your review. I will give it a try.

We can tell you are not from around here, so I edited your run-on sentence:
I stopped in for curiosity to see if they can live up to the cities they say their food is from. I had a beef sandwich and a chili money dog and to my surprise the taste of the food was truly authentic.

p.s. I am from NY, the Brooklyn area and my fiancé is from the south side of Chi-town. I sincerely give them thumbs up.

I hope that helps you.

I went on Saturday.

Great dog, sublime brown mustard.

Incredibly floppy fries though. Yuck.

Limited drink selection.

Kind of expensive.

Great atmosphere though.

Not sure they will make it with those prices, but who knows what the rent is there?

Two questions...

1) How is the relish on the Chicago dogs?

2) Will they put ketchup on a dog if requested? If the answer is 'yes' then they really should not be calling themselves a Chicago dog place.

A bit of a hike, but may be worth a trip when I have a craving for an Italian beef.

Okay, heating up frozen hot dogs is not anything special. I say less than one year and the wind will passeth over it, and it will be gone.

It is just not a 'hot spot.' They are located right next door to what used to be called the "Amigo Market" by the sign that still exists there.....good luck! And besides, some of the best hot dogs you can buy at any grocery store. I don't need some dude from Chicago or New York to handle my meat, so to speak.

Perhaps a hot dog stand would have been better.

I always considered grilled cheese to be something they throw together if you don't like what's on the menu. Bread, cheese and whatever grease they have laying around near the grill.

What could the next food fad be?

We just had a rush of new pizza places, burger joints, and yogurt shops. What's next?

Down economies always seem to bring on a rash of investors looking to take advantage of empty retail space and cheap labor. There's opportunity in obscure or untapped food niches right now. Get one shop going good for 6 months and you can get a national franchising operation funded pretty easy.

Chili? over rice, over noodles, with beans, without beans, ground turkey, ground beef, sirloin, bison, venison -- lots of options there.

There is a grilled cheese restaurant in Falls Church right down the street from the hot dog restaurant.

You are about 3 days too late as the Space Bar has already been mentioned. You may know it all, but you are late delivering it. Your like the pony express in the internet era.

Jesus loves hot dogs too. Here's the proof:
