I love that. An answer you'd have a hard time finding anywhere. Thanks Len!

Cite? My understanding was more that it was simply for styling. The feds mandated what was allowed for a long time. Until sometime in the 80s, there were four choices: single or double, round or square (square were newer, duh).

http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?47396-Quad-Headlamps-in-1958-Model-Year-Cars-So-Common-Why has some detail, though it isn't definitive.

Does anyone have photos of the Central Motor Company in the 1970's or 1980's? It was located at 7238 Fullerton Road, Springfield, VA. This was actually down in Newington near the I-95 interchange.

Thanks, Brian

Elementary and intermediate . I went there for 7 years 3rd grade through 9th .I didn't like it .It was a school for handicapped children. I liked my teachers to much and they let me go . Joseph Willard Health center was in front of the school where they took children for exercise and such . Tried at times to get back in touch with some of the classmates but none wanted to get to see anyone.

Speaking of Dart Drug, does anyone remember when Stewart Udall a former U.S. Congressman and Secretary of the Interior was arrested for shoplifting at the McLean Dart Drug in 1971? He was cleared of the charges when Dart Drug later declined to press charges:

There was a Fotomat behind the 7/11 on Rolling Road at OKM. It was closer to the Rolling Road Mobil (Now Sunoco). The Fotomat structure is gone.

There was one in the Pickwick shopping center near the Mobil, which I think is now coincidentally a Sunoco, maybe... Anyways, it's where the post office sits.
It became a FedEx drop-off office, and was something else in the interim.

Also mentioned was then by the old Fairfax Hooters, which was a coffee shop for a period after the photo place.

I am sure there were others, those were the ones I could remember.

People's Drug was purchased by CVS in 1990, and the name on People's locations were changed in 1993-1994 to CVS.

Beacon Mall had an inline Peoples like this, but the mall wasn't two levels. Anyone have interior photos of Beacon Mall? Shopped there often but haven't seen any indoor photos online yet.

I worked at the Peoples in Merrifield in the late 80's and early 90's and have a different recollection.

From Wikipedia.....

"In 1988, the mall was expanded to add a bottom floor..."

"Founded in 1905, Peoples was subsequently purchased by Lane Drug in 1975, Imasco in 1984, and finally by CVS in 1990, which continued to run the stores under the Peoples banner until 1994, at which time the stores were converted to CVS, marking the end of the use of the Peoples Drug name."

Any teenager who was driving around Falls Church in the late 50s to early-mid 70s probably met up with Len Campbell. He was a city of Falls Church cop back then when the city only had two or three cop cars. He caught us drinking beer in my dad's car one night but he didn't bust us, he took us straight to our parents which might have been worse than getting busted by the law.

Tyson's had a partial lower level before the whole thing went 2-layer. The partial thing had the theater entrances as well as a couple restaurants. I can't remember what else.

Maybe a early type of Breath Alcohol gauge? It has a moveable needle to measure something.

Although he has it hooked up to a Ford Econoline Van, and the engine cover is right there in the center - He might be checking the compression.

You are correct. The original "lower level" was for delivery vehicles and such. Then was converted for retail etc. before being expanded and made an entire lower level retail space.

Exactly, tons of original content FROM this thread is posted on facebook with no credit given. A few pics get pushed the other way and all of a sudden the facebook idiots get all butthurt.
How about we all just enjoy the memories either here or on facebook and not be so petty?

Ah yes, the good old days when parents actually cared about what their kids were doing and were willing to take action to change their child's behavior when they were acting out and the police actually being willing to help rather than just turning everything over to the courts to handle.

The first car looked like it was going slow for the video and was packing traffic up starting with the truck that came up on him fast. That was in the first video.

I thought the second video looked like the Memorial Parkway leaving Mount Vernon, heading back into town.

That’s cool. Everyone knew when you came upon city or town limits, they were waiting for you. The roads - 29/211, 7, Route 1, would travel at 45, 55 mph and drop to 25 within city limits (I think that’s what the sign said). Lee Hwy and Route 50 between the Circle and Gallows remind me of those old roads. The 45 mph seems to me a left-over speed limit from those days. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I like to go 45 through there but no one else seems to be able to get up to speed. Today’s traffic in that area really does call for 35 mph. Although I hope they don’t ever change it to that. [deep sigh for the old days.]

She really was an interesting person. Married well, one of the first women in that circle to have a tattoo. Also had an affair with King Edward VII.

The first one is probably Rt 1 or 235 (the road that leads from Woodlawn Plantation to Mt Vernon.

The second one is probably the Parkway.

I can't really tell, to be honest.

By the time I was a kid the area had changed so much.

Pre Pentagon, Fairfax County only had 25,000 people in the whole county, lol.

Cool photos. I had been to that "Roy's" a few times back in the '80's, when my brother used to live down Rt. 15.
I always liked and respected Roy. It's a shame that he had to be surrounded by such a "bodyguard".

Regarding the immature maggot slime that posted the offensive image. I am not sure if i feel sorry for them or disdain. The fact that they are such a nasty person as to enjoy being offensive to others that are trying to be mature and helpful of others. The fact that their life sucks so much as to have to take it out on other innocent people. Other people whose lives might not be any better than theirs, but are mature enough to not blame everyone else, and to take it out on everyone else.
Don't try to flip the page by long posts like on page 67. I went back and counted how many posts are on each page, and they counted 100 for each one. So, the shorter the posts, the sooner this page will reach the next page.
