Who remembers camp 30? I think it was at West Ox and 29-211. There was a riot and mass escape there in 1964.

I read somewhere that making these little diners (like Mighty Midget in Leesburg) was a post - WW-II effort to use up scrap B-29 bomber fuselages. Sounds reasonable to me!

That's interesting. It would be more fun to use an entire B29 and convert it to a restaurant!!! Remember Victoria's Station and eating in old train cars?

DAJAX yes that's where Camp 30 was about across from Costco near the county garage is today , it was not there way back the dump was not there either till the later 70's it was off Popes Head Rd near the Fairfax County Parkway . There was a kindly young road gang guard nicknamed "Boss Man" who carried a old double barrel 30 inch Parker 12 gauge loaded with skeet shot who let the cons find beers and smokes in the roadside weeds left by GFs and women as long as they did not bring them back cept the smokes to the joint and finished them off on a hot day . The shotgun was to shoot snakes and such not the cons BTW in the days the state only provided a small badge . But did they know that LOL If they ran they would be found and they knew that too with 5 more on their time for escape possible and ol DAJAX used to shoot some trap targets right by where the drive in was back in the woods way back

I ran into a old high school friend this week and we got to talking about Fritzbees back in the day. We used to go in there and have about 6 or 7 beers then order the "Bartenders sandwich". I don't even remember what kind of sandwich it was but it would sober me right up. Anyone remember that?

James Stevens was the young 18 yr old hostage taker lured out with ice cream and pizza after many hours no one was hurt but he did fire a shot inside the school into the ceiling.

New info on this he gave a interview in 2018 and there's a You Tube video of him telling what was in his head. He has changed physical quite a bit he was slimmer and had longish styled light brown hair then . He now is trying to make others see what he did is not the answer to their troubles he was sentenced to 4 years in prison . I wish him well.

There was a bar off Rt 7 in Tysons Corner that had 1/2 and full yards. Might have been Mr. Smiths? The thing that sucked was the waitress would stand by the table while you drank it to make sure your drunk ass did not break it!

I was a short order breakfst cook at that Holiday Inn mid 70's. There was a Cuban refugee that washed dishes there named Jose. He was from a wealthy family in Cuba before the Communista and Castro destroyed his life. He lived in the motel one block north under the cliff. We could not communicate and I could not help but feel sorry for the old man.. I dont know how some of the waitresses lived counting the tips at the end of their shift. I was in high school and it was all a party for me. I saw some strange things there at 5 am when i got to work. There were 3 brothers that worked there from Hybla valley that were legendary.. I dated the woman of my dreams that was a waitress there before she left for college at Auburn U.

Route 1 south just over the PWC line. There were a number of small mom and pop attractions down that way that started shutting down after Kings Dominion opened up in the mid 70s.

Pretty much the same layout it had through the early '80s. What I didn't know when I was there 1974-76 is that the section at the east end, closing the courtyard, wasn't original. historicaerials.com doesn't show it in 1964.

Yes they also had Giant department stores for awhile to try and compete with Memco.

Racist . That's what young punk leftist idiot brainwashed Democrat retards would say today.

Its a southern heritage of southern birth or growing up in the south , not a "lets bring back slavery thing or lets hate blacks ".

Any of those young people in that bus pic back then would have given the shirt of their backs to a black who needed it and one looks like he did

That pic of the cars in Rock Creek is why they were named heaps soon after they got 50K miles on them

No later than 1972, since that is when US Esso switched to Exxon.

Yep. Remember when the place used to be completely packed at Christmas. Couldn't even get in there. Traffic would back up onto the highway. Had to park in a gravel lot across the street where the Big Lots is (or whatever is there now).

I say mid-1960's. The wagon is a Rambler Classic and neither of them have the 1968 mandated side marker lights...

As when that Tysons Marriot café had those AYCE spaghetti dinners on Wed nights for about 6 bucks with 2 types of sauce plus meatballs on the side a big salad bowl and bread sticks and hot breads

It was dammn good

DAJAX Hey Marriot to hell with the bottom line get another café back here will you

Why does that pic look like Landmark Ahh the S&W café ! Baked spaghetti with that garlic bread and a salad

So sorry they had to overdo it and lose millions upon millions when they had a good thing going until their heads swelled big and they expanded, expecting women to park in that ugly Crime Parking Garage without a snub nosed 38 in their handbag

That almost looks like Wisconsin Ave in downtown Bethesda to me.

Possibly Broad St in Falls Church?

But I think Bethesda

This month's #InsideFCPD features our Resource Management Bureau. Vehicle Fleet Management is just one of the sections inside the RMB bureau. Take a look at this old fleet from 1971!

I know they used to have enduros for running the trails but I haven't seen those in years (maybe decades). Did FCPD ever have horses?

Yes, that was on Edsall Rd. It became an NTW/NTB afterwards and is near Pickett (Pickett Rd is on the backside of this dealership)

I am not sure what's in the building now, but they closed around 1988 or 1989, maybe. Or slightly after.

The Chevy Dealer mentioned off Wisconsin Ave/ in Bethesda was Chevy Chase Chevrolet, and where I bought my first car.
It's now an Acura Dealership now.

Research shows the Chevy Dealer mentioned above was in Hyattsville

You are 100% correct. Thanks.

The place I was thinking about was called Kline Chevrolet on Edsall Rd. near Pickett.

And the Chevy Chase Dealer became the Chevy Chase Acura store.

the girls "might say something they shouldn't" -- like the Club 1320 is a front for prostitution... Looks like 4715 Richmond Highway is the same place as where the Fancy Dancer was located.

I'm sure Seaman Recruit Bradley's mother loved having her son's completion of basic training notice placed right next to the story on the titty bar.
