Since you are spending so much time here Damien, I’m sure you’ve noticed the difference in tone from the other threads. Here we don’t argue. We discuss the local old pictures posted. We go next door to argue over useless, ignorant and many times vulgar, dribble.

Why not play nice and try to get along with others? You might find you like it and we might like hearing what you have to say.

Good catch on the 1966 Pontiac Bonneville Station Wagon. It looks to have a few years on it. I am going to guess winter of 1971 because the Pontiac looks kinda beat up.

If it is the winter of 1969 that car wasn't treated very well. This was back in the day when you had snow tires that were put on in the fall, and removed them in the spring.

Great photo.

The plates are black numbers on a white background, so that picture was taken in an odd-numbered year, right? Or did I get that backward?

Where was Fitzgerald's store? I can see a tall electric utility transmission tower in the background. There's a power line that parallels the RF&P, but the towers are different.

White plates with black numbers/letters were odd years, black plates with white numbers/letters were even years. This continued until 1972, when the 1973 plates were changed to white plates with blue numbers/letters and the yearly update decal.

I have only vague memories of Fitzgeralds. As a kid my Dad would take my sister and I there for ice cream cones once in awhile. I do remember that when Franconia road was widened they had to move the store entrance to the side of the building. I found this article from Patch.

Because of the 2nd photo Fran posted about how Fitzgerald's closed on May 8, 1972 and both photos have a the same 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire, I'm going to say the photo was taken early spring 1972

Kinney Custom Care MINK OIL.

Price: $2.00

I used to buy this stuff by the case for my hobby.

Purchased at the Kamp Washington Kinney shoe store.

Where were you overseas that you learned to use the term "Cheers"? One of several places, which clearly indicates your government affiliation...although you think you are being cute. Keep going.....Can't help yourself anymore can you? You feel the need to be recognized for your service and not die a lonely old unrecognized man. You have nothing in your life but your time with the *****. Sad.

Wasn't that where the Route 50 3 Chefs was located? If so then I had a number of nice pancake lunches there when I was growing up. In the days before IHOP 3 Chefs was the go to place for pancakes.

I can not confirm nor deny that I ate pancakes at the 3 Chefs in Annandale? More familiar with IHOP and Denney's. One of my favorite places for "flip jacks" was the Virginian Restaurant, in Vienna, @ 169 Glyndon Street in the early to mid 80's.

Ever got a complementary free round, of 18 holes of Golf, because someone died?
Well, me and my former Dart Team Captain J.D. (first and last name withheld to protect the innocent, and who was my charity golf tournament friend), did!
Pleasant Valley Golf Course, September 9th, 1998, on a weekday, approximately 9:30 AM. Trying to break up the monotony of protecting this great nation after so many years.
We are getting our golf clubs out of car trunks and a ambulance shows up and nearly drives over the 18th green, which would have destroyed it.
The manager for the course, is jumping up and down like a jumping Jack, and waving and screaming to the crew, to stop before the damage is done ($ and muchos dineros).
We show up at the trailer club house, and they tell us well have to skip over the 18th hole. Someone drove there car into the lake, and did not come out or swim out.
So we are told, to start on the 10th hole, then skip over the 18th hole, and finish the round to the 9th hole. WOW!
Club house manager gives us, 1 each, coupons for 18 holes at a further date. Images included here.

Never used mine (coupon), don't want the "GOLF GODS" to bring retribution upon me, for being so callus, to accept the offer on someone else's demise.

Cheers.

Awesome poster provided by Old Iron ()

Subject: 1969 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS 396 COUPE

Here we go again!

I'm attending George Mason University in 1975, as a freshman (part time). Sharing an apartment in Fairfax, with one another Mason student, and . . .

a young fellow who was in the construction trade (he was in his mid 20's).

Shameful, but I can not remember his name, after 45 years. But I can provide the address in Fairfax, based on my GOV employment resume: 10320 Layton Hall Dr, Fairfax, VA 22030

Yet, this fellow owned this vehicle (images included, it was darker green, in color). I never asked him how he could afford it, or where he purchased it.

So you might ask yourself . . . or not, why am I relaying this information?

Because this COUPE had a electrical malfunction under the dashboard and the car burned up before the fire department could save it.

Only time in my life, for any reason, that I wept for the demise of a piece of steel and plastic.

Cheers, oh, . . . it's really a recurring nightmare, which I can never forget.

Front disc (or disk) brakes were optional. They were optional on full-size Fords in 1967 as well. Maybe other models too.

67 was the year Ford , GM and Mopar went with locking steering column locks , they were far to easy for punks to hot wire dash ignition switches and take on joy rides before . Vettes Camaros and Mustangs were the fav of the still existent greaser holdovers who were the pre weed smoked long haired hippy joyriders lol DAJAX

It must be said the long hairs had much better taste then the greasers in their choice of "hippy vans" heading to the beach with hippy chic's , but I could not join in with them and their weed but my choice was a perfect one a blond haired blue eyed German girl lol

I know Cas and Sleepy will claim to be in that ad , but secretly one of the blonde haired surfer dudes who did not have a sloppy belly was me when I was I lived in So Cal way back and one of the blonde haired bikini girls has mine now for a long time , But we never inhaled just simulated it like Bill Clinton and Hillary ! Im a very jealous man don't touch just look but keep your distance ,no sweet talking !

1969, I think, was the year for that. I had a 1967 Ford. It did not have a locking steering column.

The photo was taken late 1967 or very early 1968. The Mustang is a 1968 GT.

Great photo of Koons Ford.

Look for the clues to date the picture.

This site about Ford Mustangs says it was 1970 when Ford started using the collum locks and GM in 1969 I swore it was 67 , some time back then Ford started with a key with cuts on both sides that was in 1966 And GM started having different keys that would not fit all the locks in 67 ..it's been a long time pals DAJAX

You can try it here:

Not sure if these buildings still exist, or what their exact addresses were.
Maybe someone else recognizes the buildings if they're still around.

I grew up in McLean for the most part, in the 70s. Learned to drive there, McLean HS driver's education. Drove a Karmann Ghia, green with burl-wood interior and black seats.

We went to Evan's farm inn as a family for weekend brunch or dinner every couple months, usually around a holiday. Their prime rib was really good. I frequented the place later in life as well while working or visiting in the area. They served weekend brunch in Sitting Duck Pub as well as the main dining room. The pub was cozy.

Spoonbread baked in a stoneware ceramic crock has always been a holiday tradition in our family, for many generations. Making it always reminds me of Evan's Farm Inn. I still make Spoonbread following the family recipe which is close to Evan Farm Inn's recipe. Our traditional holiday meals as a kid had two crocks of Spoonbread, one with oysters, one without oysters.

I was one of their last customers, before they closed. The place was pretty much a constant in my life for over three decades.

Who is old enough to remember the Gulf gas station "extra kick" plastic horseshoes that they gave away with any purchase in the 60s and 70 s? My Dad used to buy gas at the Gulf statiob on Old Keene mill road in Springfield and I thought those horseshoes were so cool.

We must spread the word of Ruby Cockburn's crimes against nature all across NOVA. Hello fellow citizens of Northern Virginia, we are the PARC (People Against Ruby Cockburn). From what we've seen from the way people have been reacting, law enforcement isn't going to solve this problem. Ruby needs to either rot in jail or die.Justice will be served, this is for Keenan Peck who was framed for a crime he didn't commit, Katie Jobson who was harrassed by Ruby and Aaron Collins who was doxxed by Ruby on Twitter. Ruby will be dealt with by any means necessary.

@cockburn_ruby/r8n-a-tr0in-onme we will bring you to fucking jail and if you turn out to be a real person and everything about your family is true, we're going to kill you and the fucked up ass people who raised you into thinking sexual deviancy like pedophilia, necrophilia, incest, and zoophilia are okay.
