That's a 1973-1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass parked in front of Rich's Studio, which is now, what, the pet grooming place? It's hare to tell from the back. Maybe the bumper can narrow down the range of years. 1973-1975 Cutlasses had two round headlights. 1976-1977 Cutlasses had four rectangular headlights.

The Great Falls inn. It was told that the place was burned down once the federal government seized the land to create the Great Falls national park.

Yeah I grew up in Fairfax city then moved to Burke in my teens. We thought going to Centreville or Manassas was a long distance trip to the "country" and going to Warrenton required a overnight stay at a motel!

I know this pic has been posted earlier in this thread. But thinking about old Centreville reminded me of this place that sat on the lot where 7-11 is today at route 29 and Clifton road. I think George had about 5 motel rooms which were primarily used by truckers that were bringing freight in and out of the DC area. I think they still have the gravel parking lot behind that 7-11 where the big trucks would park.

On second thought I see a Ford Maverick in the picture that would put it at 1970 or later. Unless it was a brand new Maverick that was purchased in late 1969.

Was there a Chinese Virus in 1969 ?

The lot looks like Loehmans "sic" Plaza where the Giant is still today , long before weed smoke must have caused someone to dream about a Sign or a Whale or how to spell Lohmanns

The Maverick was either douche parked or was in motion when the picture was taken. Maybe it was douche parked because it was in fact brand new and the owner did not want a door ding.

I had forgotten that the Giant was on the same side of Jefferson as the Cinema Seven Theatre. It moved across the street at some point.

I saw the Godfather at Cinema Seven, almost fifty years ago. YIKES!

George was kind of a dick. When his wife was working she would sell us beer even though we were a year or two underage. I heard he saw a kid shoplifting a Hershey bar and he went after the kid with a broom , took the kid out to the parking lot and beat his ass with that broomstick. George was old school and he did not take any crap from us young kids.

It was on Jefferson Street between Leesburg Pike and Columbia Pike in the Skyline area.

FYI - There is one of those boundary stones in the median on Jefferson Street coming up the hill from Columbia Pike towards Leesburg Pike.

I saw Jaws at the same theater back in 75. It was in the Pike 7 Plaza, just west of JKJ Chevrolet. There was also a Pants Coral in the same shopping center.

Nope. Definetly Leesburg Pike Plaza on Jefferson Street. The photo was taken from across the street in the parking lot of Crossroads Place. Much has changed over the years but you can still see the taller section of the building above the roofline on Streetview.

I had forgotten that too. I think I saw "A River Runs Through It" at that theater. Was that theater in operation as late as 1992?

The building the Giant occupies is not on the 1980 imagery, but it is there on the 1990 image. So, sometime during that 10 year period! Sorry I can't narrow the timeframe down.

Falls Church Garage Garage was a DeSoto/Plymouth Dealership located at Lee Hi-Way and Hillwood Ave.

Photo looks to be about 1957

I believe that sticker does say Washington National Airport. The "H" just looks messed up enough, with added rust spots, to make it look like an "L".

Speaking of Chili Macs here's two fine examples . The first from the Vienna Inn

The second from famed truck stop slop chute cook DAJAX then a picture of the famed Lil Inn in Vienna which DAJAX says beats the other "Lil Inn" sitting on top of a big hill in Washington Va hands down with cold beer to drink not fancy wine to swill eating small amounts of fancy looking expensive food . At least he knows what pizza chili dogs and chili macs are . In all fairness he does think "That Lil Inn " is a very swank "joint" inside and out ! Some day Chef Patrick McConnell may learn from DAJAX how to make great truck stop food , he will have to enlarge the lot natch for the 18 wheelers No wine Hot 100 mile coffee and a lil cold beer for those not driving ! Slot machines and handgun vending machines would be appreciated if Virginia wakes up some day

Its a nice sunny Saturday , head on over to the Lil Inn In Vienna for a Chili Mac , when you get inside Yell out loudly "How About Those Skins" Like they all did back in the 60's 70's and get a real good laugh from the crowd at your expense !

If you head to the Lil Inn On That hill in Washington Va, be advised that they will reopen soon with dining room mannequins to keep the joint from looking empty as they will adhere to the CDC guidelines for "social distancing" a PC term for "Get the hell out of my face punks" ! Yes the Chef likes Dalmatian's who doesn't !

Read about here in Washingtonian about the "Lil Inns" mannequins and reopening

https://www.washingtonian.com/2020/05/12/inn-at-little-washington-chef-will-fill-his-socially-distanced-dining-room-with-mid-century-mannequins/

"Lil Inn " name given to "The Inn At Little Washington" By FXU posters in prior threads LOL!

Last time I ate at the Vienna Inn was back in 2010. Chili cheese dog was not like it was back in 1981, something has changed.

Left sad and disappointed.

WOW! Did you trigger a memory.

Back in the late 1970's a discount food store chain operated here in Northern Virginia - It was called Plus.

They opened a location in the closed A&P Store across the street from the old FHS.

The products Plus offered were less than Grade A and as a result they went under in the early 1980's.

Plus sold canned beer in a white can with black block lettering that simply said "BEER"

Never drank that crap.

I showed that picture to my uncle who grew up in Vienna. He said Freddies cafe was a black only place. He said they served family meals till about 6 pm and after that it was all alcohol sales. Not sure what year this was but my Uncle is 92 years old. He said the cops had to go there often to break up fights or pick up drunks.

the Vienna Inn made its money selling kegs on the weekend, mostly because they never carded anyone. That's right kids, your parents used to buy beer under age by the keg.

their hot dogs always sucked

That the man going in was black. In the 50's and most of the 60's blacks and whites did not mix anywhere not just in the south. California LMAO forget it ! Democrats out there hated blacks even though many never had even talked to a black man. In Virginia there was a silent mutual respect by decent people here who were Republicans . Democrats supported Jim Crow poll taxes and segregation

I remember it. I went to Holy Spirit school across the street. They had a whole bunch of thick trees and bushes out front and you could only see it in the winter. I don't know what happened to it.

Yes there was one in Springfield mall and one in Tysons. The first picture might be Tysons, I'm not sure. The second picture is just a random picture off of the web.

The tower is still there. It is actually in Tower Square and it is a Christian Broadcast station located on Hillwood Ave.

The Vienna Inn had a house policy of not serving beer to anyone not 21 when it was 18 . I never drank a drop of beer in there until I was 21 . Yes they checked IDs to buy kegs . Mike was not stupid nor did he want a bust or a law suit , the ABC kept an eye on the Inn as they were a top beer seller. Mike made plenty of money without underage sales , spread your BS elsewhere

The beer consumed at most "Kegers" held by the students of Madison, Marshall, Oakton, and Fairfax High Schools was purchased at Vienna Inn via a Straw Purchase or someone looking the other way.

Just ask Steve D The Democrat Fairfax Commonwealth who will not prosecute narcotic users sellers and buyers , so there's no conviction and no information going to the NCIS to keep them from lying on the federal form 4473 and saying NO on question 11e about their narcotic use and then buying a gun with their lie

Strawmen are good men to Democrats so what's the bitch about Vienna In again ??

The beer sales were legal , can I help if you hit me up at the Vienna 7-11 in front of Madison with a offer of 5 bucks to get you some beer , when you saw the badge and smiled when I said no , you hauled ass laughing at me LOL

Mike sold the kegs not help, he checked ID it was his business, his ass on the line for the fine and the loss of business . No I was not with the ABC I never checked Mike not my job unless he was out on I66 in a 427 Vette at 71 mph up , but I saw him sell many kegs on busy days

"Of all grocery-store dinnerware ever produced, Royal China Company’s Currier and Ives is, by far, the most prolific. The dishes were produced from late 1949 until 1986 when the company closed. They were produced in the most popular color — blue and white — as well as rose, green, black and brown. There are a multitude of patterns and all are based on famous Currier and Ives prints from a bygone era."

Even make my own spaghetti meat sauce ones with round aluminum pans with foil paper lids from Dollar General but TV dinners are salty, still not as bad as a fast food chicken dinner or a can of soup. Most have 1300-1500 mg sodium and they are a portioned dinner for the fatties to lose weight

Speaking of soup bring back the vintage Swanson's TV Dinners with the soup LOL! Bring back the German The Polynesian The rest of the old favorites Swanson Listen Up will ya ! To old DAJAX !

Had my first long ago It looked like this one the first then the rest of the best

I could easily eat three of them but for the killer salt ..Ditch the heavy salt Swanson ! Pick Up sales stupid ! Salt lick freaks can put in on after cooking

SALT makes you hold water girls , makes you look fat ! LOL

Sweet and Sour Pork and Chicken the fist I ever had back when ! With Rice which we said was a cheap thing to put in there

The brothers, Vinnie & Joe had a very successful restaurant in Woodbridge on Richmond Highway (US1) and then decided to open in Fairfax County. They got a steal of a deal on the lease of that building on Leesburg Pike (Route 7) just off Columbia Pike in Bailey's Crossroads.

The building had previously been a 'Red Barn' restaurant which had closed. Another fun fact was that it was located west on 7 next to the old 'Mount Vernon Bank' building which had been converted into the Penguin Feathers Records & Tapes Bailey's Crossroads store.

The item that sold out the day in the summer of 1982 when they had their grand opening was called a 'Hippy Roll.'

They went on to open several locations but by 2007 all had closed except for one in Arlington neat Balston on Old Lee Highway near Ballston.

Vinnie passed away several years ago sadly.

I went to HS church in the late 70's...seem to remember that house, they had a pet Spider Monkey?

And then, there was a small office building on the back side of King Park shopping center that the word was Muhammad Ali was a part owner.

Also remember a Redskin player, I think it was Roy Jefferson, lived nearby, and he had a sweet van all decked out with him painted in his Redskin jersey on it
