I've been searching the website Garage Hangover for garage bands from Virginia.

https://garagehangover.com/category/country/us/virginia/

On January 5, there was an article about a group called The Roaches. They were from Springfield.

THE ROACHES “SOMEONE WITH A HEART” ON SPRINGFIELD

https://garagehangover.com/the-roaches-someone-with-a-heart-on-springfield/

If the photo doesn't attach correctly, here's its address:

https://garagehangover.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/RoachesSpringfieldPS.jpg

>>>>>
The Roaches came from Springfield, Virginia in Fairfax County. The band’s members were:

Leon Norton, Jr. – vocals
Tony Taylor – vocals
Craig Mossman – lead guitar
Johnny Holiday – rhythm guitar
Tom Kelly – bass guitar
Perry Holiday – drums

The Roaches made one single in 1964 with the fine vocal “Someone With a Heart” backed with an instrumental, “Night Life”.

There are many more pictures and a video:

If you expand your search, you might be able to find all sorts of groups from northern Virginia, DC, and Maryland.

Happy New Year

Two problems I see. You must not actually listen to the show because Buzz has not been on TMOS for over six years. As much as I would like to be able to discuss TMOS, this is not the place. You are just being a petty asshole, jealous of the success of this thread, and you want your white space and huge picture friends to fuck up this thread. Don't be a dick dude.

That looks like Fairfax California or some place with nice single story homes

Ill guess Fairfax Villa

"Pacific Bell" In Fairfax LOL

The only thing we know that's true is that Van became a beads and flowers and heavily curtained "Hippy Van" by 1969 filled with pot smokes heading To JIB for those tasty Jack Taco Munchies with either Cas Sleepy Greybeard or Old Man DAJAX at the wheel and maybe Blanches face peeking out before 71 and it had a bumper sticker

This photo is on multiple sites. All of them point to this being a Pacific Bell or Bell South (Southwest) van, probably in Van Nuys, California.

It was the last Memco built in NOVA . It looks like the Reston one by the hill to the right Memcos also had gas stations and supermarkets inside like todays Target's and Wal Mart's They had a nice sport8ing goods section too with real guns TVs the works , you could get almost anything from Memco plus auto parts and "Charley The Watch Maker" in The Fairfax Memco in his little glass shelved work both Not to be mistaken with "Tommy The Matchmaker" at that Snobbish Liberal Lizard Lounge Bethesda Yatch Club who threw me out because I looked like a Hillbilly with a greasy food stain on my shirt

DAJAX Charley Was Known Far and wide In NOVA back then I don't know if the current Charleys Watch shop is owned by Old Man Charley or his kin

In any event he was not the black Charley who sat in his chair on Pickett smiling at all the people passing by ..another long story cept to say Charley once owned land in the city and it was taken so the Mayor Silverthorne authorized him to live in the trailer on city property

No Old Pics Of Fairfax would be complete without a pic of Charley whom waved and was waved back at by thousands

The Cash & Carry at Rt.50 and Centreville Road used to sell rolling papers, pipes and such back at that time as well. I guess they flew under the radar because they were still doing it into the 90's when I left the area for a bit. They were also fairly cool about selling us Mad Dog and Boones Farm without checking our ID's!!

When that part of Fairfax was about 15 minutes from the Beltway at 2 am but never when it was 7 minutes away . 6 of those minutes were for lights at Tysons

DAJAX Went by Lake Fairfax many times in my travels never went there or Timber Lake or Lake Accotink either LOL

Wrong. That's the 14th Street Bridge Hot Shoppes, which was right across from the original Washington-Hoover Airport.

The "WE FIX FLATS" sign would be appropriate at the office of any plastic surgeon in Herndon...

I looked up the original post, from the end of December. It's at http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/2/1009677/3263338.html#msg-3263338

I don't recall that most Hot Shoppes featured Art Deco details with as much prominence as this one does. Were there other Hot Shoppes that looked like this one?

Further, that photograph looks like something that came from the Library of Congress's HABS/HAER project. I'll take a look.

If anyone else wants to give that a try, start here:

https://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hh/, or better, here:

https://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hh/index/places/

Thanks for all the photographs. This is a great thread.

Wow, what a great photo.

I lifted a few more pics from Find A Grave - Here is his head stone 100+ years later.

Charles Scott died in 1898

The Washington Monument isn't seen n the head stone photo because monument is to the photographers back.

Moves out southbound at high speed on Shirly Highway after a White House delivery of the best of the best with a get away in her shine sleeper Ford V-8 with both of her 4 barrels wide open on the 64 Ford 427 dual quad engine dropped in by moonshiners as she heads south with to reload with shine , a pack of feds behind her trying to shake her down

In the pic in the rear A Hippy Weed Bus of the future filled with feds in the rear and damm if that's not Ralph Nader driving a smoky smelly Corvair in the mix of heaps that today would be worth a half million bucks , obviously summer with the smog note the county tags on plates paper licenses back then no computers for cops , that's why they had the black one year white the next plate colors to spot outdated tags

DAJAX The feds were wheeling it after one for the road with no seatbelts and metal dashboards back in the day but she left them in the dust at Duke St outrunning even the VSP with that big Ford V-8 under the hood

DAJAX Yep its a rifle range . Note the tall trees to block the gunshots sound on full auto fire with M-14s in the day . Nova once was a place real Americans lived

Sgt James W Robinson who earned the Medal of Honor posthumously in Vietnam went to Annandale in 1958,they don't have his yearbook , but I found these folk in the 57 book

Huddleston Library was a dump later used by GMU for parties not then as GMU was barley visible in 69 it was in its infancy like me at times when I hear what's on TV downing Trump who is my main man

Dajax, how is Trump your main man?

After all, from what I see from you here in FFXU, you live in a trailer park, drink hobo junction beer, and basically seem to have nothing in common with Trump and his Mar-A-Lago, jet setting, millionaire ++++ crowd...

So, how could he be doing anything for folks like you, while at the same time, taking care of his uber rich pals?

You really believe he gives a fig about you, other than your vote?

Democrats no longer will defend this nation its borders our soverignity or our people, they are consumed with a socialist communist agenda they call progressive, the only thing that's important to them now to achieve that is a vote at any cost to this nation, as time goes on many more people will awaken to this fact and so many of them today are the young easily manipulated people who like promises of free college and other social wishes we simply can't afford today for numerous reasons other then it's the Democrats that drive the deficit up no matter what they may say to the people , with excess welfare even to the point of allowing it to be granted to immigrants who come here for it and so many other reasons.

DAJAX now be nice and post in the forums any other questions or rebukes. I will try to do the same as this is the only truly decent thread on FXU other then some of the good threads about....

Food. I did try to start threads about old cars and hot rods but that died fast

"I do not support civilian ownership of weapons of war that are unnecessary for hunting or self-protection." Sen Scott Surovell statement in his blog about firearms . - A totally anti 2nd amendment pandering unconstitutional statement if there ever was one to take the rights of Virginians away . Regulate Never Ban Scott that's the law of the land, I cite the US Supreme Court in Heller vs DC and McDonald vs Chicago , speaking of civilians you put in exceptions for police having "weapons of war" , there not US military, SO Scott your also a LIAR with your statement and that's exactly what the founders of this nation in Virginia and all the states would say to you .

Scott never read the 2nd amendment , or he is too stupid or he's too partisan a Democrat to tell you what it says , some lawyer he is . Nothing in the 2nd is there to hunt animals, as far as weapons' of war the founders allowed the people private ownership of cannon the most powerful weapons of war only designed to be used on a battlefield . Scott has got a lot of BS with him with his views offered only to support the Democratic party, not YOUR Constitutional rights! Today its the 2nd whats next Scott ? If you can infringe upon one right in the constitution what's stopping you from infringing an all of our rights.

He's just another self serving constitution bashing Democrat with the same agenda I spoke about , these people hide under the cloak of "reasonability" .We the people either have a real constitution that means what it says or we don't , with 27 amendments at this time . Our US Constitution is the life blood of all of America, designed to protect all our freedoms as Americans . Amend it and ratify it , its been done 27 times , change the 2nd amendment in the manner the founders provided legally under the constitution Scott or Shut your mouth up with your unconstitutional acts .

Its pure liberal Democrat anti gun anti 2nd amendment anti constitution anti rule of law propaganda , it sums up nothing as the founders allowed cannon that could kill 50 people in one minute and that's not a Democrat fairy tale its a fact , smooth bore cannon have never been regulated by the federal govt or Virginia, pioneers towed them across America to defend settlements , people have them in their yards , the founders wrote the 2nd to protect the American people , just as they wrote how to amend and ratify the constitution , that's not a fairy tale either , its been the law of the land since the last of the 10 original amendments were ratified by the last state Virginia on Dec 15 1791.

That amendment was the 2nd amendment , the only amendment in the constitution with the strongest words of all to not disturb the right it conveys "Shall Not Be Infringed"

The problem is not with the right to keep and bear arms by law abiding Americans , the problem is the mass murdering maniacs who have been mostly spawned within the last 40 years by a progressively liberal society , common criminals who rob and kill have been on earth since time began and will always been present they were swiftly executed so they could not kill again in years past ,now they live in prisons ready to attack anyone they can and kill at will due to liberal Democrat justice Now post about it all in the main forum as you wish DAJAX Wake Me Up When Dylann Roof is executed or James Holmes or Malvo or the Florida punk or ….infinity , but I cant sleep forever yet , its going to be never just like the killing by maniacs guns or trucks or cars or butcher knives or poisons or aircraft , what ever they will think up, the evil genie is now out of the bottle released by liberals slowly over the last 50 years

These things happen from time to time. This condition is easily corrected. Put on a short skirt and pumps, Head to Dupont Circle. Stand on street corner with a sign draped around your neck that says Curb Service on the front and Help Wanted on the back. Occasionally sashaying through the crosswalks. It may take awhile.
