Night Running

I live in Herndon and was wondering if there are any safe well lit places to
run after dark? Tried to get to the track at Herndon HS early summer, and it was a maze of gates, fences and padlocks. I don't mind travelling like 10 miles or so.

Good news citizen,
Thanks to the generosity of public utility, the good citizens have the option to run on the highly developed W&OD trail in the suburban heaven of northern Virginia. For night runners there are many options, I have labeled the trail for you, you seem to be right in the middle so theres tons of fun in either direction. Carpe Diem citizen!

The W&OD trail is probably okay if you have a head light. I've been on it at night before and the only strange thing that happened was that I surprised a raccoon which was eating fruit that had fallen from a tree and it kinda growled at me.

Cop cars drive down the W&OD at night and they will tell you get get off the trail.

The cemetary across the street has an elliptical track. You have to be careful of the caretaker. We got chased off one night while filming a remake of George Romero's Night of the Living Dead.

Ranger Rick, awesome map! Can't decide which one I will check out first. As for cops riding up and down the trail kicking people off, thats rather lame. But ohh i guess they're out catching the rapists, murderers and hit-and-run drivers.

Why take a chance at getting raped, murdered, kidnapped, hit by a car? Come on now, is it really worth it to run/jog at night?
