RE:Bring Back "Soundry Vienna" To Help Build Arts & Science Culture

Some of you I hope know that "Soundry" facility that was located opposite the Vienna Railroad Station Park no longer exists.

They lost their lease to the place that once hosted local music bands to practice, 'show and tell" , and place that had classes for various art forms for kids and adults. They had a little cafe there for artistically minded to come and collaborate, learn and teach.

Jennifer and her spouse who ran this place as a small business many years were wonderful host and talented artists themselves.

Question: Can we bring back Soundry Vienna ?

Answer: Yes we can. We need a Soundry Support Circle. There are funding available via "core" federal grant/matched by foundation/county participation possible. But gotta have a will and support of the Vienna/Fairfax community.

Knowledge, wisdom, and trust are valuable resource that can be strengthened by the Saturday Morning "Breakfast Eat and Talk" as we did before for a number years at the Old Country Buffet at Faifax and a similar place in Bethesday on alternate months.

No one minded paying the $5 at entry for a sumptous breakfast at this popular place where we reserved the backroom for 9:30 AM to 11:30 Am that bring together people with mostly technical entrepreneurial skills, for example, quite a few ieee.org members, and some of the otther technical society members that are well represented here in Northern Virginia Washington DC Hub.


Now I understand the cost is about $6.00 per person. It's worth it to go do a test run with your lady or children to this place and see if you like the food and appreciate the affordable price for the wonderful choices of food all you want to eat.

RE: A Valuable Event Next Wednesday, May 8 at University Of Maryland College Park Campus for Multi-Discipline Oriented to Life Science Microbiology Topics

Event is free but pre-registration required with host, ASM_DC Chapter (American Society for Microbiology)

ADD: Avi is planning to attend this event and is a member of ASM_DC Chapter.
Last year's lecture on MTB is most inspiring and valuable and has important implications for early diagnostics and therapeutics development based on existing scientific research around the world. I will take the Metro to College Park Station and then take the free shuttle.

I'm just curious, has anyone from any of these forums ever contributed to or attented any of these events? Are they for real?

I mean, the descriptions and purpose of these events are so vauge and unclear, I can't imagine anyone has ever participated, have they?

Oh my gracious golly yes, I have both contributed to Avi (who is a real cool stud fellow), and I have attended his much exciting events.

I suggest that you loosen up your wig, come to a show, and bring some rupees for the cause!

Conversation: Yea, I did these events for more than two years before as a community service activity when I was the President of ieee.org Entrepreneurs network and beyond that as a non-profit, 501-c-3 a small group us created and did the monthly events for several years as a community service.

There are still people around here who remembers these events. Why don't you ask Robert Shumaker, A former Vietnam POW who lives in Fairfax Station, VA and came to our annual Long Week End event at Outerbanks NC where we rented 5 house and had enjoyable speakers, while enjoying beach stroll in between, and evening music events we did for about 50 or so person who attended these once a year event.

You could also ask Bob and Inga Kolodney in DC . (Bob is an Attorney) . He and Inga were host one of the nights I remeber at outerbanks and hosted us all to a very nice Austrian supper that they cooked for all of us.

Cafe Twin is an extension of what we did before via the entrepreneurs network , now we have new tools and skills that we did not have before.

You could also send an email to Mario Morino (Morino.org) whose foundation had sponsored some of our event in the past. Mario now returned to Cleveland, OH. But at that time he lived here in Fairfax, VA.

In fact, Mario's "Venture Philanthorpy Partners' (VPP) is the design and inspiration for KEPPS (Knowledge Economy Philanthorpy Partners) I have designed subsequently but with some improvements as I know and Mario did not know when he did VPP

Topic 02: Arts and Science Bridge Update

I think there may be a problem for residents in Vienna to participate in a meaningful way via the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, as this Chamber is dominated by some very big business organizations.

The name of this Chamber as I found out yesterday while searching for a Chamber of Commerce working on "community redevelopment" similar to the Annandale Chamber of Commerce, that has a excellent perspective on small business and residential associations .

The Vienna Chamber is called Vienna Tyson Regional Chamber

I am now going through their last two newsletters to see if I can find some points of contacts to understand their vision and protocol for Vienna Arts and Science Bridge and whether the companion topic we have started discussing few days ago, ie, TED TALk Fairfax DC Metro can be discussed with interested members of this chamber as well if possible.

Trick to Punjabi Food, is always have a Yougart Lassi to go with your meal or afterward.

It's a "wisdom" well known by people of India as well as Non-Indians who love Indian Food.

A Mango or Peach LassI (Yogurt Drink) is heavenly with Punjabi Food and settles your stomach pretty well, better than eating a beef steak !

Update: Ok, while we learn how to enjoy Punjabi food, how about learning about the value of small tech biz to add vitality to Fairfax community with "Capacity Buiilding" for knowledge economy with SBIR virtual teaming ?

We could do the "Tech Innovators Family Circle" Afternoon Snack type event may be with a glass of Mango Lassi, Samosa and Tea may be ?

Where can we meet for such small group event ? Would Sardaji at the Bombay Cafe, next to the Fairfax Wal Mart Shopping Mall, across from K-Mart Fairfax would welcome us for such a small group event ?

Does anyone know personally Sardarji, the owner of this wonderful Indian Food Place in Fairfax ?

went to meetup.com event this morning at GMU, focusing on "Health and Medical IT".

Very interesting. Very well organized with thoughtful speakers and free refreshments afterward at the Mason Center, located next to the Performance Hall and near the Parking Garage at the GMU Main Campus.

The event was organized by J.P. Auffret, Ph.D. Director, M.S. Technology Management Program.

About 45 persons attended, met some thoughful innovators and entrepreneurs as well as an update on what's coming on health system stuff , both State of Virginia and Fed Govie stuff.

The next one I think will be again in a few months, in the meantime, am following up the people I met and had productive and enjoyable conversation this morning.

This meetup.com group has excellent synergy with the proposed Tech Innovators Family Circle (TIFC) and hope we can have a follow up meeting for Saturday Breakfast at a convenient location soon if there is enough entrepreneurs and innovators interested in such an event.

How about meeting at the Fairfax City Library one of the meeting rooms on second floor with some refreshments provided by a co-host for the TIFC event ?

Instead of Saturday morning we could do this on a week day also if preferred.
