Whatever ever happened to the Caboose Brewing Co microbrewery in Vienna? It was supposed to be opened this summer...did the town of Vienna throw enough roadblocks in its way that they just gave up?

After lengthy delays in the County permitting offices construction has resumed. Expect an opening in the Jan/Feb timeframe.

Thank God. You would have had an easier time with permits around here if you had been opening up a plutonium processing facility.

I hope the brewpub opens before developers tear the building down and construct an enclave of overpriced fake Craftsman-style homes

Don't know about Donald Chumley, but drove back by the site this afternoon, and it's just a mess. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but I really don't see how they'll ever get the place open, much less draw all the people they will need to keep it open.

How can a restaurant like Clarity in Vienna announce and have a mid Jan opening date meanwhile the Caboose has been putzing around for almost a year? They are pretty far down that road so they better have good beer to draw a crowd. yes, Vienna has no nightlife (Whole Foods is kind of it- not bad for an upscale supermarket but not exactly a real bar hangout type of place).

The site is a former restaurant (Wolftrap Deli), instead of the end unit of a deteriorating industrial strip mall The principals (Krinn and Maddens) are industry veterans, not a couple of rookie beer-drinking buddies who set out to open a place of their own.

Why all the hate for the owners of the admittedly slow-to-arrive Caboose Brewing?

No hate. It's a simple fact that Greer and McLaughlin have been playing from behind the 8-ball from the get-go. Krinn and Maddens know the ropes, have an easier task, and are making better progress. That's just the way it is.

As a novice who opened/closed a bar/restaurant in Vienna. The town does not make anything easy. Neither does the state concerning manufacturing, and selling on and off premise beer. ABC will be all over them as well as the town. That said, I am sure the brewery owners have learned from many mistakes, and will hopefully be successful. As for Clarity, I believe it will be a great new upscale restaurant.

"Easy" isn't really the object. The object is to be sure establishments can meet and conform to duly enacted laws and regulations concerning land and other resource use and of course public accommodation and safety. Doesn't sound like such a big deal actually.

Speaking of veterans, Tim Ma and Michael Amouri expect to have their new place along Church Street open by Spring. Not sure who's behind the new italian café that's going into the Jerry's Subs space, but they expect to be open by Spring as well. Expectations are not always met, but the odds are good that both of these will also beat CBC in getting the doors open.

My meth lab is up and running in Vienna. The permit process was a breeze!

I wouldn't think of trying to open up a microbrewery around here...too much heat...

They bill themselves as a "neighborhood" restaurant. They've been open full-scale for 7-8 weeks now. I've been twice so far. Food and service were both terrific the first time. Two weeks later, the food was 45 minutes in arriving and was cold when it got to the table. Repairs were made, but the server and manager were both too faux-gushy, falling down apologetic to do anything but make matter even worse. Chalk it up to a bad night. The place has plenty of potential. The menu for now at least is a bit on the limited side, but everything on it has been a hit so far.

A few weeks ago I tried Caboose Beer. It was good but there are other beers that I like better. Recently I tried the food and both the entree and appetizer were excellent. However, there were 2 dealbreakers.

1) Playing urban bass music is inappropriate and disrespectful especially when families with small children are eating there.

2) They went full retard on the desert menu. The only choices were porter beer flavored gelato and sweet potato donut holes. Again, this is disrespectful to the customer. Most people like chocolate, vanilla, lemon, pecan, etc.

I missed it, but it must have been a big day. Still, the reviews of the place to date don't seem to be all that great. And apparently the heavy Vienna Police presence has been a bit off-putting to some as well.
